Sale-Day Food and Refreshments Sponsored by:
Welcome everyone to our Homecoming Heifer and Mature Cow herd Dispersal Sale. It’s been an interesting spring/ summer with one of the wettest we have seen in years. While farming may have been tough most of the season our grass flourished, resulting in good conditions for the cattle. Our family has been in this area for more than 100 years raising livestock and cultivating the ground. We have been in the Hereford business since 1940 when my grandfather Sam purchased his first small herd and never looked back. The Hereford business is in our blood therefor we are retaining a few donor females while dispersing our mature cow herd.
In this sale you will find generations of breeding that have been selected and bred carefully to make it as a cow, as well in the show ring. As many of you know, we host an annual spring bull sale and multiple online female sales, the offspring of the females will be of that sale caliber. Females we believe should be functional, lay down have and raise that calf extremely well. All of our females are raised on large acres throughout the year and bred to withstand Oklahoma’s ever changing weather conditions. In this current cattle market, as many know, it is a cull happy place, yet we have always believed and practiced in not keeping problems for years. The freezers behind you will highlight those decisions as month in and out we fill these freezers with cattle that were bred for quality, but did not make the cut as replacement quality and now assist in feeding the community farm raised beef. So, buy with assurance of quality and a commitment from a place that’s been here now for six generations.
I want to start by thanking my wife, Nicole, who has been with me since 2005. We have seen trying days in losing lots of family in our early years of marriage, but through all of that we persevered through and are raising two beautiful little girls. There is nothing better than taking Everly and Adley checking cows and tagging babies. We see that early passion in them wanting to be involved and one day I’m sure leading a heifer in the ring. Nicole and I are grateful to have such great family to always help us: Lynda (GiGi), Uncle Seth, Aunt Tracy and Madelyn, Shelli (Menaw), Jon (Pop-Pop) and of course all the ones we are missing from grandparents, to aunts and uncles and my dad, Phil Wheeler.
It takes so much dedication to allow us to reach this point of having a sale of this magnitude. Each day we all are blessed to be able to work with each other for a common goal. Whether it be for the hay production or for some great cattle. All the hours we put in with each other it feels more and more that we are family and not co-workers. Joe Devine puts his all into these cattle every day. There is not one animal in this sale that Joe has not put his personal touch on from breeding to clipping them in the end. Joe knows each and every one and years of history on these cattle. Robert Pereda, from meeting him at the gym 15 years ago to now literally doing it all mechanicing, baling hay, and feeding cattle. Your friendship and effort to seeing the vision has meant the world to us. My brother Seth for always helping fix countless things, field prep, keeping a watchful eye on all the eastern properties and making sure no brush pile goes unlit. Jason and Lin Zwilling for all the veterinarian, embryo work and always taking an emergency call on the herd (Sunday’s at 5 o’clock are their favorite). We appreciate the work and friendship they have with everyone, especially my daughters. Everly truly looks forward to sitting chute side next to them at any given opportunity. Hanna Aviles, look no further than her for evidence of hard work and time well spent. Anyone taking home one with a halter today, she’s broke, washed, and everything in between. Finally, my laundry list of people that have helped what was a young, aspiring 22-year-old figure out a direction: Richard James, Tyler Montrose, Cody Nichols, Kevin Whitney, Ryan Henderson, Brendon Lowe, Benjamin Schmidt, Kim Murray, Jeromy Brown, Chris and Kristyn Allbriton, Michael and Kristin Miller, Ricky Moss, Gerald Terry and Dwight Taylor.
Thank you for choosing to be at our sale facility or bid online October 19. We hope you see the hard work and years of breeding all the prior have put into these cattle. As always, the beef served on sale day was raised and cooked in house by us with the help of LNC. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call Will, Joe or Matt.
