Talking about her favorite style of attire,due to being born and raised in England, it goes hand in hand that she gravitates toward a classy, elegant, and confident attire.“You rarely find me in a standard black business suit. I enjoy a bit of an intrepid aesthetic and embrace it in my own attire.” She doesn’t shy away from eyecatching colors, but she also embraces timeless classics like a strand of pearls. Talking about her motto, it is taken from Guru Granth Sahib. She says, “Why blend in when you were born to stand out.”

Two factors have been equally vital to her success as a best-selling author, inventor, entrepreneur, and attorney. The first has been the support of her family.

Although no one else in her family is in the field of law, she has had enormous support from her family.

Even when she chose to focus her efforts on business and corporate law, which very few women choose to do, her family supported her decision every step of the way. The other factor has been confidence. She firmly believes that if you don’t believe in yourself, and you don’t project an aura of confidence with others, there is no way that others will have confidence in you.

It’s absolutely crucial that you believe in yourself, in your business, and in your capabilities if you want to become successful.

When she is not at work,like most entrepreneurs, she is virtually always at work. E

ver since the corona pandemic engulfed the entire planet, every sector has come to a halt including education sector. And the parents are the most affected because of this crisis.

Parents these days are facing two crises at home; their kids have very little to do post the closure of schools due to corona outbreak and their family takes too much time of their work-life. The routine has gone erratic, the playtime is zero and there is no alteration between home time and school time. In the absence of a support system, you are continuously involved with your kids together with office work and household work.

Before the pandemic, nuclear families didn’t have the habit of spending 24-hours with parents. The child would remain out for school and hobby classes for eight to 10 hours a day and the husband-wife used to work in separate jobs. In our kind of families, children are not accustomed to spending days at home in the absence of schools and friends. It’s a crisis for all.

This is why every house has become a school and every parent is a teacher as schools and colleges are shut across India. For millions of children in the country, the playtime and me time has got merged with school time and there is no borderline left between bed room and class room.

For students, uncertain times create more problems.

Elders know how to deal with such problems but children without school have completely gone off the track. Amid a lot of talk about online classes, the truth is that such classes are limited to a small number of schools and colleges.

Students are not allowed to go out, they don’t know what to study and get bored. Children are reading at 9.30 in the evening, getting up late, watching films – there is barely any regulation over an organized learning environment at home. First few days passed somehow but gradually with

the passing of several months, it has had a huge impact on their overall learning.

India’s learning predicament is enormous and this is going to have a huge influence on the overall education outcome.

India has about 300 million kids in over 1.4 million schools and 51,000 colleges. While almost 70% the schools are run by government bodies, it’s not the same case in the higher education space.

Some schools are doing few classes over video apps but the problem is that it’s not accessible to all. Apart from this, the rural schools and the parents are short of amenities as much as the schools. Children of the lowest strata of the society trapped in a livelihood challenge now have to deal with a stark vacuum despite the fact that government’s guidelines have ordered schools to go online and consider homework as class work to decrease disruption.

For women, the mission of keeping their children entertained during the pandemic goes on and on. Their children do not have much to do during this time. Schools have been closed for more than six months now. In such circumstances, it is difficult to form a routine. In order to make sure that students do not suffer much, the Delhi government has been looking at several ways in which their course can be designed.

To install digital classrooms in government schools for the upcoming year, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Delhi government has assigned a sum of ₹100 crore. However, with the pandemic these plans are supposed to be pushed. Going by the data of 2018, there were 1019 Delhi Government schools which enrolled 14.81 lakh students.

Apart from this, there are also 1719 un-aided schools and 208 aided schools consisting of 16.21 lakh and 1.55 lakh students correspondingly in the national capital.

Online classes are a huge requirement to reduce disturbance for senior school and college students. But we need to know if our educational institutions have the capacity to adopt it and teachers have the bandwidth to teach over video apps. However, for the last few months, we have seen that things have changed a lot. Students, teachers and parents have come together to acclimatize with the changing times.

