Dear Residents,

Thank you for perusing our summer 2022 program guide. The park district staff and board of commissioners are excited to provide you with these many opportunities to enjoy the summer in your parks. We are especially excited that, while there are still challenges related to the pandemic, the health trends in our community seem to be heading in the right direction, and we can continue to offer programs in a safe manner in conjunction with local, state and federal guidelines. We wish your family continued good health. Summer offers the opportunity to get outdoors and take part in activities and events for the entire family. I know you’ll find many things to do in this guide. Among the initiatives we are most proud of is bringing programs and activities to our neighborhood parks. You’ll find a wide range of activities, such as sports clinics, fitness classes, dance clinics, and more coming right to your neighborhood! We also invite you to visit the Bensenville Water Park & Splash Pad, White Pines Golf Club, and Fischer Farm. Upcoming special events include the annual Egg Hunt, Earth Day celebration, Summer Dayz at the parks, Live at White Pines concerts, a campout, and the summer wraps up with Harvest Days. SWIM LESSONS General Lesson Information

The Bensenville Park District swim lesson program consists of three types of lessons: Water Explorers, Preschool, and Bensenville Swim Schools Levels 1-4. All of our lessons are designed to build off the previous level to help swimmers gain confidence in the water and set them up with the skills needed to be lifelong swimmers. Swimmers who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper (not provided). Parents, siblings, and other visitors attending with participants are only permitted to use the facility during normal hours of operation and must purchase daily admission or have a valid aquatic membership. Parents can watch their children from the hill observation deck only. If weather conditions prohibit lessons from occurring, lessons will be rescheduled on Friday. In the event, additional adjustments need to be made, patrons will be notified by the park district. TL Facility and class updates will be posted on Rainout Line, call (630) 230-1028 or visit BvilleParks.org for information.

Tide Pool Water Explorers

Children and parents are introduced to the pool through a gently-structured water play. This program gives children a chance to explore the water through songs, splashing, and fun. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. This is not a water safety class or swim instruction, but a chance for children to become more acclimated to the water. Children must wear a swim diaper under their bathing suit if they aren’t toilet trained. Min 3. Program

Bensenville Swim School

The Bensenville Swim School is the evolution of typical multi-level swim programs. Instead of your typical 6-7 level swim school format, we have evolved ours so that swimmers can build upon specific skills, which allows them better develop their talents and abilities in just four levels. In the Bensenville Swim School our students are not expected to move up a level each session, but instead stay in one level and develop good stroke mechanics and endurance before moving up. On the first day, participants will be re-evaluated to ensure proper level placement. All levels are taught at a 1:6 instructor to student ratio. Once placed in a group, children will learn and develop skills with similar swimmers at their level. This will allow us to continue to develop the swimmers and not be confined by only the skills of one level.

Fischer Farm Earth Day at Fischer Farm Saturday, April 23 | 10:00A-12:00P See page 6 for details

Fischer Farm

Fischer Farm is one of the oldest remaining homesteads in the county. The Fischers settled here in 1836 and established a dairy farm. Their success was evident by 1919 when they had the beautiful foursquare farmhouse constructed. This homestead now forms the core of the Fischer Woods Preserve. This preserve is still home to remnant prairie and wetland and provides a glimpse of what the first settlers to the area saw. The land is valued both for these original seedbeds of native plants and for its historical integrity. The nine structures are all connected to the Fischer family and remain on their original foundations. The Bensenville Park District, in cooperation with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, has been working to preserve both the homestead and the native ecosystems while promoting education and recreational opportunities at the site.

New! Summer Survival

New! Owl Prowl

Do you have what it takes to survive? This class is all about making it out of the woods alive. We’ll cover everything you need to know about getting out into the wilderness and having a great time--from shelter set-up, water purification, and food preparation to fire building, packing the right gear, and more–in this four-week class. To cap off your learning experience, we’ll put the skills we’ve gained to the test with an overnight campout at Fischer Farm. Min 6 | Max 9. LS

Whoo goes there? Join us as we take a relaxing evening hike through the fields around Fischer Woods. We’ll learn all about these amazing nocturnal creatures, their habits, habitats, and maybe even spot an owl or two! Seeing owls is not guaranteed, but we’re sure to have a great time! Min 6 | Max 20. LS

Family Campfire

Join us as we explore Fischer Farm’s wetlands! We will see what kind of critters we can find and why they would want to live in these muddy messes. Exploration areas are dependent upon how weather impacts the wetlands. Min 6 | Max 20. LS

This adorable newborn baby sweater and hat set will be a gift that parents will cherish. For this course you must have a good knowledge of single and double crochet stitches. This project will require a little work each day, as the project has to move along to learn the next step each week. In this class you will be counting stitches and learning how to read a pattern. The project is small enough to accomplish or be close to finishing by the end of the course. A supply list will be given upon registration. Min 2 | Max 7. TG

This bobble tam hat will keep you warm and stylish. This is fun and easy if you already know your basic crochet stitches such as the chain and double crochet. Learn to crochet in the round and follow a pattern. The nice thing about tams, is that it doesn’t smash your hair down. Make one, and you will want another in a different color. A supply list will be given upon registration. Min 2 | Max 7. TG

Board Meetings & Community Organizations

Board Meetings

Meeting minutes are on the Park District website at BvilleParks.org.

Boys & Girls Athletic Association, BBAA

The Bensenville Boys & Girls Athletic Association (BBAA) is a local sports organization that provides athletic outlets for boys and girls, ages 5-14, of the Bensenville area. The BBAA is a separate entity from the Bensenville Park District and has a separate board and network of volunteers that governs them. For more information on their association, please contact the BBAA at 815-441-3121, info@bbaasports.org, or visit bbaasports.org.

Youth Crime Initiatives

The Bensenville Park District supports the Village of Bensenville, City of Wood Dale, Village of Addison and DuPage County Youth Crime Ordinances. We will continue to work cooperatively with all prevention and protection agencies regarding this matter.

We Welcome People with Disabilities

The Bensenville Park District complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and strongly supports inclusion. Inclusion looks at the needs, interests, and abilities of the individuals instead of focusing on their special needs. In partnership with our Special Recreation Association, NEDSRA, reasonable accommodations are provided to ensure successful participation in programs. When registering for a program, please inform our customer service staff if you, or a family member, require assistance related to the ADA. If you have any ADA related questions please call (630) 766-7015.
