2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170
The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is absolutely unbelievable. To think that you can walk into a dealership and buy a car that delivers 1,025 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 945 Ib.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm on E85 fuel and crosses the quartermile trap in an NHRA-certified 8.91 seconds at 151.17 mph...well, that is the stuff dreams are made of. Apparently Dodge wanted to prove that they are the biggest and the baddest and wanted to break records with a production car, and they have done it. A factory car that hits 60 mph in 1.66 seconds...think about that...1.66 seconds! This is indeed the fastest and most powerful muscle car ever produced. Period.
The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 series production volume will be limited to not more than 3,300 total units, and if you want to talk about collectability, this is a guaranteed collector car that will definitely go up in value...exponentially. Odds are, like the other hyper-rare supercars, the “market adjustment” for the SRT Demon 170 will be six figures. Like the Ford GT and certain Ferraris, Porsches, and Lamborghinis, my guess is you will have to be “someone” to get your hands on one or be ready to write a hefty check. It would be well worth it.
As we approach the end of the internal combustion engine, it appears that Dodge wanted to go out in full glory. Offering a vehicle so over the top that it is, as aforementioned, unbelievable. To get this much performance from the factory with a warranty is unfathomable. If you have ever built a race car or even restored a car, you know how much horsepower costs—this type of horsepower, reliable horsepower, from the factory. Well, to the Dodge team, you dreamed big, and you did it. Well done. And again, unbelievable! For more information, visit dodgegarage.com. n

Painting a Life Together: The Heartwarming Journey of Danielle and Jeremy Lipking
By Lori Berezin and Hayley Mattson
Photography by Dana Fineman and Jonathan Lipking
Twenty-two years ago, destiny brought Danielle and Jeremy Lipking together as Danielle, a radiant 22-year-old student, immersed herself in the world of painting under the watchful eye of her skilled 23-year-old teacher, Jeremy, at the California Institute of Art. As they grew closer, the two were delighted to find out that their childhoods were spent not far from each other, with Danielle attending Taft High School in Woodland Hills and Jeremy at Royal High School in Simi Valley. As their bond deepened, love blossomed, and they embarked on an enchanting journey side by side, weaving their own unique tale into the tapestry of art history.
For the initial 15 years of their marriage, Danielle and Jeremy made their home near her parents in Calabasas. Then, fortune smiled upon them as they found their dream house nestled within five enchanting acres in Agoura, just across from the esteemed Paramount Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains. "We're not traditional," Danielle gently explains. "What you see is what you get with us. At heart, we're just free-spirited souls who dance to our own rhythms."
Danielle lovingly supported Jeremy as he pursued his passion and gained recognition early in his career. She soon became his muse, inspiring him to make a name for himself in the local art community. The couple adored strolling along Santa Monica Boulevard, taking in the vibrant gallery scene. Encouraged by Danielle,

Jeremy decided to share some of his work with a gallery, which ultimately led to his first solo exhibition. To this day, Danielle remains instrumental in organizing Jeremy's shows and workshops, while also managing the bustling schedules of their five wonderful children: Skylar (19), Jacob (18), Sierra (9), and twins Juniper and Zion (6).
Inheriting the artistic flair from his father, the accomplished illustrator Ronald Lipking, Jeremy began to flourish creatively at a young age. Following his studies at the California Art Institute in Westlake Village, he cultivated his own distinctive style. Drawing inspiration from 19th-century portrait and naturalistic landscape painters, Jeremy weaved his dreamy, classical vision into both portraits and landscapes. He finds particular joy in painting outdoors and was initially captivated by the masterful works of Western artists like Frederic Remington and the talented members of the Taos Society of Artists.
"I've gently refined my painting style over the years," shares Jeremy. "I now dedicate more time to planning each piece. Instead of diving straight into painting, I ponder deeply on the narrative, crafting sketches and thumbnails before commencing each oil painting." His artwork graces the walls of diverse galleries like Arcadia Contemporary in New York City and Legacy Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has been showcased in numerous art exhibitions and magazines. You can also admire his work at his Agoura studio and online through his web store, Dark Creek Press.
"Over the years, we've somehow found a way to balance it all," reflects Danielle. "I keep a mental checklist that's always in motion. I've come to understand the importance of maintaining momentum, whether we're traveling abroad, exploring local trails, or visiting museums together." She adds with warmth, "There's something truly special about the sweet innocence of young children. With our kids ranging from 19 to our 6-year-old twins, it feels like we've raised two sets of children.”
52 Calabasas style continued on page 54
"Their story is a testament to the power of love, dedication, and mutual support in fostering a nurturing environment where both their relationship and their children can thrive.”
Danielle once pursued modeling and studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in downtown Los Angeles. It's evident that their children have inherited their parents' creative flair. Eldest daughter Skylar, an Agoura High graduate, expresses herself through painting and is attending Paul Mitchell cosmetology school. Their oldest son, Jacob, enjoys playing basketball and engaging with his Xbox and attends Agoura High. Sadly, the pandemic limited much of their in-person high school experience. Sierra, Juniper, and Zion attend the Mariposa School for Global Education in Agoura. The younger girls, Sierra and Juniper, delight in dancing and attend classes at the nearby RAD Dance Studio. They also have a passion for painting.
Danielle, the proud mother, observes, "All of our children possess that creative spark. They're wonderfully well-rounded and have diverse interests. They adore singing and dancing, exploring and learning. Our youngest son, Zion, is drawn to basketball, baseball, and climbing anything he can find. We're having a truly enjoyable time introducing them to a wide range of enriching activities and places.”
The Lipking family's adventures go beyond their daily life, encompassing extended trips to Europe, where Jeremy shares his artistic expertise by leading painting workshops. One particularly unforgettable family vacation brought them to the captivating lands of the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Italy. Each destination offered a wealth of inspiration, cultural experiences, and cherished memories for the entire family.
Back at home, Jeremy continues to share his passion for art by conducting workshops amidst the breathtaking scenery of their own backyard. Their family sanctuary, nestled in the heart of nature, provides an idyllic setting for artists to learn and create. The family's journey with their home has been one of transformation and resilience. They purchased the property just three months before the devastating Woolsey fire swept through the area.
Undeterred by the challenges, the family embarked on a mission to revitalize their home. With the help of talented interior decorator Laura Giuliani from House of G Designs, they've since remodeled the entire first level. The collaborative effort resulted in a warm, inviting, and beautifully curated space that truly reflects the family's spirit and love for art. Today,
their home feels just right—imbued with a sense of comfort, belonging, and inspiration.
Through their shared experiences, both at home and abroad, Danielle and Jeremy have fostered a deep appreciation for art, culture, and togetherness within their family. Their adventures continue to strengthen their bond and inspire them to keep exploring the world, creating unforgettable memories and embracing the beauty that life has to offer.
The family has lovingly created private trails from their vast backyard, leading all the way to Malibu State Park. When they're not exploring local hills or savoring meals at some of their favorite nearby eateries, like King's Fish House in Calabasas, this food-enthusiast family gathers fresh eggs from their own chickens and cultivates a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as scrumptious strawberries, carrots, onions, peppers, and asparagus. The children find joy in tending to the garden and playing in the backyard, where they swing on a tire beneath the cool shade of a towering oak. The family also cherishes backyard picnics and barbecues, frolicking with their dogs, including a black lab named Scout, several sheep, and a friendly chicken named Rosie. They're also fond of exploring the beaches of Western Malibu, where Jeremy can discover breathtaking cliffs to immortalize with his brush.
In today's world, it's truly heartwarming to encounter a couple like Danielle and Jeremy, who met when they were young and nurtured their bond, growing stronger over the years. They have beautifully mastered the art of building a loving family. From their first encounter more than two decades ago to raising their five precious children, the journey of the painter and his muse has been remarkable. To admire Jeremy's incredible artwork, including portraits of his wife and children, and to learn more about upcoming workshops, such as The High Sierra Workshop this June and the enchanting South African Painting Safari in August/September, visit lipking.com. n

