CHAPTER TWO
A New Home Landscape
ORGANIC MODERN
The new outdoor living environment blends clean modern lines, minimalism and natural materials. Spaces and views have been artfully composed to create a variety of scales for the outdoor rooms. Views from the existing home and the new primary suite addition bring nature into focus for a seamless experience between indoors and outdoors.
CALMING VISTAS
| Thoughtful placement of vegetation and views through the windows, doors and corridors of the home bring sunlight and verdant focal points to increase calm, relaxed energy in the home.
TERRACING PATIOS
| Elevation changes from terrace and pool elements add interest and separation to the small spaces outdoors. Ample circulation and stair spaces at these elevation changes have been delivered for ease of movement.
Elements of Design:
Space, Color, Shape and Form
The main pool deck and covered lounge space is transformed by extending these areas at a flush elevation of the home. Shorter walls, thin profiled columns and ample step widths make the space feel larger. Warm tones with added green vegetation softens the space. The additional shade and form of the covered patio shape the space for ideal lounging for hours outdoors.
Soft, natural and organic materials brings a feeling of warmth to the minimal contemporary lines of the added shade structure and wide open terrace.
Elements of Design:
Line, Texture and Rhythm
Native Palms and layered tropical planting is curated for perfect views from the primary suite or the main living room of the home. Glimpses of the pool set amongst the plant material will create interesting water reflection. A private reading nook enjoys the sound of falling water, tucked in on the west end of the pool.
Materials and custom details in the backyard support a harmonious relationship between the interior and exterior of the home. The textures and tones of the new backyard are a union of the natural world and modern design elements.
The design tool of “reveal & conceal” has been employed, as the outdoor space is traversed moments of surprise are revealed. Layered tree and plant textures offer visual interest and shade.
GATHER & RELAX
Gathering to break bread, sharing a cocktail and stories or enjoying quality time with a book. Those moments and a vast array of others can unfold in the outdoor rooms created.
JACUZZI/SPA
Visible from the both the indoors and the covered terrace, the spa’s focal location and waterfall edge offer enjoyment to those in the water as well as those sitting nearby.

CHAPTER THREE
Living Environments
Cadence is a Landscape Architecture practice focused on connecting physical and social landscapes. Our projects span the realms of design, science, art and community. Our motivation stems from a shared desire to bring forward thinking design to our clients. We craft spaces and orchestrate experiences, our canvas is the outdoors. Cadence understands the human impact the built world has on nature, we seek to make that a positive one.
There is a rhythm in nature, in our lives, and in communication. We approach every project with our design process that honors an active cadence to move things forward. This measured approach ensures thoughtful research, analysis and careful regard to design detail is achieved in each solution we deliver.
ECOSYSTEMS OF YOUR HOME
NATIVE PLANTS
Native plants have evolved with other local species such as plants, fungi, insects, pollinators and even humans. Not only are native plants well-adapted to climate and soil conditions, they attract pollinators, provide shelter and food for wildlife, and connect humans to their local ecosystems.
WATER QUALITY
WILDLIFE + BIODIVERSITY
To attract wildlife, gardens need to be designed for habitat. By providing four basic elements: food, shelter, water and space, home landscapes can transform into a hub for biodiversity. This variety of life gives ecosystems their resiliency.
Excess fertilizers and pesticides pollute local waterways, watersheds, and aquifers. This in turn negatively impacts surrounding wildlife and aquatic ecosystems. We design with native vegetation and reduce lawn area to filter pollutants and protect nearby streams, wetlands, rivers, and oceans.
BALANCE AND BEAUTY
Texture, form, structure, function and rhythm are present in our native landscapes. We approach design as an extension of the indoors, a space to relax and enjoy, and most importantly a landscape to call home. We work with nature to maintain a balance and rhythm in your landscape.
