activities, learning experiences, and social interactions by providing excellence in service, facilities, and programs throughout the Bensenville Park District. We enhance the quality of life through the preservation of our local history, open spaces and recreational opportunities for residents of all ages to enjoy.

Bensenville Park District Staff

Nancy Gibbs Commissioner

Our vision is for the Bensenville Park District to be an integral member of the cooperative inter-governmental group providing quality services and programming of high impact at low cost to the community. We embrace life-long learning in both recreation and leisure fostered through diverse and unique facilities. By maximizing alternative revenue sources, we are recognized for providing the highest level of services and facilities and consistently exceeding our residents’ expectations.

Administration

Dear Residents,

Recreation Programs & Facilities

The staff is preparing for the opening of the pool. No pool passes this year, only daily fees, but we’ll have a punch card available for residents that will offer a discount off the daily fees. Pool programs will look a little different and the operation will have rules in place for Covid-19 safety. We’ll have some special events too, so look out for these fun activities.

The time has come for us to come out and play, safely please. The park district will be moving forward with summer programming to the best of our ability. We’ll keep the safety of our children, adults and seniors a top priority. We’ll ask you to keep our staff’s safety a top priority. We’ll ask you to Wear masks, Watch your distance and continue to Wash your hands as much as possible. We’re counting on everyone to make the summer park activities safe.

The park district camp program will offer camps for different age groups with reduced group sizes. Activities will take on a new look that will ensure fun days but always keeping safety in mind. The staff has worked hard to provide a fun atmosphere and a camp that looks the same as in the past. Once again, we’ll have programs at Fischer Farm including a camp and family camp out. All camp programs will focus on outdoor activities with very limited indoor programming. Our Young at Heart program will offer our weekly get-togethers at the Deer Grove Leisure Center; some programs require pre-registration. We’ll offer senior trips to restaurants and other fun locations. Trip registration is limited by safe bus capacity and the state guidelines for group programs. We hope you are all excited about getting back to having fun in your parks. We, at the park district, have missed seeing you, missed working with you and missed planning fun things for you. PLEASE remember to be safe and be considerate of all around you. - Joseph C. Vallez, Executive Director

Tide Pool Water Explorers

Children and parents are introduced to the pool through gently structured water play. This program gives children a chance to explore the water through songs, splashing and playing. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. This is not a water safety class or swim instruction, but a chance for children to become more acclimated to the water. Children must wear a swim diaper under their bathing suit if they aren’t toilet trained. Min 3. (TL) Program

Jellyfish + Parent

Children and parents who are ready for the next step can enjoy the same experiences they know and love from our water exploration classes, this time with kickboards, noodles and water toys to encourage swimmers to use their imaginations as they learn basic swimming skills. Swimmers gain confidence in front and back floats, submerging their face to blow bubbles, arm movements and water kicks, while bonding with their parents. Bensenville Swim School

The Bensenville Swim School is the evolution of the typical multi-level swim programs. Instead of your typical 6-7 level swim school format, we have evolved ours so that swimmers can build upon specific skills which will allow to better develop their talents and abilities in just four levels. In The Bensenville Swim School our students are not expected to move up a level each session, but instead stay in one level and develop good stroke mechanics and endurance before moving up. On the first day, participants will be reevaluated to ensure proper level placement. All levels are taught at a 1:6 ratio instructor to students. Once your child is placed in a group, they will learn and develop skills with similar swimmers at their level. This will allow us to continue to develop the swimmers and not be confined by only the skills of one level. Min 3. (TL)

Fischer Farm

Fischer Farm

Fischer Farm is one of the oldest remaining homesteads in the county. The family settled here in 1836 and established a dairy farm. Their success was evident by 1919 when they had the beautiful foursquare farmhouse constructed. This homestead now forms the core of the Fischer Woods Preserve. This preserve is still home to remnant prairie and wetland and provides a glimpse of what the first settlers to the area saw. The land is valued both for these original seedbeds of native plants and for its historical integrity. The nine structures are all connected to the Fischer family and remain on their original foundations. The Bensenville Park District, in cooperation with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, has been working to preserve both the homestead and the native ecosystems while promoting education and recreational opportunities at the site.

Free Admission 16W680 Grand Avenue

Hours: Building closed until further notice due to Covid-19. Grounds are open from dawn til dusk.

School of Dance & Movement

Dance Information

To find the best classes to choose for your athlete, classes have been broken down to specific levels for the School of Dance and Movement. You can find these listed below. During this time we are making adjustments to help prevent the spread of disease. This includes but is not limited to keeping class sizes smaller, practicing hand washing before each class, and providing at home videos and/or exercises to help prepare students for their next classes. Pre Classes: Intended for the first time athlete to learn the very basics and be introduced to the class. These classes will introduce body awareness and work on motor skills as well as offer a learn through play approach. These classes range from 2-5 year olds, depending on the particular class. Level I Classes: Introducing students to the world of dance through classes with more structure and discipline. These classes will develop body awareness and placement. As well as the key points to making a routine and skills, students will learn to develop their individual passion for the sport. Level I classes are intended for 6-9 year olds. Level II Classes: As you move your way through the School of Dance and Movement, you will learn to master your skills as well as develop more challenging ones. Level II classes will be taught at a faster pace and students are expected to show discipline and enthusiasm for the sport they are continuing. Here you begin setting an example to other dancers moving up in the program. These classes are created for 10-14 year olds. Building Block Classes: These classes are made for all levels and intended for strengthening the core classes. You may take building block classes separately, or use them to challenge yourself even more. Created for the dancer who wants to take it a step further, you will find extra practice time and an opportunity to work on your individual skills.

Board Meetings & Community Organizations

Board Meetings

Park Board meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6:00P, except for June, July, and August when meetings are at 5:30P, at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. Residents are invited to attend and are welcome to make suggestions or constructive comments to improve the facilities, programs, and activities that are offered by the Park District. Meeting minutes are on the Park District website at BvilleParks.org.

Boys & Girls Athletic Association, BBAA

The Bensenville Boys & Girls Athletic Association (BBAA) is a local sports organization that provides athletic outlets for boys and girls, ages 5-14, of the Bensenville area. The BBAA is a separate entity from the Bensenville Park District and has a separate board and network of volunteers that governs them. For more information on their association, please contact the BBAA hotline at (630) 595-4797 or visit bbaasports.org.

Bensenville Community Public Library

Youth Crime Initiatives

The Bensenville Park District supports the Village of Bensenville, City of Wood Dale, Village of Addison and DuPage County Youth Crime Ordinances. We will continue to work cooperatively with all prevention and protection agencies regarding this matter.

We Welcome People with Disabilities

The Bensenville Park District complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and strongly supports inclusion. Inclusion looks at the needs, interests, and abilities of the individuals instead of focusing on their special needs. In partnership with our Special Recreation Association, NEDSRA, reasonable accommodations are provided to ensure successful participation in programs. When registering for a program, please inform our customer service staff if you, or a family member, require assistance related to the ADA. If you have any ADA related questions please call (630) 766-7015.