POINT MUGU AIR SHOW USN & USAF JOIN FORCES
Written and photographed by Steve Geldman
After an eight-year hiatus, the 2023 Point Mugu Air Show took flight over a two-day public performance in March. Hosted by the Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC), it was only the third time both the USN Blue Angels and the USAF Thunderbirds Demonstration Squadrons have performed at the same event and the first time together at Point Mugu.
Watching our military piloting these Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets and Air Force F-16s—flying at low altitude and at speeds over 700 mph—easily raises the hair on your arms and brings a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. It’s a rush of excitement realizing how proud we can be of our armed forces. In celebrating the 50th anniversary of women in Navy flight, many pilots at the show were ladies, including aerial stuntwoman Vicky Benzing in her PT17 Stearman. As the Earth orbits the sun, it reaches a moment of celestial balance when day and night are nearly equal in length, marking the arrival of the summer equinox. This enchanting event falls on June 21 this year, and Calabasas is the perfect place to celebrate the start of summer and embrace the magic of the equinox. From outdoor activities to community gatherings, we've rounded up some of the best ways to revel in the summer equinox spirit this year.
Hike in the Santa Monica Mountains
There's no better way to welcome the sunny days of summer than by exploring the stunning trails of the Santa Monica Mountains. Hike to the summit of Calabasas Peak for panoramic views or take a leisurely walk through the winding paths of Malibu Creek State Park. Bask in the beauty of nature as the sun reaches its highest point in the sky on this special day.
Embracing the Magic of the Summer Equinox
Yoga and Meditation in the Park
Gather with like-minded individuals to salute the sun and find inner balance during a summer equinox yoga and meditation session. Many local yoga studios and instructors will host outdoor sessions in parks across Calabasas, welcoming everyone from beginners to experienced yogis. Join in the harmonious flow of movement, breath, and mindfulness to honor the equilibrium of the equinox.
Attend a Summer Solstice Festival
A solstice festival brings the community together to celebrate the change in seasons with live music, art, and local crafts. Keep an eye out for announcements about Calabasas summer solstice events, which typically feature food trucks, artisan markets, and fun activities for the whole family. This is a wonderful way to embrace the spirit of the season while supporting local businesses and artists.
Create a Summer Equinox Ritual
Craft your own summer equinox ritual by gathering with friends or family and reflecting on the past season. Light a bonfire or arrange candles in a circle to symbolize the sun, and take turns sharing what you're grateful for and setting intentions for the coming months. This meaningful ritual can help you connect with others and the natural world while focusing on personal growth and harmony.
Savor Seasonal Dishes
In celebration of the summer equinox, many local restaurants and cafes will offer special seasonal dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Take advantage of the bounty of the season by indulging in sun-ripened fruits, crisp vegetables, and refreshing drinks. Enjoying a meal made with care and intention is a beautiful way to pay tribute to the earth's abundance during this magical time. n

Supercar Sunday Porsche Marque
Written and photographed by Dustin Troyan
Supercar Sunday, as many of you know, is one of the longest-running and largest car shows in America—for that matter, possibly the world. Every Sunday for over 20 years, car enthusiasts have shared passion, friendship, and camaraderie. Everybody is welcome, and what you will find at the weekly car show is a tremendous sense of community and respect. It is an incredible event because of the people. The second Sunday of every month is Porsche Marque Day, where we feature all Porsche models, from early air-cooled cars to the current latest and greatest, electric, and of course, the Porsche super/hypercars. As Supercar Sunday is presented and sponsored by Porsche Woodland Hills, we always have new models on display, brand ambassadors, and experts to chat with. The general manager as well as the owner of Porsche Woodland Hills are at the event in their personal Porsches. There are always giveaways for the attendees and complimentary breakfast items.
We like to joke that at Supercar Sunday you never know what type of car is going to show up. This also applies to the Porsches. We get some of the rarest Porsches in Southern California showing up and often in multiples—from the 959s to the Carrera GTs, concours winning 356s, and even custom cars by Singer, RWB, Emory, and others. And of course, we have works in progress, barn-find Porsches, and even race cars that are trailered in. If you are a Porsche owner or enthusiast, this is a must-attend event. Mark your calendar, call your fellow Porsche-philes, and we will see you at the show! For more information, visit supercarsunday.com or contact Dustin@connectedmediagroup.com. n
Journaling for Mental Health: A Path to Self-Discovery and Healing
By Rosemary Warren
Journaling is a gentle, yet effective, tool for promoting mental health and personal growth. It creates a sanctuary for introspection, allowing you to explore your thoughts and emotions, which fosters self-awareness and emotional clarity. By documenting emotions, you can identify patterns and triggers, contributing to improved emotional regulation and mental well-being. Studies have also shown that expressive writing can help ease stress and anxiety. Organizing and articulating thoughts and feelings allows you to process and manage emotions, resulting in relief and mental clarity.
Through journaling, cognitive processing and problemsolving are enhanced by stimulating critical thinking and analysis. Recording problems and potential solutions encourages objective thinking, better decision-making, and decreased emotional turmoil. Additionally, keeping a journal lets you observe your personal growth, reinforcing a positive self-image and increasing self-esteem. Journaling serves as a way to acknowledge achievements and set future aspirations as well.
Journaling provides a versatile medium for self-expression, especially for those who may struggle with verbal communication. Experimenting with various writing styles and prompts can boost creativity and emotional intelligence.
To start, choose a medium that resonates with you, such as a physical notebook, a digital app, or a simple word document. Create a consistent routine by designating a specific time each day for journaling, whether it be mornings, evenings, or lunch breaks. Practice patience and bear in mind that journaling is a personal journey; allow yourself the flexibility to make mistakes, skip days, or adapt your writing style. Be kind to yourself and savor the process. If unsure where to begin, utilize prompts or questions to direct your writing. Topics may include gratitude, personal achievements, or self-reflection.
Journaling stands as a powerful means for cultivating mental health and personal growth. By facilitating selfexploration, stress reduction, cognitive processing, and creative self-expression, journaling can help you attain clarity, peace, and self-understanding. n

