Demqnd Puts Mosonite Sunline Siding On Msrket Two Yecrrs Aheod of Time

A striking new pattern for exterior walls, which appea-r-ed experimentilly inlhe research house sponsored by t1t9-N?tional Association of Home Builders at Kensington, Md., is being. introduced west of the Rockies by Masonite Corporatlon. ^

Masonite Sunline siding-an industry first, that is distinctive for the preformed integral ribs that appear in the panels at either 4' or 8" intervals-generated much favorable comment from builders and architects who observed it in the NAHB research house.

In addition to the vertical ribs at {' intervals, as they appeared in Kensington, Masonite Corporation is providing the 4-foot-wide panils also with rib spacing of E'. There is no differential in price between the two styles of rib spacing. The first style has ribs l3f" wide on 4.265" centers, or 11 ribs to a panel. The other style, considered more conservative, has ribs 2" wide on 8' centers, or six to the panel.

Thickness of both panels is 5fI6", with f" thickness at the ribs, raising them 3/16'above the surface of the board.

Completely liidden joints are a feature appealingrto builders and prospective homeowners alike. They fall adjacent to the ribs and are shiplapped to provide a weather-tight joint. Inside corners of the iibs have a small fillet, while outside corners are slightly rounded. These features are reported to give top applarince and provide excellent paint-holding characteristics.

Masonite Sunline Siding may be applied directly to studs on 2{' centers. Installed in that manner, without sheathing, the ribbed hardboard siding has racking strength .*ssgd'ing the minimum requirements set by the FHA. Extra vertical strength is given these panels by the ribs.

Long an accepted exterior style, vertical lines heretofore have had to be installed on the job as battens in a time-consuming, expensive application. In Sunline siding, company executives observed, this popular styling is available in strong', durable and uniform panels that can be erected quickly at a saving in application costs. The FHA has accepted the product.

Sunline siding may be applied vertically or horizontally over sheathing or directly to open studs. Lumber dealers will have it in lengths of 7' to 16'.

Masonite Corporation executives said their interest was so pressing- that the original product was refined and readied for production ahead of the intended 1960 date.
