Visitors to the National Housewares Manufacturers Association Show were given a "spirited" sales talk by a Man from Mars at the U.S. Plywood exhibit.

From a space capsule in the exhibit of Weldwood adhesives, finishes and preservatives produced by the company's Protection Products division, an animated Martian described the special properties of these products.

Included in the display were Weldwood Plastic-resin, Presto-set white, and waterproof Resorcinal glue, Deep-finish Firzite and Satinlac.

P.A.R., a water-repellent exterior stain; Patiolife, a redwood finish for patio furniture; Color Tones stain system, and Woodlife, water-repellent preservative also were shown.

These adhesives, finishes and preserva- tives are scheduled for heavy Fall advertising on national television and in trade and consumer magazines.

A new merchandiser for Weldwood Flexible Wood-Trim was introduced which fea' tures 8' rolls of birch, walnut, fir, mahogany, oak and Korina woods in l" and. 7' widths. These flexible real wood veneers are for edge - banding plywood and for decorating use on cofiee tables, trays and picture frames.

Free to dealers, the new metal display unit is easel-backed for counter use and punched for hanging.

CRA Exponds Sloff

AtllMATE0 Martian makes a pitch for United States Plywood Corporation at national houseware show in Chicago. Backed up by appropriate space sounds, the Man from Mars described the spe cial properties of Weldwood adhesives, finishes and preservatives.

Lowell o'Lee" Rappleyea has joined the stafi of the California Redwood Association as technical services specialist. After a period of familiarization of visiting th6 member mills in Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte counties, Lee will be working with Pete Johnson, director of technical services for CRA.

Some of the projects to which Rappleyea will be giving his attention are: (l) the redwood component cabin, pilot model which has been tested at Fort Bragg and will be further lested under heavy snowload conditions; (2) furthering the exterior finish development program; and (3) evaluation of young-growth redwood properties and uses.
