Mr. Thompson views the more-than-100,000 vacation cabins being built in the United States every year as a natural and highly profitable market for the lumber and building materials dealer and for component construction because, he points out, "the great majority of such building is self-help and most contractors and home builders are not competing for this type of market."

TWX: Von Nuys 7576 revealing construction details, the cabin becomes a practical means of demonstrating graphically what can be done on a much larger scale in any type of home or commercial building.

Principles being the same, Mr. Thompson points out, the basics of component construction can be applied just as economically to any building, whether it be a garage, a standard-plan cottage, a luxury custom-built home, or a commercial structure.

"As the building material dealers'profits are squeezed against the rising costs of doing business," Chairman Thompson stated, "merchandising of Lu-Re-Co homes becomes one of his most important jobs, and more and more retail lumber dealers are adopting the practical and highly economic principles of component construction."

Circulor Mill Redesign

Four Baldwin SR-4 strain measuring systems are being applied to the problem of redesigning circular sawmills so that these mills will produce more usable lumber and lower quantities of such-by-products as sawdust, slabwood and chips. The measuring systems were built by the Electronics and Instrumentation Division, Waltham, Mass., of BaldwinLirna-Harnilton Corp.

Inquiries concerning instruments for making measurements at the sawmill should be addressed to Electronics and Instrumentation Division, Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Corp., Waltham, Mass.