They have come to terms with the online education or video conferencing done via several platforms.

Not everything is bad about this pandemic. Many people see positives in a long break. Corona virus has transformed life for us all including our school system and children. But it’s time to look at the positives. Yes, parents’ bed rooms have become kids’ classroom but we as professionals get time to spend enough hours with children. Now, we have got the opportunity to become the friends of our kids rather the best friends.

The idea behind starting this company has an interesting story. When Aswin initially joined college, he wanted to join a big MNC (Microsoft, Amazon etc). But then through

the first two years he learnt about corporate life and the IT sector, and he realized that he could be more helpful to the society not by working a 9-5 job, but by generating more employment and uplifting the people around him. During that time, he did not have any idea of what his company was going to do, but just that he wanted to start a company.

Stint with diverse range of companies helped understand customer’s needs

Before Aswin started Kuriyam, he had worked in multiple Software companies for almost four years. In those years, he worked for different types of companies, ranging from large scale corporate company to a budding deep tech startup.

Working in such a diverse range of companies helped him understand a customer’s need from different facets.

Right from the beginning of his college days as an Information Technology student at College of Engineering, Guindy, he was interested in Programming and Software development. He used to work with his seniors and friends, attending challenges and contests in and outside his college.

He started out with developing websites for college events, and this put him in touch with a few people who wanted him to build websites for them. There started his life as a freelancer.

Thereon, he worked with multiple clients from different sectors, and learnt different tools to satisfy the needs of each customer. His full time job didn’t stop him from pursuing his personal projects on the weekends. He tried and learnt different technologies other than the ones he uses in his job. At the same time, he took more responsibility at work.

He decided to quit because he knew that he had to work in a smaller company where he could be involved across the board. But many people questioned this decision and discouraged it. He believes in not being a know-it-all, but the willingness to learn new things and providing 100% to get the best output from whatever you learn. By virtue of this temperament, in a short span of time, he has learnt a lot of fruitful skills essential to run a corporate. So far, he has been quite successful in delivering quality projects and has tasted success in a short period.

successful, it is to show your customers that you are there to solve their problems, and you also know the right way to do it. “I would like my customers to have confidence that my company cannot just solve their software problems, but also can do it in such a way that it helps them in the long haul.

That will make them recommend me to others with pleasure.

So I feel it’s about taking the extra step and caring more about the customers’ product as if it’s your own”, he says.

As a leader of the organization, he involves himself to spend more time on deciding what path the company takes in the next year or so. He is also involved in the prioritization of tasks and leading the company to be more customer focused. Moreover, he also believes in encouraging creative thinking. “I try not to offer solutions myself and wait for the team to come up with the solutions. This approach has helped us cultivate a culture of mutual growth. I encourage the members to spend time to learn new technologies and come up with scenarios we can plug them in to improve our performance”, he says.

Besides his professional life, Aswin is a big time bibliophile in his personal life. In his leisure time, Aswin reads a lot of books, mostly on history and mythology. Apart from this, he follows cricket and football. He also loves to watch movies of different genres.

At PTC, they are assisting manufacturers make sense of the explosion of information around industrial internet, industry 4.0 and other M2M (Machine to Machine) business models. They are developing an ecosystem of partners who in turn can build solutions around IoT and AR. It will be a small but strong ecosystem, with a focus on value-based offerings rather than looking at volumes. They have launched most of their models on the cloud. More than 50 per cent of their revenues was from cloud-based subscription last year. PTC is now looking at establishing Centres of Excellence with IoT at the core.

Making positive impact They are looking to tie up with engineering colleges to locally generate skills as well as build on local hires. The talent pool is available here and the market potential is huge.

There have been many accomplishments that has touched him and has had made a positive impact in the lives of people.

A recent one is the skill development project that PTC has played a pivotal role in and executed through their partner Tata Technologies at Chandrapur. They are going through a difficult time with COVID and the team came up with a Robot to assist doctors in treating Covid 19 patients in the district of Chandrapur. The aim is to ensure minimum contact between medics and the patients. A very significant project that is helping the mankind during this difficult phase.

