Bringing World Theatre to Buxton!
This summer brings a truly international line up of drama, entertainment and more!
Following a hugely successful season in New York and North America, the beautiful and spectacular production of TheVanishingElephant comes to the Opera House this June. Created by acclaimed Belfast based theatre company Cahoots NI, in association with Buxton Opera House, this is the first time the mammoth tale will tour to England. The production will be accompanied by a series of inspired workshops for local schools.
The award-winning Buxton International Festival is back this July with an eclectic mix of world class opera, classical music, jazz and literary events, followed by the return of the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival for a season of ever-popular operas and events.

In September musical theatre fans will be thrilled as the hugely successful BloodBrothersvisits Buxton Opera House, a production that has proved to be one of the most popular musicals of all time. It is also never too early to book for our famous family Christmas treat – Aladdin!
As always, we are very grateful to Arts Council England for supporting our creative activities for young people, local community engagement and full-scale productions including TheVanishingElephant.
To our audiences, we truly value your continued support, and our fantastic staff and volunteers look forward to welcoming you to our iconic venues soon.

BUXTON BUZZ COMEDY CLUB

More stand-up from some new and not-so-new faces on the comedy club circuit.
FRIDAY 9 MAY 8PM
Headliner, Clayton Jones has an observational comedy act which considers marriage, kids, being mixed race, text messages, school life, and growing up in London but now living in Lancashire! “StephenCookson delivered deadpan one-liners that were perfectly executed and written. The quality of this man’s gags is up there with Milton Jones and Gary Delaney” (Bryan Malcolm, The HaHa Club). Fran Garrity hails from Teesside and is a likeable and a very cheeky storyteller.
FRIDAY 6 JUNE 8PM
Headliner Tom Taylor has received high praise from audiences and critics alike: his unique brand of musical comedy is smart and silly in equal measure. Jacob Nussey unassumingly draws in audiences with his deadpan style: sharp jokes, ill-fated anecdotes, and clever punchlines. Kevin Dewsbury’s material ranges from storytelling, observations on daily life, and one-liners. He also has a great ability to mimic most accents.

FRIDAY 5 SEPTEMBER 8PM
Headliner Philip Simon is “adelightfullypolishedperformerwith a flair for observational humour” (Anthony J Brown, Stage Fright Comedy). Dom Hatton Woods is a rising star in comedy, excelling both on stage and online, known for creating engaging content for Bumble and Hooch. Lively stand-up Jimmy Shirley brings true tales of growing up on Merseyside, the absurdity of being a Scouser in Greece, and little everyday things that really annoy him.

TUESDAY 2 – SATURDAY 6 SEPTEMBER
Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences.
Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers. The production ran for more than 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only five musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’.
The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.
