Welcome to Buxton Opera House & Pavilion Arts Centre!

Another exciting season at our theatre in the hills is just around the corner and we are thrilled to welcome you back with a brand-new array of drama, music, and more.

Heading into autumn, there are some big stars joining us including Russell Kane, Dawn French and Carol Vorderman, as well as incredible performances from Imperial Classical Ballet and Anton Du Beke. We round off the year with our gigantic, family pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, which is not to be missed!

We are well into our second year as an Arts Council England funded organisation and have various upcoming projects, working with people of all ages throughout the local community. Our annual youth summer school returns this August, with Shrek the Musical JR., offering participants the opportunity to work alongside a professional creative team, concluding with two public performances. For those who enjoyed Hare and Tortoise last year, don’t miss this year’s production of Rumpelstiltskin, a brand-new spin on the classic tale.

Our recent, hugely successful production of Evita was made possible by Arts Council England funding, and we are thrilled to announce that we will be presenting another spectacular musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice in April 2025, Jesus Christ Superstar! Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for updates on auditions for local performers and ticket availability.

A big thank you to our ever-supportive audiences, for continuing to visit and enjoy your local Opera House. Your support ensures the future of our beautiful theatre and plenty more years of dazzling entertainment.

As an Arts Council funded organisation, we are supporting Arts Council England’s strategic aims to ensure that many more people will have access to a wider choice of exceptional art, culture and creative opportunities on their doorsteps.

At the heart of Derbyshire’s cultural scene, Buxton Opera House & Pavilion Arts Centre have utilised this funding to deliver a variety of projects and participatory opportunities to engage the diverse, local community. Take a look at some of the feedback received so far this year.

In collaboration with Buxton Civic Association, community promenade performance Leave No Trace encouraged audiences and participants to consider their relationship to local, outdoor spaces using poetry, movement, drama and visual arts.

What could possibly go wrong?

When Bella comes to Buxton, it all falls apart. So does her carrier bag, spilling all her dreams. Her boyfriend is a love rat and who the heck is Giselle? She has wandered into a Fairfield farce, but all is not what it seems. As “hidden” Buxton is revealed, Bella finds her sass, and together with her newfound friends, finds her one true love. The trouble is, it’s “The Other Woman”. Awkward!

One Night in Buxton is a funny, flirty, fresh new play about the place we live, based on local stories, told by our Bright Young Things. So, come with us on a journey, to your own hometown. It’s Buxton but not as you know it, a labyrinth of love. Who knows, you might even learn something, like “What is the myth of Chapel le Frith?” or, “Why there’s an x in Buxton?” (it’s the town’s secret kiss).
