A new mode of construction attracted attention at the San Francisco Art Show in North Beach this Fall. The religious exhibit was housed in a tank house developed by the George Windeler Co., Ltd., of San Francisco. The original concept by Sales Manager Art Wall was developed by architects Evelyn and George Kosmak to simulate a large Redwood drum with twin doors.
As seen at the Art Show, it was 24 ft. in diameter with floors of 3 inch Redwood. The walls were 12 ft. high of 2-inch tongue and groove set upright as in regular tank construction with 2 doors, each 3 ft. wide separated by 3 ft. of wall to accommodate "in" and "out" traffic. The deck was of 2"x3" Redurood set on edge with a marquee above. In the model exhibited, a transparent plastic sheet was stretched over the top and drawn down at the sides to simulate a drumhead. In actual use, this could be a conical wood roof, or a design indicated by the archit:ect.
The George Windeler Co., Ltd. has also pioneered a large Redwood tank to be used as a swimming pool. This tank house carries through the multiple circular modular construction theme. Single units could be used with other conventional construction for pleasing arrangements.
