Marketing update

A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear fellow traders and professionals, The arrival of the cooler season brings with it a time of labour and productivity. There have been plenty of works taking place around the Camberwell shopping precinct, with the aim to revitalise the area. The redevelopment of Camberwell Central, on the eastern side of Burke Rd, kick-started works this past year, with new stores Aldi and Officeworks joining the existing Woolworths and Target. Upgrades included improved access to the upper level and an extra lift. Last year, the Burke Avenue carpark also underwent an upgrade to improve access and safety for drivers and pedestrians. The carpark was reconfigured to allow for more efficient use of space, shaded seating areas were added, improved pedestrian connections (including zebra crossings) were introduced, and improved lighting, seating, landscaping and bicycle parking have beautified the area.

MARKETING SNAPSHOT It’s been a busy few months of competitions, designed to get people interested in the Camberwell shopping precinct. Throughout March and April we ran our annual Style Junction Autumn Lookbook competition where entrants could win a $1000 shopping spree in Camberwell. We asked entrants to tell us which ‘look’ from the Style Junction lookbook was their favourite for a chance to win. Extra entries went to those who spent more than $25 in any Camberwell fashion, beauty or accessories store and uploaded a copy of their receipt with their entry. The prize went to lucky winner Kate Franich.

Major works for this year include the redevelopment of The Well shopping centre, which is expected to improve the standard of the centre, upgrade existing stores and introduce new traders. Upgrades to the floor and ceiling commenced in May, and works to build a new dining precinct are underway behind hoarding. New stores will be introduced to the centre – cafe Rex Espresso and my bookstore Dymocks were the first new shop fit-outs, with more to open in the coming months. All traders in The Well will continue to operate as normal throughout the works period. There are no changes to trading hours and centre management is committed to keeping disruptions as minimal as possible. We’ll keep you posted with regular updates but I’m sure we can all agree these improvements will be of great benefit to the precinct. Regards,

Henk Kelly-Kobes President, Camberwell Centre Association

CAMBERWELL-BEING A SUCCESS On Saturday, May 26, we ran CamberWELL-BEING, our annual event that celebrates businesses that offer health and wellness products and services. We also invited relevant traders to work together to create events and promotions in their businesses that tie in with the health and wellness theme during May and June, which we have helped to promote through our marketing channels. Visitors took part in the ‘Wellness Trail’ where they collected a ‘Wellness Passport’ and made their way around the precinct to participating businesses to enjoy exclusive offers, free classes, food samples and consultations. Participants went in the draw to win from a huge pool of prizes donated by local health and wellness businesses (valued at more than $5000). This year was our second year running the event and it attracted significantly more participants, suggesting a growing interest in health and wellness among the Camberwell customer base.

THE WELL TO BECOME DINING HUB The Well shopping centre is undergoing a major upgrade and will soon be kitted out with a state-ofthe-art dining precinct featuring family-focused food and beverage options. The $18 million redevelopment has commenced, with planned works including new offerings and enhancements to the current centre amenity and façade. All traders will remain open throughout the redevelopment period and trading hours will not change. The redevelopment will inject new life into the shopping centre, with additional tenancies to the internal space, new food concept stores and an off-street laneway precinct (accessible via Burke Rd) all part of the plan. Stage one works have commenced and are expected to conclude by December 2018.

HAVE YOU SEEN THE CAMBERWELL CITIZEN? The first edition of The Camberwell Citizen, a new lifestyle newspaper, was recently released and distributed in Camberwell. The publication will be produced three times a year and covers a range of topics from food and fashion to business and culture, as well as interviews with key personalities in the local community. Advertising in The Camberwell Citizen is a great way to promote your brand or business to a highlytargeted local audience. Because of the exclusive, premium nature of the publication, there is a strong focus on editorial content and limited advertising space, allowing advertisers to cut through and truly connect with readers. Advertising is open to members of the Camberwell Traders’ Association – ad prices are subsidised for members, making it an affordable option for traders to reach a relevant local audience. To book an advertisement in the next edition, call James McInerney on 0400 927 193 or email citizen@assemblo.com
