FRUIT AND VEGGIE Beauty TREATMENTS By Irene Marshall

For centuries, people have been using fruits, vegetables, and other natural products to nourish their skin and hair. These include the typical products you might think of, such as avocados, honey, milk, eggs, cucumber, yogurt, oils, herbs, and bananas, as well as the stranger products, such as fish scales, ground insects, mule urine, and bird poop. People have tried just about every natural substance — animal, vegetable, and mineral — to improve their appearance. Unless you are allergic to something, you can’t go wrong trying it in a recipe, mashed up and applied as a therapeutic and cleansing face mask, hand softener, or hair conditioning treatment. Fruits and vegetables contain a unique blend of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial compounds that may help prevent damage or heal damaged tissues. Refreshing Cucumber Face Mask 1 small cucumber, peeled and seeded 1 tbs. raw honey Blend all ingredients on high speed and spread evenly over your face. Lie back and relax for 15 minutes, then rinse well with warm water. Honey Yogurt Face Mask 2 tbs. plain yogurt 2-3 strawberries or 5-6 raspberries 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar or lemon juice 1 tsp. raw honey Mash the ingredients together. Apply evenly over your face, taking care to avoid your eyes and sensitive under-eye area. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Banana Hair Mask 1 ripe banana Mash a ripe or overripe banana, leaving no lumps. Using your hands, work the gooey banana puree into your hair. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse well, wash, and condition as usual. n Source: Almanac.com
