Jack Dionne throws some scallions to Benito Mussolini in his "Vagabond Editorials" in this issue Seven pages of fine print in this issue are devoted to the provisions of the Lumber Code under the National Recovery Act, which Fresident Roosevelt signed into law August 19.
C. I. Gilbert of Eureka Mill & Lumber Co., Oakland, was elected president of East Bay Hoo-Hoo Club. G. F. "Jerry" Bonnington was elected vice-president and Carl R. Moore secretary-treasurer. Directors are M. R. Grant, Henry M. Hink, Frank W. Trower, C. I. Speer and Joseph Z. Todd. -Active past presidents on the board are Charles S. Lamb' Clement Fraser, H. Sewall Morton, B. E. Bryan, Ray B. Cox, L. J. Woodson and Earle E. Johnson. Mr. Hink was appointed chairman of the Educational committee, assisted by Grant and Bonnington. Tommy Tomlinson entertained the crowd with his jazz piano and Prof. Emanuel Fritz gave a short talk.
Mae Hendricks, secretary for t2 years to Larue J. Woodson at Nicolai Door Sales Co., San Francisco, married Joe I{effron on August 20 . . . Frank Egnell of the Hammond Lumber Co. married Iris Rader in Mill Valley, August 26 W. J. Mulligan, Stanley Ford, A. E. Wolff, R. J. Gutienez and H. H. Barg were named a committee to develop recommendations for a code to govern the San Francisco lumber exporters . . . L. V. Graham of the Pickering Lumber Co. was named secretarv of the newlv formed California White and Sugar Pine Assn. W. R. Spalding, who operates a line of retail lumberyards in the San Joaquin Valley, has been busy lately filling large orders for a motion picture company locationing in the giant redwood forest above Visalia.

Henry W. Swafrord of E. J. Stanton & Son, Los Angeles, was re-elected president of the Pacific Coast Hardwood Dealers Assn. at the annual convention, held in the Palace hotel, San Francisco, August ll-12. C. H. White was re-elected vice-president and Chas. M. Cooper re-elected secretary-treasurer. The re-elected directors are J. Fyfe Smith, E. E. Hall, Geo. H. Brown, C. R. Taenzer, C. H. White and Jerry Sullivan. A tribute of standing silence was paid to the deceased members Bill Davis and Jerry Sullivan, Sr. President Swafford's address was featured by his insistence on the necessity of an advertising campaign to increase the use of hardwoods. The Dollar Steamship Lines extended an invitation to lunch on the S.S. President Hoover, following the morning session which featured Kenneth Smith and Jerry Sullivan in talks. An advertising committee was appointed and included J. E. Higgins, Jr., James Ahearn and K. L. Bates in addition to those mentioned. F. J. Dunbar hosted the shipboard luncheon and showed the guests over the ship, a shining example of how various hardwoods can be used for interior decoration as they were on this great round-the world liner of The Robt. Dollar Co. The S5-year-old A. B. Hammond was introduced at the afternoon session, at which D. J. Cahill of the Western Hardwood Lumber Co., Los Angeles, was principal speaker. IJnanimously elected new members were Reel Lumber Service, Owens-Parks Lumber Co., Bohnhofi Lumber Co., E. A. Howard & Co. and Jones Hardwood Co. Read into the record was the association's appreciation to D. J. Cahill, C. H. White, Roy Barto, L. S. Beale, Kenneth Smith, H. W. Swafford and Chas. M. Cooper for their work in preserving the status of the members as wholesalers in the National Lumber Code. Grover C. Gearhart was named to head a committee to work out a standard svstem of
