Come November 22nd, the entire lumber and building products industry will focus on Chicago, where the fifth innual Building Products Exposition of the National Retail Lumber Dealers Association will open its four-day show in International Amphitheatre. Exhibits highlighting the modern materials, technology, and methods avxiJable to today's homeowner and builder through his local lumber and building materials dealer will attract thousands of dealers from coast to coast, plus a large attendance among dealer personnel and related industry and professional interests'

,r Some 200 exhibitors representing more than sixty categories of products and services in the building materials ,,and allied fields are expected to occupy every booth in the :1i12,000-square-foot D6novan Hall, -where -the NRLDA ' show will be housed. An impressive roster of products and services will be "on stager' when the curtain rises at 10:00 o'clock on Satur- ' day mo-rning, November 22, on the 1958 NRLDA Exposition. Spectatular exhibits will cover nearly every phase' of building material dealer operation. More than ever, exhibitors have taken advantage of this opportunity to in.troduce new products, equipment, and services to building materials dealers at the only national show presented in their special interests.

Previewing a few of the important "firsts" to be featured, it is immediately apparent that great strides are being made in materials and methods tailored to today's home building and modernization needs. Dealer merchandising aids and effective point-of-sale displays are an integral part of most exhibits in the 1958 NRLDA Exposition.

Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Company will intrgduce a new patio and residential roofing in its popular "Diamond Rib" pattern which it will display along with recently developed Kaiser Shadescreens, diamond pattern translucent panels and embossed coiled flashing.

Picture windows featured as easily installed building components will be a new development shown in R.O.W. Sales Company's presentation of wood double-hung frames with improved Lif-T-Lox Balance.

' Another important area of structural components will be represented in the exhibit of Timber Engineering Company, where dealers will get a first-hand introduttion to new TECO Du-Al-Clip fiaming anchors and improved design TECO joist hangers, along with new merchandising aids, information, and displays on standard TECO products and truss designs.

Paneling for remodeling or new construction is another featured component at the 1958 NRLDA show. New "4Square LOC-WALL" paneling designed for beauty, economy, and easy application, will be one of Weyerhaeuser's' featured new products, along with "Nu-Loc" fir finish siding and boards of end- and edge-glued selected lumber and available in dealer-specified sizes.

Plywall Products Company will introduce to lumber dealers its five brand new finishes in oak and cherry prefinished wood grain patterns and colors on interior plywood, displayed along with its other standard patterns and finishes.

A new pre-finished V-plank panel in natural birch will be presented for the first time at the NRLDA Exposition by the United States Plywood Corp. Called "Charter . Birch," the finish meets or exceeds government specifications for resistance to most household "hazards," 'says its manufacturer. U.S. Plywood will also show a new 5-way .merchandising display unit for "Weldwood" finishes.

With ten species of wood dramatized in forty different ways, Western Pine Association will show dealers at the NRLDA Exposition how color can be used to sell more lumber for residential or commercial building and re- modeling.

"Retail Lumber, Inc., U.S.A.," the 6nal breakfast session of the 1958 NRLDA Build,ing Products Exposition in Chicago, will be arranged to simulate a board of directors meeting for all lumber dealers with an,authoritative preview for 1959 in the building materials business. Individual ",board members" will include Thomas J. Fox of John W. Fisher Lumber Co., Santa Monica, Calif. They will ply their "executive veep" with searching questions on how their operations, in widely diverse localities and community types, can adapt the forecast to their profit planning for 1959. Set for Tuesday morning, November 25, closing day of the four-day meeting and Exposition, the session will be held in the headquarters Conrad Hilton hotel. Donald J. Moe, secretary-manager of Michigan Retail Lumber Dealers Association, is assisting with planning and coordinating the forecast program.

E. L. Bruce Company will set out to prove to Exposition visitors how beautiful floors can be made germ-proof as well as resistant to wear. An exclusive new copyrighted ingredient called Corobex added to the company's polish is said to give it germ-fighting properties that remain potent during the life of the wax.

In the plastic coverings field, Visking Company's NRLDA exhibit will show how areas under construction may be enclosed with transparent "Visqueen" film to proteci passers-by as well as workers, and speed up construction in bad weather.

In the field of lumber dealer equipment, many new developments in materials handling will be exhibited in the manufacturers' booths as well as demonstrated in action programs each d"y. New hydraulic 9r-an9 -equjpmel! hounted on road trucks to speed on-the-job deliveries will be introduced by road truck exhibitors along with a newly designed truck bed that can be lowered to the ground and raised to dock level.

Among power tool equipment to be demonstrated to lumber dealJrs for the first time at the NRLDA Expopition will be a completely new concept in radial arm machine design in AMF -DeWalt's new "Imperial" cutting machine. The equipment is designed to permit improved custom- cutting by the lumber dealer at lower cost, says its manufacturer. - Wallboards in many new and extra-durable finishes will be prominent among first showings at the NRLDA Exposition. Masonite Corporation will show a new version of its Panelok system for modernizing old walls, consisting of 2'xU hardboard panels held vertically against steel splines. The system admits Adjust-a-bilt fittings into the splines to hold "built-in" desks, cabinets, etc.

Paper-packaged lumber and paneling in all standard industry patterns will attract dealer attention in Georg-iaPacidc eompany's NRLDA Booth. Packaged redwood finish and fir pattern lumber will be brand new. The plasticized. krafC paper packaging, adopted by G-P to provide dealers with "mill-fresh" lumber, is said to withstand one and one-half years of actual weather without loss of waterproofing, flexibility, or strength. Another feature of the exhibit witt be new GPX Yellow Bevel Siding combining advantages of plywood and lumber and featuring a tough phenolic-resin overlay surface which is reported to be an ixcellent vapor barriir eliminating paint blister, check, and peel.

Simpson Logging Company and Simpson Redwood will incorporate promotion and merchandising assistance in their displays covering a variety of redwood products, a new calendered perforated acoustical tile and four roof deckings including new Forestone Acoustical Roof Deck which combines the functions of decking, interior finish, insulation, and sound treatment.