ALLURE MEDICAL AESTHETICS
By Elizabeth Hickcox
Summer brings sun, warmth, and longer days, but it also comes with its own set of challenges for maintaining healthy and hydrated skin. With increased heat and humidity, our skin is more prone to dryness, dehydration, and damage. But fear not! By following these essential tips, you can keep your skin looking fresh and radiant throughout the sun-drenched months.
Drink plenty of water
Proper hydration starts from within. Drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily will help maintain your body's hydration levels and ensure that your skin remains supple and moisturized. Consuming water-rich fruits and veggies like watermelon, cucumber, and oranges can further enhance your hydration.
Use a gentle cleanser
Switch to a milder, hydrating cleanser that removes impurities without stripping your skin's natural oils. Look for a formula that
Quench Your SKIN'S THIRST
Hydrating tips for radiant summer skin
is sulfate-free and contains moisturizing ingredients like glycerin, aloe, or hyaluronic acid. Avoid using harsh soaps or scrubs that can exacerbate dryness.
Moisturize daily
Apply a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer designed for your skin type immediately after cleansing to lock in moisture. Look for products containing hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides that help retain water in the skin. Don't forget to extend your moisturizing routine to your neck and décolletage as well.
Limit sun exposure
While enjoying the sun is one of the pleasures of summer, excessive exposure can lead to skin dehydration and premature aging. Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily, even on cloudy days. Reapply every two hours, and more frequently if you're swimming or sweating. Additionally, seek shade and wear protective clothing,
sunglasses, and wide-brimmed hats when outdoors.
Exfoliate with care
Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells, promoting smoother and more radiant skin. However, over-exfoliating can cause irritation and dryness. Limit exfoliation to once or twice a week and opt for gentle, hydrating scrubs or chemical exfoliants like AHAs or BHAs.
Refresh with facial mists
Keep a hydrating facial mist on hand to instantly refresh and revitalize your skin throughout the day. Look for mists containing soothing ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, or rosewater to calm and nourish your skin.
By adopting these simple yet effective strategies, you can ensure that your skin remains hydrated, healthy, and glowing all summer long. Remember, consistency is key, so make these tips a part of your daily routine and bask in the compliments that follow. n

Tell Me Your Tale Preserving Your Family’s Stories on Video
By Lori Berezin
Tell Me Your Tale in Moorpark captures a lifetime of family memories on video. Veteran television news reporter Jinah Kim founded the company in 2022 to help families create highquality legacy videos to showcase at milestone birthday parties, wedding anniversaries, and family reunions or to simply enjoy and pass down to future generations.
“We capture the life stories of grandparents, parents, and other loved ones by having one of our veteran interviewers question them on camera,” explains Jinah. “The family receives a downloadable video file to save on their computer and/or upload to a video-sharing service such as YouTube. They can also purchase a custom USB drive as a keepsake or gift.”
Jinah previously founded WorldWise Productions, a commercial and corporate video production company specializing in creating visually stunning, cinematic videos for major universities, public agencies, large companies, and organizations nationwide. Tell Me Your Tale grew out of that,
building upon Jinah’s extensive interviewing experience attained during her 30-year career in broadcast journalism. Current packages range from $1,500 to $5,500, depending on the number of hours of the video. The company provides a list of potential questions prior to each interview, which clients can discuss during the pre-interview session. They can also insert photos and videos and/or receive a printed transcript for an additional cost.
“We all think we have a lot of time left with our parents and grandparents,” says Jinah. “But for many of us, by the time we decide to preserve our family’s history, it may be too late to interview some of them.” Visit the website to view sample videos and see for yourself how Tell Me Your Tale creates a legacy of memories future generations can enjoy. n

STAY REFRESHED AND HYDRATED THIS SUMMER
By Rosemary Warren
As the warmth of the sun becomes noticeable and the days grow longer, a chilly, delicious drink can be the perfect way to stay refreshed. Flavored water offers a delightful means to remain hydrated during the balmy summer months while savoring a delightful beverage.
Here are some of our top picks for flavored waters that are ideal for summer:
Infused water
A favorite method for savoring flavored water is by infusing it with fruits, herbs, or vegetables. Feel free to mix and match various ingredients for distinctive taste pairings. Popular infused-water blends include lemon and cucumber, strawberry and basil, watermelon and mint, orange and blueberry, and pineapple and ginger.
Infused water is not only enjoyable, but it's also a healthful option for staying well-hydrated this summer.
Coconut water
For those seeking a natural and revitalizing drink, coconut water is a wonderful choice. Low in calories and rich in potassium, it's an excellent option for hydration. Additionally, coconut water is a good source of electrolytes, which help replenish fluids lost during physical activity, especially in the summer months.
Sparkling water
For a fizzy and invigorating take on flavored water, sparkling water is the way to go. Available in an assortment of flavors like lime, grapefruit, and lemon, sparkling water offers plenty of choices. You can also add fresh fruit or herbs to your sparkling water to create your
own bespoke flavor pairings, such as raspberry and rosemary or blackberry and lavender.
Tea
If you're in the mood for a warm, aromatic drink, tea is a fantastic option. Available in various flavors, including green tea, black tea, and herbal tea, there's something for everyone. Tea is also a good source of antioxidants, which can help protect your body from free radicals. For a cooler twist, consider making iced tea with your preferred flavor combinations.
Flavored water provides a delightful way to stay hydrated throughout the warm summer months while enjoying a tasty drink. Whether you fancy infused water, coconut water, sparkling water, or tea, there's a flavored-water option that's just right for you. n

Empowering Women
Unleashing the Power of Female Influence for a Brighter, More-Prosperous Future
By Hayley Mattson
Over the years, women's roles in society have beautifully evolved, and women have blossomed as influential agents of change in various aspects of life. It's been consistently proven that empowering women in communities is essential for fostering economic growth in both business and family settings.
Empowering women serves as a catalyst for economic growth. When women have access to resources and opportunities, they're more likely to invest in their families' health, education, and well-being. This investment creates a heartwarming ripple effect, with children growing up in loving environments where they can reach their full potential. The benefits of women's empowerment extend beyond the family, as increased participation of women in the workforce leads to higher economic growth and development on a national scale.
Female leaders have a remarkable impact on business and community development. As women increasingly
assume leadership positions in business, nonprofit, or educational settings, they bring unique perspectives and innovative solutions to the table. Female leaders can serve as inspiring role models for future generations, motivating young women to break through barriers and follow their dreams. Additionally, women-led businesses and organizations are more likely to prioritize social responsibility and sustainability, contributing further to the overall well-being of communities.
Women's influence in family financial management also directly affects economic growth. When women have a voice in financial decision-making, families tend to allocate resources more efficiently, investing in education, health, and other necessities. This strategic allocation of resources not only benefits individual families but also promotes economic growth at the community level.
Empowering women in communities is crucial for fostering economic growth in both business and family environments. By supporting and celebrating women's achievements, we can create a brighter, more-prosperous future for all. n

