"lhe Lumber Dealers' Friend"
Patten-Blinn
(Continued from Page 4).
today finds them a veritable builders department store.
It's a far cry frqm early day lumber yard operation to Patten-Blinn's presgrit day merchandising and this interior photo of Patten-Blinn's new Santa Monica store affords a good illustration. Displayed are paints, roofing, floor covering, gypsum produtt samples, builders hardware, carpenters to6ls, almost everything needed for finishing a home' Kenneth Mitchell, yard manager, whose twenty-four years with the company is the average for yard managers, is photographed explaining the advantages ofa Heatilator fireplace unit.
Blue Diamond Corporation, distributors of Heatilators, credits Patten-Blinn with high volume in this product. This affords'a good example of the spread of Patten-Blinn merchandising. Heatilators are rhade of steel plate and are installed by masons; they insure fireplace design that will give efficient heating service and preclude chance of the fireplace becoming a smoky nuisance. It is self evident that Heatilators must be sold the home owner before construction begins.

Why Patten-Blinn Lumber Company should have a -higtr volume in this product is a matter of interest, Pete Baumgartner, city sales manager, explains; "I{eatilators are one of many items we handle to round out our general service to builders, contractors, and home owners. Heatilators are nationally advertised and well lorown and our job is one of proper display and informing prospects of its many fine features. Our experience has been that Heatilators are a par- ticularlv attractive item for the present-day lurnb'er aot due to their rapid turnover, substantial profits and sales vo! ume. Heatilators add little to fireplace costs, afford a'lifetime of service and do not require anj' care after installation"'
Patten-Blinn have been a part of California's rapid growth and are deeply rooted; two wars.have upset their organizatiolt without deflecting them from their course, helping to build the Southland into one of America's finest living and producing regions.