Being a leader of the organization, he brings about transformation by challenging status quo, by inspiring the team to action and by leading the team navigate the uncertainties arising from change. “In the context of business leadership, I believe revolution is more transformational and leaders mostly in Indian context are leading this change. Even in large organizations or conglomerates, the boards are looking at CEOs who can challenge the status quo and take the large company to next level or help it stay relevant with the changing times”, says Kalyan Sridhar. For him, decisions pertaining to employees and customers hold utmost importance.

All these years, he has remained curious, grounded and constantly evolving. This is what has helped him climb the ladder of success. When he is not at work, he loves to play Golf and spends time with family. Moreover, he is an avid reader.

He encourages creative thinking within his organization. “I believe creative thinking must be integral to everyday work amongst teams. Creativity isn’t just about coming up with beautiful designs, or wonderful ideas but solving everyday problems within the constraints in new ways”, he says. Hence as a leader he often challenges his team to think differently; come up with a better solution than what conventional wisdom would suggest. He lets them think and make decisions on risky projects. He tries to be a coach rather than a manager in the process of executing strategy.

Words of wisdom He has a piece of advice for someone going into a leadership role. He says, “First time leaders need to clear out subconscious biases that gets attached while being led, or being in a functional silo role”. To practice sound judgement without prejudices, which means looking at every point of view or from every different role’s shoes before making a decision. Leaders are tasked with making decisions and providing a vision that the followers execute as a team. More often than not this vision has never been written or there is no precedence. “Hence my advice for new leaders is to be connected with a wider world and constantly learn from outsiders; specialists in other fields because sometimes that may help to build a vision for your organization”, he adds further. The other advice he gives is to constantly challenge the status quo, as a leader that is your big task. A sense of perpetual optimism, be prudent in taking risks and proactively implement change or lead your team to try new things.

His philosophy has evolved over the years, and at the core of it he tries to be best version of himself every day and tries to inspire others. Recently a medical condition has made him more mindful of spending time with himself and loved ones.

“My advice would be that it’s very important to focus on oneself and one’s family. Health and personal relationships take one a very long way in life”, he concludes.

Now, they are taking a plunge to pursue higher education to shape their careers and life. Education has tremendously improved their standard of living and livelihood. Moreover, it has escalated the graph of their confidence to the next level.

Being an incredible manager, they are balancing their personal and professional lives quite well. Without anyone’s backing, they are achieving and chasing their dreams with determination, grit, and resilience. In the world of business, females have rendered a plausible contribution; with their creativity and fantastic empowering skills, they are doing great justice to different roles they are in. Let’s see how women are shaping the world of entrepreneurship and become its evolving face. With the upsurge of startups, there is a multitude of female entrepreneurs who are utilizing the opportunities and making big by incubating small businesses. Consequently, they are creating more jobs, increasing exports, opening portals to creativity and innovation. According to the analytics and statistics, women are starting their organizations at a much higher rate than men. The percentage of women’s participation is increasing by 45 percent from 2007 to 2016.

Family Legacy Entrepreneurs: Women in this category have inherited their business from their ancestors and want to further provide employment to their family members.

These entrepreneurs are mostly Asian and Hispanic women who love to take care of their family members and more likely to be married.

Passionistas: are the women who thrive after what they love and make their profession out of it. They hardly care for business growth, profits, etc. but their main goal is to support their lifestyles. They are family-oriented individuals, which is why there is always a conflict between family and work. They establish their business to achieve a better work-life balance.

Lemonaders: incepted their business out of financial crisis or we can say when they were unemployed or underemployed. Entrepreneurship is the only option left for them for living. Some of the companies see incredible expansion in their business. These entrepreneurs are mostly African- American women and younger than other female business owners.