Discovering Love in the Midst of a Pandemic
THE MONTERO FAMILY
By Lori Berezin
Photography by Dana Fineman
————
Amidst so many tales of heartache caused by the pandemic, it’s truly refreshing to hear one about finding love. Hailing from Peru and Bolivia respectively, Leslie ValentinoMontero and her husband, Herman Hugo Montero, each traveled more than 4,000 miles from their childhood homes in South America to discover each other and build a family during the height of the pandemic in the San Fernando Valley.
Although the two first met as business acquaintances eight years ago, it took five years and a quarantine for their relationship to become something deeper. Hugo reached out to Leslie just before the pandemic and they started dating. “Our coffee date turned into a dinner date, and we joked that if our relationship could survive quarantining together, we stood a good chance of making it work.” Hugo eventually proposed to Leslie during his birthday party, which was secretly an engagement party, going down on one knee while family members from across the globe looked on via Zoom. They married on a yacht a few months later. “Due to pandemic restrictions, we were limited to merely six guests,” notes Hugo. “We still enjoyed every minute of it.” Who says you can’t find love during a pandemic?
The couple currently resides in Woodland Hills with their adorable toddler, Max, who loves the outdoors, his mini-electric car and playhouse, and taking art/sensory classes. That may sound like a lot for a tot under two, but his jam-packed schedule fits in perfectly with his parents' own hectic lives juggling business, family, and fun in sunny Southern California.
After attending San Martin University with a major in International Business Administration, Leslie worked as manager for a prominent personal injury law firm in the San Fernando Valley. After 12 years in development, operations, management, and brand marketing, Leslie now runs her own business consulting firm, Valentino corporation, and works with a personal injury law firm. She is also completing her Juris Doctorate degree at California’s Monterey College of Law.
“When I was 26 years old, my aunt was a victim of medical malpractice,” explains Leslie. “I spent the next year looking for answers and reading everything about traumatic brain injury. I gained a great deal of empathy for people facing emotional and legal problems, which reaffirmed my calling to practice law.”

THE MONTERO FAMILY
Hugo attended South Forsyth High School in Georgia. After graduation, he dove headfirst into the insurance business, eventually obtaining a securities license to expand his client base. Three years ago, he founded his own company, Herman Montero Insurance Agency, in Canoga Park. As CEO, Hugo helps local residents in the San Fernando Valley, Sherman Oaks, West Hills, and Woodland Hills discover their best options for auto, home, life, business, and health insurance; financial services; and more.
“We are very fortunate to know so many wonderful people through our membership in the West Valley-Warner Center Chamber of Commerce (WVWCCC), including our amazing Chamber CEO Diana Williams,” notes Leslie. “Hugo and I attend the food and wine events all the time to support the chamber and fantastic local restaurants.” Leslie also led the chamber’s lawyers’ networking group, bringing together attorneys in her penthouse office to share their expertise. She also gave an interview to the chamber’s Valley Biz Buzz podcast about pivoting in business and currently hosts her own YouTube channel, sharing insights from her journey as a businesswoman.
Amid busy schedules, the couple somehow manages to balance work and family life. “Our days are long and often end very late,” says Leslie. “Staying in the present and recognizing that you cannot go back in time is the foundation of everything we do. We know children grow up fast, so creating a strong bond at an early age is important to us. Starting a business years before we met was a blessing that allows us to have a lot of flexibility while raising our son. We strive for balance to create a healthy and happy body, mind, and soul in order to do our best personally and professionally. Growth is our motto, and variety brings a nice added spice to our lives.”
The family also travels together to recharge their batteries, frequently returning with great business ideas. One of their favorite trips was to Rouen, France. “It was like being in a fairytale,” recalls Hugo. “We really got lucky with the weather. It was perfect. The food was also magnificent and the infrastructure beautiful.”
Locally, these self-proclaimed foodies frequent the Calabasas Farmers Market. They recently dined at the hot, new Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse. They also love El Incomparable Peruvian Cuisine and Maggiano’s Little Italy, which quickly found its way into pasta-loving Hugo’s heart. Fortunately, he’s always played soccer and football and
done kickboxing with an emphasis on martial arts, which helps him work off any unwanted calories. Leslie relishes golf, tennis, and swimming. They both keep fit hiking nearby trails and climbing the Calabasas Stairs, 375 challenging steps in the Santa Monica Mountains below Calabasas. Leslie also practices artistic pursuits like oil painting and has been featured in juried art exhibitions. More than anything, Leslie and Hugo love spending time with their family.
“This area is simply a beautiful community boasting great restaurants and shops while still being familyoriented,” says Hugo. “It’s got plenty of parks for kids and less congestion than other parts of the city. We believe Woodland Hills could be the next Downtown L.A., just more family friendly.”
“We’re both really into fitness, food, family, work, art, and the outdoors,” shares Leslie. “Thanks to our child, we’re also inspired to make the world a better place and enjoy giving back to multiple charity organizations. We count our blessings that we were lucky enough to find each other after coming here on our own.” The community is truly fortunate as well. n

Ask the Pharmacist
First, I want to commend you for being proactive in seeking advice to protect yourself before traveling. Fifty to 75 percent of all travelers become ill while traveling outside of the United States. Most travelers do not seek advice before their trip and do not have upto-date immunizations, and very few carry an antibiotic with them for travelers’ diarrhea. So, by seeking advice, you are taking the first step to not have your vacation ruined by illness.
I would recommend visiting a travel health specialist who can do an assessment specific to where, when, and why you are traveling; what you will be doing when you get there; and whom you will be traveling with or visiting. The travel specialist reviews this information along with your medical history and makes recommendations for immunizations, prescription medications, over-thecounter medications, and other necessary products, including insect repellant, mosquito netting, and water purifiers. A certified travel pharmacist can furnish everything to you as well, including administering immunizations, such as those for Hepatitis A & B, typhoid, and yellow fever. A certified pharmacist can provide the medications needed to prevent malaria or altitude sickness without a physician’s prescription. The pharmacist can also make you aware of any travel alerts in your destination and may discuss travelers’ insurance. As you can see, there is a lot to consider when it comes to your health when you are traveling outside the United States. It is important to plan for unexpected events as much as possible. Doing so can help you get quality health care or avoid being stranded at a destination—so you can relax and enjoy international travel once again.

