As the 10th oldest community college in Kansas, it is an honor to serve the students of Butler, Greenwood, Chase, Marion and Morris counties, our Kansas Board of Regents-designated service area. Students from across the country and around the world also come to Butler, making us the second largest community college in the state.

Community colleges have a distinct mission to help students reach their educational goals in the most affordable way, and we pride ourselves on the quality of education available to every student who comes through our doors. Butler students save an average of $8,000 in tuition compared to students at Kansas four-year public institutions, with college scholarships, program support through industry partnerships and state scholarship funds able to reduce costs even more.

As a forward-thinking and innovative institution, we continue to create great value for Butler County students. One of the best examples of this is our 29% tuition discount for incounty residents. This focus on access and affordability helps keep local talent close to home while they gain industry-recognized credentials and degrees.

We believe in the hope a community college provides to help change students’ lives, and I am grateful to the people of Butler County for the support you show our Butler Grizzlies. As we welcome students back for another school year, your engagement as donors, sports fans, fine arts patrons and educational partners is truly appreciated.

It is a privilege to serve the communities of Butler County and its most important resource—its people. With teamwork and collaboration, Butler will be at the forefront for the people of Butler County for the next 100 years.

Sincerely,

Kelly

OUR MISSION

Butler Community College inspires and prepares students for lifetime success through inclusive, innovative, affordable, quality education while advancing community vitality.

BETA Rebrands as Career & Workforce Education

Butler Community College has changed the name of its business development and training arm, formerly known as Business Education and Training Analysis (BETA), to Career and Workforce Education.

The department will retain its focus on offering classes and apprenticeships to Butler students and members of the community, while continuing to work with businesses to offer important skills training to current and future employees.

El Dorado’s Valmont Industries, which sits just north of Butler’s El Dorado campus on Haverhill Road, recently had several of their employees take a course in Microsoft Office, and Augusta’s Global Parts, Inc. enrolled a few of their employees in a 6-week professional development course with the help of our Career and Workforce team.

The Career and Workforce Education team has access to hundreds of training opportunities both in-person and online, and works with third-party instructors across the country in fields as diverse as fiber optics and human resources to real estate, home inspection and welding.

“We tap into the experts,” said Assistant Director Jon Cressler, “to try to be a value-add for both the school and community.”

“This new name shows we’re a one-stop shop for everyone,” Director of Career and Workforce Education Michelle Ruder said. “’Career’ for individual professionals needing to upskill, and ‘Workforce’ for companies large and small who need customized training for their employees.”

Construction Symposium Introduces Grade Schoolers to the Trades

Earlier this year Butler partnered with Evergy, Wichita Area Builders Association, Professional Women Builders and Higgins Group to host the Trade Skill and Construction Symposium sponsored by Junior Achievement.

More than 120 sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students visited Butler’s Andover location, where they received a first-person introduction to masonry, home building and electrical work.
