During the spring 2025 season, we are thrilled to bring you three award-winning musicals, inside of an exciting and unforgettable programme of live events.
I have had the privilege of directing this production of Hairspray for 10 years and it has been playing to full houses throughout the UK ever since. Set in the swinging 1960s, the story, the energy and the songs are truly inspiring, making it one of the most successful musicals of all time. This new cast will raise the roof at the Opera House – YouCan’tStoptheBeat!
Following our celebrated community production of Evita, Buxton Opera House is excited to present Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s global sensation JesusChristSuperstar, performed on our stage for the very first time! The well-known score has been a triumph with every generation for over fifty years.
Originally nominated for a record breaking 14 Tony Awards, Stephen Sondheim’s fabulous musical comedy Company has recently been revived on Broadway. This thrilling musical begins with single Bobby’s 35th birthday party... in comes ‘company’ and some fascinating and alarming relationships are revealed! Sondheim’s other works include SweeneyTodd,ALittleNightMusic and WestSideStory.
Join us this spring for a musical feast!

All ticket prices include any taxes, levies and booking fees. Based on popularity of a performance and ticket availability, prices can change at any point during a show’s on-sale period. For the most up to date information please visit our website or call the Box Office on 01298 72190. A small number of seats on all levels have a restricted view. Due to the varying nature of our shows and their set design, we cannot always guarantee a completely unrestricted view from all seats. When attending an opera please note that surtitles may not be visible from some seats. Please speak to the Box Office for more information.
The Opera House Box Office opening hours may vary depending on performance times. Usual opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am – 6pm, Saturday 12pm-6pm and Sunday 4pm-8pm (when there is a performance). On days with a performance, Box Office will remain open half an hour after the event start time.
Buxton Cinema tickets can be purchased or collected from the cinema bar just before the start of the film. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased or collected in advance from the main Opera House Box Office up to an hour before the start of the film.
We are unable to refund the cost of the tickets unless a show is cancelled. Postage charges are non–refundable. We cannot exchange tickets or money for a different event. Where there is more than one performance of an event we can exchange tickets where available. This requires a minimum of 48 hours notice and there is £1.50 administration fee for exchanging tickets.
We offer optional refund protection at the point of sale through a company called Booking Protect. Please ask the Box Office for more details.
The management reserves the right to refuse admission and to request any ticket holder to leave our buildings at any time. Latecomers will only be admitted at a suitable point in the performance at the discretion of the management.
On many events we offer the following concessions: senior (60+), children (up to 15 years), student (full time education or NUS card holder), equal access (customers with access needs) and groups (8+).
Where available, we currently offer concessions for customers in receipt of Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment & Support Allowance, Personal Independence Payment and Disability Living Allowance. Proof of eligibility is required.
Where discounts are available, we offer a free companion ticket to anyone in receipt of a Carer’s Allowance or anyone accompanying an Access Card Holder with the +1 symbol. Other essential companions can still receive 50% discount on full price tickets for shows with discounts applied. All companion tickets are subject to availability and proof of eligibility is required.
Buxton Opera House is only partially accessible to wheelchair users. The level access entrance is 72cm at its narrowest point and the building cannot be accessed by motorised scooters. There are three wheelchair spaces in the stalls and an accessible toilet on ground level. If you will be
transferring from a wheelchair to theatre seating, please let us know when booking. The Stalls Bar does not have step-free access, but a member of staff will gladly bring refreshments to your seat. Although the Box Office does not have step-free access, there is wheelchair access to the Box Office side door on Water Street, where there is an intercom system.
The Pavilion Arts Centre has step-free access on the ground floor and accessible toilets, however the layout of the seating can change for certain shows, please check when booking.
For your safety, we advise that you bring a companion if you would have difficulty making your own way out of our buildings in an emergency.
We have passive infra–red (PIR) systems in both venues for customers with hearing impairments. Please reserve through the Box Office when you book your tickets. There is also an induction loop system at both Box Offices. On selected shows we offer Captioned, BSL Interpreted and Relaxed performances. Assistance dogs are welcome, please let us know if they are accompanying you.
We welcome children to the theatre and include a varied programme of children’s shows and events throughout the year. We have a number of booster seats available on first come first served basis.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups should have one adult per 10 children. Children and babies under three are welcome at family shows where a discounted price or ‘Babies Free’ is shown. For safety reasons the Upper Circle side seats and boxes in the Opera House are not suitable for families with children under 10 years old. The Pavilion Arts Centre seating is not suitable for children under three years old.