WALKING Outside
for a Holistic Well-Being Boost
By Elizabeth Hickcox
Optimal health can be achieved by incorporating regular exercise into our daily lives, and walking outside offers a delightful array of advantages. In today's fast-paced world, taking a leisurely outdoor stroll provides a gentle, accessible way to enhance our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Walking outdoors is a fantastic method to burn calories and maintain a healthy weight, potentially burning around 150 calories in a 30-minute walk, depending on speed and intensity. Consistently engaging in outdoor walks can contribute to lower blood pressure, reduced heart disease risk, and improved cardiovascular health, all while providing an enjoyable experience.
Outdoor walking, particularly on uneven surfaces, activates different muscle groups, refines balance and coordination, and helps preserve bone density, thus decreasing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Moreover, sunlight exposure during outdoor walks aids in vitamin D production and immune health, possibly enhancing natural killer cell activity, essential for defending against viruses and cancer cells.
Incorporating outdoor walking into your daily routine can be effortless and enjoyable for the entire family, including your
children. Start with a morning or evening stroll around your neighborhood or a nearby park to connect with nature and get your body moving. Encourage your kids to join you, making it a fun bonding experience while promoting a healthy lifestyle from a young age. Opt to walk to close destinations instead of driving, teaching your children the benefits of eco-friendly and health-conscious choices.
Strengthen your social bonds by joining a walking group or attending community walking events with your family, transforming exercise into a fun, collective experience. Involving your children in these activities can help them develop social skills, make new friends, and foster a sense of community. Finally, explore local trails and nature reserves together to experience diverse terrains and sceneries, keeping your walks captivating and revitalizing for everyone involved.
So, put on your walking shoes, gather your family, and step outside to let the beauty of the outdoors lead you all toward improved health and well-being. By involving your children in outdoor walking activities, you create opportunities for lasting memories, promote a love for nature, and lay the foundation for a healthy, active lifestyle that they can carry into adulthood. n

Prepping Your Kids for the School-Year End and Gearing Up for...
Summer!
By Rosemary Warren
As the school year comes to a close, it's essential to gently guide our children into the summer months, celebrating their accomplishments while preparing them for the adventures ahead. Here are some thoughtful tips to help your children embrace summer and make the most of it.
Begin by engaging your child in a heartfelt conversation about the school year, reminiscing about favorite memories, accomplishments, and areas for growth. Encourage them to embrace their journey, rejoice in their successes, and learn from their experiences. To provide a comforting sense of routine, create a harmonious summer schedule that includes a mix of structured activities, unstructured play, and downtime. This ensures a fulfilling summer experience while giving your child the opportunity to recharge. Consider enrolling your children in summer camps or classes that cater to their interests, such as sports, arts, or STEM. These activities keep them engaged, active, and learning throughout the summer months.
While it's important to relax, preparing for the upcoming school year is also crucial. Review assigned summer work, collaborate on it together, and discuss their goals for the next year to prevent last-minute stress by engaging your children in outdoor activities
and exercise, such as swimming, biking, or sports. This promotes a healthy, active lifestyle while ensuring they have fun.
Plan family outings and vacations to create cherished memories and strengthen family bonds. These experiences offer a welcome break from daily routines and encourage quality time together. Use the summer months to teach your children valuable life skills like cooking, budgeting, or basic home maintenance. These skills not only benefit them in the future but also keep their minds engaged and instill a sense of achievement. Help your children stay connected with school friends by organizing playdates, sleepovers, or group outings, promoting socialization and nurturing friendships outside of school. Encourage your children to take on age-appropriate responsibilities during the summer, such as assisting with chores or caring for a pet. This teaches them the importance of responsibility and contributes to their personal growth.
The transition from the academic year to summer vacation is an exhilarating time for both our children and us as parents. By following these gentle suggestions, you can support your children in embracing the opportunities summer brings while also preparing them for the challenges of the upcoming school year. n

Alocal coffee shop with a purpose, La La Land Kind Café is in the business of kindness as it now serves its coveted coffee, matcha, and tea drinks at The Commons at Calabasas. This cheerful coffee shop with a cult following is bringing kindness into the area with the brand’s third location in Los Angeles County. While La La Land Kind Café is quickly becoming THE go-to destination for coffee, it is also on a mission to bring kindness to every community it serves. “Kindness first, coffee second,” says Founder Francois Reihani, who founded La La Land Kind Café in 2019 as an organic
café with the goal of empowering foster youth who are aging out of the foster care system through employment and mentorship opportunities while normalizing kindness every day. The café offers the La La Program, an eight-week internship that provides paid, on-the-job customer-service training, mentorship, and assistance with job placement, housing, schooling, and therapy.
Customers are immediately drawn to the store’s clean and bright aesthetic and warm, friendly staff doling out kindness and compliments. Every customer is told, “We love you,” as they grab their drinks at the bar. The store also evokes a feeling of
nostalgia with its signature bright-yellow cups filled with colorful drinks in the brand’s new sippy-cup design, meant to remind you of your childhood. Local Calabasas customers enjoy “The Lucky Latte” (hot) and “La La Lucky Latte” (iced), available in both espresso or matcha and exclusively at the new Calabasas location. La La Land Kind Cafe is raising the standard of what we should all expect from businesses. They believe that a business can be kind, give back, care about the community, and serve high-quality products while still making a profit, and La La Land Kind Café proves that it can be done.

Spring Recipes
Simple Blueberry Basque Cheesecake
Instructions
Place rack in middle of oven. Preheat oven to 400° F. Grease 9-inch spring-form pan and line bottom with parchment paper. Gently roll puff pastry out on clean surface to 1/4 in. thickness. Press pastry inside pan and up sides of pan. It is OK if the pastry does not go all the way up the pan. Transfer to fridge and chill while you prepare batter.
In medium-sized mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese and sugar on medium speed, scraping down sides of bowl until very smooth and creamy, about 2 min. Add eggs, 1 at a time until fully incorporated. Scrape down sides of the bowl, then reduce mixer speed to medium-low. Add cream, vanilla, and salt, and beat until combined, about 30 sec. Sift flour into batter, then beat again to combine, about 30 sec. Pour batter into prepared pastry-lined pan. Gently sprinkle blueberries over batter. Gently fold corners of pastry over berries. Sprinkle top of cake with 1 to 2 tbsp. granulated sugar.
Bake for 55 to 65 min., until deeply golden brown on top and still very jiggly in center. Let cake cool 5 min., then unmold. Let cool completely. Slice into wedges and serve at room temperature or chilled.
Ingredients
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
2 (8 oz.) packages cream cheese, at room temperature
3/4 c. granulated sugar
3 large eggs, at room temperature
3/4 c. heavy cream
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
3 tbsp. all-purpose flour
2 c. fresh blueberries
Granulated sugar and confectioner's sugar, for dusting (optional)

CALABASAS HOSTS ARBOR DAY EVENT
The City of Calabasas hosted its annual Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, March 18. Each year, the City chooses a different school within the Las Virgines Municipal Unified School District to host the event. This year’s celebration took place at Lupin Hill Elementary School, located at 26210 Adamor Road in Calabasas. Parents, students, volunteers, Boys and Girls Scout troop members, Lupin Hill teachers and staff, and city officials joined together to beautify the school’s grounds by planting new trees, flowers, and plants, many of which were donated by The Tree City USA. The celebration was the City of Calabasas’s 24th Arbor Day event where kids and adults alike could learn about ways to preserve and protect the city’s natural environment. Lupin Hill Elementary School Principal Scott Foli was proud to welcome this year’s attendees and support the school’s initiative of enabling each student to realize their maximum potential.

