qAN DfEGO Hoo Hoo Club 3 honored L 't its annual solf tournament winners at a sports nighi meeting recently. Tournament Chairman Ron Angelo awarded trophies to Bill Seely, Hank Barber, Buster Stefius, Ray Lynskey, Gene Huckstead, Les Cassie, Charles Rupe, Louis Hahn, Mike Wexler and Milt Olsen.

About 50 members and guests turned out to hear Bob Breitbard, owner of the San Diego Rockets and Gulls, Jack McMahon, coach o{ the Rockets, and Max McNab, coach of the Gulls, review their teams' prospects for the coming season. The talk was followed by informal questions and answers.

Program chairman for the event was Bud Baker. Door prize winners were Bill Olm' stea,il. Max McNab. and Bob Baker.

Sqles Cqlls-Western Style

Longtime lum,berman George Hostler was out making sales calls last month-in true western style! He wheeled up to Squires Lumber & Hardware in Colton, Calif. on horseback and wearing his western get'up -replete with Stetson hat and chaps.

George, a salesman for Maple Bros., a Whittier, Calif. moulding firm, was in Colton to ride with an equestrian unit in a ,big celebration parade. As the parade passed Squires, George galloped ofi to visit his old friends Mary Squires, owner of the yard, and Jack Jones, manager. Mary was so impressed she snapped this photo.

George's home in Yucca Valley is filled with trophies he's won as a working west' ern rider in California and Arizona.

A lO-year employee at MaPle Bros., George's career includes stints with Patten' Blinn Lumber. C. E. Williams Lumber and Southern Oregon Moulding.

Club Elects Leonord

Dubs, Ltd., a hardy band of northern California divot diggers, has held its 213th consecutive monthly tourney and its an' nual election of new officers and directors.

Retiring president Ev Lewis received a deserved number of kudos for his leader' ship during the past year and Bill Leonard of Empire Lumber Co. was given the un' animous nod to head the organization for the 1967-68 year.

Serving with president Bill as vice-presi' dent will be Les Doddington, sergeants-at' arms Ray Teakle and Ralph Meyer, and secretary-treasurer Tommy Jacobsen, Sr.

New directors include: Bob Anderson and Bob Green, both of Jadco, Inc.; Harry Anthony and Jack Higgins of J. E. Higgins Lumber Co.; Chet Dennis of Seaside Lum' ber Co.; Bill Gilmore, Sunnyvale Lumber, Inc.; Pete Parrish, Union Lumber Co.; John Polach of Hobbs Wall Lumber Co.; and John Prime, Sawmill Sales Co.

John Thompson, manager of Evans Products Co.'s San Francisco, Calif', distribution center, has been named manager of the newly consolidated Bay Area ware' house. The Oakland warehouse was merged into an enlarged Bay Area operation at San Francisco recently.

Al Mury, formerly manager at Evans' Oakland, will serve as sales manager, and George Garbers as credit manager. The sales forces of Oakland and San Francisco were merged.

A workshop session on procedures of management designed to assist lumber dealers in increasing profits and net return on investment has been slated by the Mountain States Lumber Dealers Association.

The financial management seminar is scheduled Ior Sept. 27-28, at the Writers' Manor in Denver. Colo.

Sap Comrnon is no more at least. not by that name.

Two grade name changes have been announced by the Calilornia Redwood Association and the Redwood Inspection Service. Utility grade redwood is Select. and Sap Common redwood takes the name Construction.

The new names are intended to give a more accurate description of the construction grades involved, to dispel the prevalent confusion of the qualities of redwood with those of similarly-named but lower-quality grades of other species, and to more closely associate the sapwood-containing grades with the equivalent heartwood grades.
