Consignment is Always

ou usually don’t think of the words “consignment” and “luxury” in the same sentence. Not until you discover the high-end, resale/consignment shop HIGHKARAT in Westlake Village, where owner Angelika Kucsak offers deep discounts on an astonishing range of fashions, clothing, and jewelry at every price point from $50 to $100,000. You can find a breathtaking, beaded and sequined, circa 1983, Oscar de La Renta evening jacket or high-heeled, black suede, old leather, ‘Texas’ Jimmy Choo sandals that would make even Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw proud. You can also find designer clothing for under $100.

In a time when price is often an object, consignment stores provide a unique way to purchase previously out-of-reach items. They also give you a chance to trade in pieces you no longer love. Is there a Chanel suit in your closet that hasn’t had a night out in years? Why not trade it in for that vintage Prada purse you’ve had your eyes on? The past decade has seen continual growth in the consignment and resale markets. The expected annual growth rate of the online resale industry is, in fact, more than 16 percent. Angelika takes full advantage of this upsurge. HIGHKARAT maintains a continually revolving inventory with photos on the website and other ecommerce sites.

The entire consignment industry has undergone tremendous change over the past ten years. What was once considered the stepchild of fashion has grown up to be one of her best-dressed offspring. It is a business dependent upon forging solid relationships between consignor, in this case HIGHKARAT, and consignee, or seller.

Has that Gucci Jackie Python Las Vegas bag lost its appeal? Give HIGHKARAT a call for an appointment. Or perhaps you’re ready to sell or trade your classic, signed Tiffany & Co. or Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry. There’s probably a fashionista out there longing for those very pieces. Who wouldn’t rather pay substantially less than the original price? n

When asked what differentiates her business from the others, Angelika notes, “We are local and developed personal relationships with our customers. We can also offer to buy the items if time is a factor, because sometimes it takes longer for certain pieces to sell.” HIGHKARAT extends white-glove treatment to both buyers and sellers and will even appraise items in the comfort of your own home.