GREEN UP YOUR Home
By Camilla Lewis
Indoor plants are truly treasured for their aesthetic appeal, air-purifying abilities, and the serene ambiance they create. With countless houseplant options to pick from, it can be a bit overwhelming to decide which ones to bring home and how to best nurture them.
The charming spider plant, or Chlorophytum comosum, is a popular choice for indoor gardens because of its excellent air-cleaning properties and easy-care nature. This plant flourishes in bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. Make sure to let the soil dry a bit between waterings to avoid root rot. Spider plants work wonders in removing indoor pollutants, making them an excellent addition to your home or workplace.
The eye-catching snake plant, or Sansevieria, is both resilient and visually appealing, boasting long, tall leaves with unique patterns. These sturdy plants can endure low light and drought, making them ideal for busy plant caretakers. Be mindful to water them infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out in between.
The adaptable pothos, or Epipremnum aureum, is a lovely houseplant with its heart-shaped leaves and trailing vines. It can be grown in hanging baskets or trained to climb a support. Pothos prefers bright, indirect light but is also able to withstand low light. Be cautious not to overwater and only do so when the top inch of soil feels dry.
The classic peace lily, or Spathiphyllum, is known for its elegant white blooms and air-purifying prowess. It thrives in low to medium light and appreciates consistently moist soil. Avoid overwatering, as this may cause root rot. Peace lilies are sensitive to chlorine, so it's best to use filtered or distilled water.
The hardy ZZ plant, or Zamioculcas zamiifolia, is a slow-growing houseplant that showcases glossy, deep green foliage. It can adapt to low light conditions and requires minimal watering. Ensure the soil dries out between waterings to prevent root rot.
By thoughtfully selecting the perfect plant for your space and providing the appropriate care, you can enjoy the benefits of beautiful indoor greenery for years to come. n

OUTDOORLiving

It's time to transform your outdoor space into a welcoming oasis where you can enjoy the warm days and mild evenings that come with living in our beautiful city. Here are some inspiring ideas to help you create a stunning patio space that truly embraces the Calabasas lifestyle.
Vibrant Plants and Decor
Introduce a touch of nature to your patio by adding vibrant plants and colorful flowers in decorative pots. Consider succulents, ferns, or ornamental grasses. Include eye-catching décor, such as whimsical wind chimes, garden statues, or patterned outdoor rugs for added visual interest.
Lighting for Ambience
Transform your patio into a summer haven by incorporating ambient lighting. String lights or lanterns along your fence or pergola for a warm, inviting glow. Solar-powered stake lights can illuminate walkways, while LED candles and tabletop torches provide a cozy atmosphere.
Summer-Ready Furniture
Stylish and comfortable furniture create a perfect summer retreat. Invest in weather-resistant seating, like a cozy outdoor sofa or vibrant Adirondack chairs. A dining table paired with colorful cushions creates a welcoming ambiance for family or social gatherings. Add a chic umbrella for shade on sunny days!
Fun and Games
Make your patio the ultimate entertainment hub with fun and games for all ages. Set up a portable fire pit for roasting marshmallows and sharing stories on cool summer nights. Designate a corner for popular outdoor games like cornhole, giant Jenga, or horseshoes. An outdoor projector and screen can create the perfect setting for movie nights under the stars.

Alfresco Living with Julia
Style Trends
by Julia Wong
As spring rolls around, bringing with it warmer weather and idyllic days, it’s time to prepare for the season of tan lines and California sun. Dusting off your home’s outdoor spaces can be a challenge whether it’s upkeep or
a complete revamp. The direction I take with my alfresco living is a blend of indoor and outdoor, the comforts of the inside of the home with the beauty and refreshment of the outside.
The starting point is extending the interior color palette to the exterior. I prefer neutrals with pops of vibrant color. Color palette isn’t the full extent though—I aim to bring all the comforts of the interior to the outdoors. Outdoor heating is a must for the brisk California nights that persist even until early summer. It doesn’t have to be in the form of bulky heat lamps; I want my heating fixtures to blend with the setting. Lighting is essential for the ambience of any area. In the backyard, I tend to stay away from bright flood lights, opting for a more moody, romantic
156 Calabasas style
feel. I find that this creates the most comfortable and congenial atmosphere. All these elements come together to create outdoor ‘rooms’ that transition seamlessly with the rest of the house.
Sculpture gardens and ornamental plants help create a backdrop for these alfresco rooms, while also minimizing the amount of natural grass that needs to be watered. Incorporating sculptures in garden designs can add a unique and artistic touch. Larger-scale sculptures create a focal point and catch the eye, while smaller pieces create detail and depth in areas of the garden that may be more sparse. There are many types of sculptures that can be used to enhance the design of your outdoor room, ranging from contemporary to abstract to classical styles. My favorite sculpture materials are marble and bronze for their timelessness and durability. The one pictured here is from a line of garden sculptures I’m developing now. Stay tuned!
Ornamental plants create subtle dividers between certain areas of the garden or can function simply as decoration, such as for framing fountains or fixtures. I love trees in decorative stone planters, particularly olive, orange, and lemon trees. They remind me of my travels to the Amalfi coast.
Fountains are a particular favorite of mine. They provide both visual and audio appeal, creating another layer of atmosphere in your outdoor scene. They can be less conspicuous when constructed of natural-hewn materials or take the spotlight with bright tiles and waterworks. Tiles are not limited to fountains either. We’re spoiled here in Southern California with the many types of tiles that can be used for outdoor applications, including ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone. In addition to aesthetic considerations, it’s equally important to take into account the durability and slip-resistance of the tiles to ensure they are suitable for outdoor use. The installation and maintenance requirements of tilework should be kept within what is comfortable and practical to maintain. You don’t want your walkway to crack the first time we have an earthquake!
When combining elements in garden design, consider the overall style and theme of the outdoor atmosphere. The most important thing is creating a space that is both beautiful and functional. Creating outdoor rooms in the garden using ornamental plants, sculptures, fountains, and tile can elevate the outdoor-living experience and transform the garden into a luxurious and effective space.

OPEN YOUR BIG DOORS TO DESIGN AT AGOURA SASH &DOOR
As the trend for larger windows and doors continues to grow, the size of vertical stiles and horizontal rails of their frames continue to shrink. Homeowners still long to let nature in, blurring the line even further between outdoors and in. Space-saving pocket doors that magically disappear upon opening make areas even more accessible and bright.
Bi-folding doors are also very much of a trend, providing wider entryways between rooms. And multi-sliding and bi-folding patio doors, which permit as much as 90 percent of the outside scenery to show, and outside space becomes blurred. The good news for homeowners and builders is that now you can choose from various manufacturers to meet your budget.
While current trends enable more light to stream in, darker materials, such as bronze and anodized aluminum, fiberglass, steel, and clad material, have become quite popular. The clever use of wall or remote openers to automate patio doors continues to expand, as does door size. Window manufacturers also offer more colors and custom options than ever before. From obscure-yet-elegant glass inlays to sleek, contemporary lines, front doors are becoming increasingly more stylish than in recent years.
Seeing is believing. Come visit one of the area's largest showrooms to view energy-efficient, fashion-forward doors and windows at Agoura Sash & Door in Westlake Village. n