Motives behind entrepreneurship: Women entrepreneurs give a plethora of reasons to embark on the journey of entrepreneurship. One of them is to make an impact in the society through their work or business, contrasting to men (43 percent to 33 percent).

Other pertinent reasons are being their own boss (69 percent), flexible working hours (60 percent) and in charge of their own destiny (58 percent).

Self-perception and behavior:

The study tells the thinking patterns of female entrepreneurs and their behavior. It has been observed that women are more likely to have sleep troubles over business matters than men (71 percent versus 61 percent). The concerns

include how to increase the profits and revenue, keeping an edge with the peers, and coping with other monetary issues. Due to greater family responsibilities, Family Legacy Entrepreneurs struggle with more business concerns.

Consequently, women launching their business are more likely to take initial steps than men, which include setting business goals and consulting financial advisors. Women who are identified as Dreamers and Doers take more preparatory steps than others. African and American women fall in the category of consulting most to the professional financial advisors.

Investment Patterns

Before taking any decision related to investments, women tend to think a lot and reconsider it multiple times before giving a green flag. Because women are not generally more risk-takers than men, they are more

likely to render priority to business goals, take guidance whilst making business decisions. According to the analysis, female entrepreneurs revise their financial strategies or plan regularly. A multitude of these dynamic women are supporting their families, so financial planning becomes imperative and helps them to create an alignment between their personal goals and business objectives.

To gather more success in terms of entrepreneurship, these ladies need to take professional help at each stage of planning and execution. To build sustainable and flourishing empire, synchronizing with the latest trends in the market also becomes important.

Shedding light on the factors that have helped Lamia get to where she is today, it is clear that her upbringing and education played a huge role. They are what gave her the base and work ethic which provided her with the right exposure to exciting opportunities. However, those factors can only get you so far; what pushed her was the determination to never settle for a certain level of success. “It is dangerous to believe that you have reached the height of success and then stop. You have to fight against the temptation to stop pursuing more endeavors. That is a trait that I have been nurturing myself throughout my journey. Everyone I meet teaches me something new and it is my team that enables my visions to materialize,” she says.

It is the zeal to constantly innovate and create that drives an entrepreneur; the drive to not settle for doing the same thing every day without working to perfect it and achieve something more. It is this attitude is that prompted Lamia to start her own business.

Giving us a look at some of her success habits, she includes: waking up early, listening to good music, reading a lot, walking, good conversations with interesting people, and having a spiritual side that helps you find your purpose and continue to grow.

Apart from her drive to succeed, there are certain milestones that really transformed her company as well.

This allowed her to really set her sights on the vision and goals of the company.

The firm believes in encouraging creative ideas within the organization. To this end, Lamia is always willing to listen to the team’s ideas and opinions and she is willing to adjust and change things based on the feedback she gets. Continuity and agility are achieved by staying young and relevant so she always encourages the younger team to give their input.

We live in a traditional society that places huge social burdens on women and, especially, in the case of a working mother. “Achieving the balance between work and personal life is the most difficult task that a woman can have. Due to this, women have developed the great skill of multitasking. The key to achieving this balance is good time management and acknowledging that the family does come first,” she says. These are the principles that Lamia lives by as a working mother.

Whenever she faces a challenge, she looks to other leaders for advice and encouragement. She looks at what great leaders have done before her and it inspires her to face whatever difficulty she is in. When she was younger, Lamia tell us that she had wanted to become an actress because she found character study fascinating. She would enjoy reading the scripts and creating and analyzing different personas. “This passion has also helped me in my career to read people in order to profile and campaign for them efficiently. I also wanted to be a writer so both these passions greatly influenced me in my PR career,” she expresses.

As a closing to our interview, Lamia shares a valuable piece of advice with us: “You are not in competition with anyone. Being successful, glamorous, and rich is all people see when they look at a famous person but there is so much going on behind the scenes for people to achieve success. There is so much effort, pain, and time invested into achieving great things. So do not compare yourself to others, but rather, find your own purpose and continue to challenge yourself until you achieve it.”
