Sporty Mclnniss ft was daylight one morning, and a fisherman sitting on the end of a long pier extending out into the Gulf from Galveston heard th,e thunder of flying feet, and looked up to see a tall young man, wearing a full dress suit and a top hat, running at full speed down the pier. As the fisherman looked, the tall young man hit the end of the pier like a trained broad-jumper, and sprang far out into the waters of the Gulf. Of course, the fisherman dropped his pole and rushed to the end of the pier, only to see the jumper swimming leisurely back to the dock. He loaned him a helping hand, and then asked,. as the young man got safely up on the dock:
"W'hat's the matter? Suicide, and then lost your nerve, or something?"
"Suicide nothing !" said the blase young man in the drip- ping dress suit. "My name's Sporty Mclniss. I'm from Nashville, Tennessee. One of these Galveston gamblers bet me a million dollars against one dollar I couldn't jump across the Gulf of Mexico, and with them kind of odds . . Boy! I'll try anything!"
Betts-Sine Home lmprovement Compoign (Conttnueil from Page 24)
"'We have followed the teachings of Art Hood from start to finish in this big selling campaign and we know we are on the right track. In our area, now is the time for home remodeling, and we intend to secure our share of the public's business. We are using every means to attract the home owner to our establishment, which includes newspapers, radio and direct mail advertising. We are confident 1961 will be our banner year in Culver City and we hope other retail lumber dealers are interested in this businessgetting promotion, which is excellent for the community, the bankers, contractors and, of course, the lumber dealer," said Red and Bob Betts.