INSPIRED CLOSETS
CREATES SPACE FOR EVERYTHING
Inspired Closets CEO Jim Delany discovered his passion for home design at a young age and found a creative home at Inspired Closets’ Warner Center showroom, where he and his staff help bring their clients’ dreams to life through custom organization solutions.
“One of the greatest things about the L.A. area is its architectural variety,” says Delany. “We love to match our designs to the style of a home, whether Mediterranean or Craftsman.” They do this and make it easy for clients to fall in love with their new closets by taking care of all the details from a free inhome or virtual consultation to a finished installation. They even transform garage cabinetry, pantries, laundry rooms, home offices, entryways, and entertainment centers to make each residence into the best that it can be.
The team also keeps up with the latest trends—from sliding garage doors to Murphy beds. Cabinetry with sliding doors enables customers to park their cars in the garage and still have plenty of room for shelving. The Murphy wall bed has also made a timely comeback.
With the continued popularity of remote work, the bed can help convert that extra bedroom into both an office and guest room. Customers complete the picture by combining the proper lighting with Inspired Closets’ custom home organization to create a welcoming ambiance any time of day. n

STONEWOOD KITCHEN AND BATH
By Jennifer Frost
Julie Holland, the owner and CEO of Stonewood Kitchen and Bath, has found passion and purpose in transforming interiors to improve the lives of her clients. With more than two decades of design and construction experience, Holland built upon her well-rounded expertise to establish her business 15 years ago in Northern California and subsequently opened her second location in Westlake Village in 2021. Holland grew up in the Westlake community, and her grandparents had a home on the lake. So, when choosing a location for her SoCal office, Holland gravitated to the Westlake Landing where some of fondest childhood memories are rooted.
The Stonewood team works with clients on all areas of their homes, however they specialize in kitchens and bathrooms. The conciergelevel design process commences with a complimentary consultation to discuss each client’s budget and goals. Then, measurements are taken, materials are selected, plans are developed, and project construction details are laid out. Along the way, Holland and her team meticulously oversee each detail from choosing paint and finishes for cabinetry to selecting tile, countertops, lighting, flooring, shower doors, and mirrors to, ultimately, overseeing the final installation. They strive for lasting beauty in cabinetry, offering multiple product lines to meet a range of budgets, with thousands of door styles, wood types, and finish combinations.
166 Calabasas style
Bringing Dream Designs to Life
“At Stonewood, we are visionaries working with clients to establish functionality in their homes,” says Holland, “and then elevate their rooms into spaces of beauty and comfort. We believe it’s vitally important to invest the time to get to know our clients well. This personal approach allows us to understand their needs for their home in order to transform their current space into a custom one created especially for their lifestyle.”
Stonewood creates aesthetically inspiring spaces by blending beauty with function. By layering textures, choosing colors that evoke joy and comfort, and adding natural elements, Holland keeps designs fresh and inspiring. “At our suggestion, many clients are selecting thin shaker-style doors with a
flat inside panel. Pairing light-stained, rift-sawn white oak wood elements with off-white cabinets offers a classic, soft look. We also love adding decorative wood beams to living rooms, kitchens, and even bathrooms. Reeded or fluted wood panels on walls, cabinets, doors, and the backs of islands also brings interest and texture to spaces.”
Stonewood Kitchen and Bath continues to garner prestigious awards from such organizations as the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) and Best of Houzz, the leading platform for home remodeling and design. They’ve also repeatedly won Reader’s Choice awards from Oakland Magazine, and Holland has been recently featured in LA Style Magazine in recognition for her leadership as an entrepreneur.
Holland and her team’s unique personal approach with each client is what sets them apart. Armed with details extracted from clients on how they desire to live in their space, Stonewood’s designs can change lives. When clients get back into their homes, the rooms are customized, more functional, and aesthetically inspiring. The partnership between Stonewood and clients creates homes where memories are made by elevating spaces that are used daily and transforming them to stylish rooms for gathering and enjoyment. n

Hardwood flooring continues to grow in popularity for a myriad of reasons—from its timeless beauty and durability to its allergy-friendly nature. “2023 shows a return to subtly warmer and richer tones with hints of a contemporary sensibility from materials to architectural and design finishes,” explains Francisco Mondet, director of sales. “Hardwood decking continues to dominate the high-end decking industry while wood cladding and live-edge slab lumber are especially popular for both exterior and interior appointments. Providing a dramatic and impactful design element, hardwood decking and wood cladding create both a durable and architecturally worthy effect.” Mondet and his knowledgeable staff take tremendous care in fusing each client’s personal style with the latest design trends to curate a genuinely bespoke look.
When clients carefully curate their homes with the perfect hardwood and softwood finishes, they set the tone for their entire lifestyle. Expert sales and design consultants in the Westlake Village showroom continue to provide clients from Agoura, Calabasas, Malibu, Moorpark, Oak Park, Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks, and Westlake Village with valueengineered solutions from energyefficient doors and windows to stunning European hardwood floors, decking, cladding, and custom mill works.
Conejo Hardwoods continues to cut the markups of other L.A. showrooms. In doing so, they can offer the finest hardwood flooring, decking, and frankly, all materials at a fraction of the cost. They also keep most products in stock, which enables quicker turnarounds without restocking fees if customers order too much product, which typically occurs on most building projects.

PTS FURNITURE CELEBRATES 42 YEARS IN THE COMMUNITY
By Lori Berezin
The team behind PTS Furniture in Thousand Oaks truly understands longevity. After founder Joe Paulucci retired, his daughter Kathy Paul, her husband Bob Paul, and Maureen Holm continued providing the finest medium and high-end furniture. Their salespeople always go the extra mile. They’ll even travel to a customer’s home or business to measure a space and gain a sense of their design to help them select the best pieces.
“Our family business is considered a one-stop shop for the home,” notes Kathy. “Our people have been with us for many years, and we don’t have much turnaround. Our salespeople are all very knowledgeable, and our delivery people always pay extra care and attention.”
Back in 1980, Joe Paulucci began selling pool tables out of a small space. The business evolved to include barstools, game tables, and eventually furniture for every room. “Our sales staff takes the time to find the right product for every customer depending on their needs, budget, and interest,” explains Bob. “We’re a family business, and our salespeople always make the customer feel comfortable. If we feel the product someone is looking at is not in their best interest, we steer them in another direction.”

PTS Furniture offers some of the most distinguished manufacturers of fine furniture in a variety of styles, from traditional, contemporary, and mission style to modern, transitional, and green/ecofriendly. Whether customers are looking for oldworld craftsmanship with a more traditional flair or modern, sleek, contemporary-style furniture, they’ll find plenty of options amidst the vast, twostory showroom. PTS even offers a range of durable, locally manufactured, eco-friendly pieces from companies such as Greenington, Ekornes, and Copeland, who take pride in leaving a small carbon footprint in their materials and manufacturing.
In case customers are unsure of their furniture style, the resourceful salespeople at PTS Furniture will help them decide. If customers are still on the fence, transitional may be the answer with its contemporary blend of both traditional and modern styles. This popular look utilizes lines that are less ornate than traditional, but not as sleek as contemporary. As a result, transitional furniture is classic, clean, and timeless. When mixed with minimal accessories, it imparts a simple-yetsophisticated look. Color palettes usually incorporate neutral and monochromatic shades, enhanced with pops of color in art and accents rather than upholstery and floors.
“Unlike contemporary furniture, transitional style focuses on comfort and practicality,” notes Maureen. “The scale of each piece of furniture is ample but not overwhelming. Fabrics are selected with a variety of characteristics, from durable to plush with tone-on-tone or small-scale graphics. A balanced mix of several textures is often used.”
PTS Furniture offers the highest-quality furniture brands around. They can guide discovery at the store, online, by phone, or by live chat. Customers can even book a personalized appointment with a PTS designer through their website. Whichever style customers choose, the helpful, knowledgeable staff at PTS Furniture ensures that they’ll seamlessly blend lifestyle and décor to create the ideal home or office to treasure for years to come.

dining and lounge options with plush cushions for designer comfort.
Family-owned Pacific Patio Furniture first opened its doors in 2013. Having celebrated its 10-year anniversary, it’s still growing strong. Outdoor living spaces are being utilized as additional spaces with people investing in their outdoor areas even more. “Living in Southern California, the weather allows for nearly year-round outdoor entertainment, with extended room outdoors,” notes owner Theresa Elkins. “We felt a need to serve our community and provide luxury outdoor furniture and accessories at competitive prices.”
The company continues to grow by seeking out the newest design trends. This year, maintenance-free furniture is gaining popularity, as seen in its timeless POLYWOOD ® Edge collection. As chic as it is classic, the exceptional craftsmanship boasts an uncompromised aesthetic, crisp angles, and clean lines—with no annual maintenance required. Paired with plush Sunbrella cushions, the set combines comfort with aesthetic appeal, as well as being maintenance free, durable, and sustainable. Another great low-maintenance option is the Seattle Collection, which features the rustic look of antique, grey-teak patio seating. Currently available in three frame finishes—rustic teak, salvaged lumber, and reclaimed barnwood—the frame is made of thickgauge aluminum that’s powder coated to look and feel like wood. You can easily clean the surface with a garden hose, soft cloth, and mild soapy water. If you’d prefer to “mix and match,” that’s fine, too. Pacific Patio believes there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to your backyard and will gladly customize the layout to fit your particular taste and budget.
“We enjoy spending time with our customers to better understand their needs,” shares Elkins. The desire for low-maintenance patio furniture, for example, arises frequently. Customers want their outdoor space to be a breeze. They’d rather spend less time on maintenance and
more time doing what they love, such as barbecues and lounging by the pool with family and friends. Fortunately, Pacific Patio offers plenty of styles that are both chic and easy to maintain.
Customer service remains a top priority at Pacific Patio. The onsite sales staff can help you discover your ideal look. First, decide whether you want a modern, transitional, or traditional style. Next, consider the size of your backyard. Then, think about frame color and fabric. When you’re ready to shop for the perfect outdoor furniture, visit Pacific Patio’s Agoura showroom for expert design services and a stress-free experience. n

Epoxy Power by BMI Provides Perfect One-Day Flooring Solutions With a 20-Year Warranty
Eco-friendly and affordable
Impact-resistant epoxy provides the perfect solution for long-lasting flooring that withstands the strain of heavy usage without showing signs of wear and tear. Epoxy Power’s highly trained and insured installers offer the highest-quality, eco-friendly epoxy materials while keeping prices down. Their flooring produces far less waste than alternative methods since no harsh cleaning chemicals are needed. They also use the next generation of epoxy that doesn’t flake and pollute the environment, creating a truly sustainable solution.
A variety of options
Epoxy Power offers a range of epoxy coatings from the most elegant, graveled coating, popular in homes and office buildings, to the strongest mortar. For heavily trafficked areas, self-dispersing epoxy coatings with
quartz offer great anti-slip features. Self-leveling epoxy creates a smooth surface, making it ideal for garages, homes, and offices. Devoid of hidden bumps or cracks, these surfaces also help alleviate accidents. Their smooth coating provides a more sanitary option, eliminating crevices where dirt and germs can hide.
Resurface pool decks
In Southern California, years of direct sunlight often cause pool decks to discolor and/or become brittle. Most contractors create pool decks from porous substrates with billions of tiny holes that water and mold can penetrate and destroy causing thousands of dollars in remodeling costs. Using the proper pool-deck coating helps deflect stains from food and rust, prolonging the life of wooden, concrete, and tile decks. Epoxy Power’s technicians revitalize pool areas by installing durable vinyl
flakes with a wide range of colors, textures, and chipping effects.
Enjoy a myriad of benefits
Easy-to-clean, sanitary, resistant-towater-and-stains epoxy coatings remain ideal for both residential and commercial uses. Family-owned and operated, Epoxy Power by BMI continues to provide Calabasas residents and beyond seamless service with a smile. Employing the latest technology, their experts supply flooring and refinishing services in a single day to customers throughout the Southland. With their current 20-year warranty, it simply makes sense to trust the professionals at Epoxy Power. n

POOLS THAT WITHSTAND THE TEST OF TIME
By Oz Tzalalihin Project Manager, Vitoli Builders
One of the ultimate focal points of a backyard landscape is the swimming pool. “As a project manager for Vitoli Builders, a leading construction company based in Calabasas, I have overseen numerous inground pool projects,” says Oz Tzalalihin. “Building or remodeling an inground pool can be an exciting and fulfilling project, but it also requires a significant investment of time, effort, and money. It is crucial to have a professional project manager and experienced construction team to ensure that the process runs smoothly and that the end result meets each client’s expectations.”
The process of building an inground pool can be divided into several phases. The first phase is the design phase, during which the client works with a pool designer to create a custom pool that meets their specific needs and preferences. This phase involves selecting the pool's shape, size, depth, and features, such as lighting, waterfalls, and spas. The designer also takes into account factors such as the site's topography, soil type, and drainage to ensure the pool is structurally sound.
Once the design is finalized, the construction phase begins. This phase involves excavation of the site, which can be a significant undertaking depending on the size and complexity of the pool. The pool's shell is then constructed using steel reinforcing bars and concrete. The plumbing, electrical, and filtration systems are
180 Calabasas style
installed, and the pool's interior finish is applied. Finally, decking, landscaping, and any additional features, such as a pool house or outdoor kitchen, are added.
Throughout the construction process, it is critical to have a professional project manager overseeing the project. Experienced project managers will work closely with the construction team to ensure that the project is on schedule and within budget and meets the client's specifications. They will also handle any issues that arise during the construction process, such as delays due to weather or unforeseen complications.
One of the most significant benefits of working with a professional project manager is that they can help you avoid costly mistakes. Building an inground pool is a complex process that involves many different elements, from excavation and plumbing to electrical and landscaping. Without proper coordination and oversight, mistakes can occur that can be expensive to fix. An experienced project manager will ensure that all aspects of the project are properly coordinated and executed, minimizing the risk of errors and delays.
Another advantage of working with a professional project manager is that they can help you save time and money. By overseeing the construction process, they can identify
areas where costs can be reduced without compromising the quality of the final product. They can also streamline the construction process, reducing the overall time required to complete the project.
Building an inground pool can be a rewarding project, but it is essential to work with a reputable construction company that has a proven track record of success and experience in the field. n
