New GP Building
Ground has been broken for what is ex' pected to be Oregon's tallest building-the 29-story, $16 million, Georgia-Pacific international headquarters in downtown Port' land.
A variety of Georgia-Pacific building materials will be used in construction: decorative hardwood plywood and lumber panel' ing; overlaid fir plywoods; hardwood lumber; vinyl overlaid drywall; polymer-alloy overlaid flake-board cabinetwork panels; vinyl overlaid hardwood plywood paneling; hardboard; particleboard and other products. Elevator lobbies will be paneled.
Pioneer Hordwqre Firm' Folds
Dunham, Carrigan & Hayden, a Pioneer San Francisco wholesale hardware firm, has filed for bankruptcy after posting losses torunning t9 seven figuresr" accord' ing to August Rothschild.
It appeared that creditors would have to settle for about 25 cents on the dollar. Unsecured claims were $I.7 million.
In better times the company sold hard' ware, housewares and toys coastwide. Re' cently it has operated only in California' Oregon and Nevada. No details have been made available as to the firm's I50 em' ployees.
Lomon Sales Addition
Ralph Lamon, head of Lamon Lumber Co. in San Francisco, has added Jorgen ttJohn" Skov to the sales force o{ the longestablished wholesale lumber concern. Skov's territory will include the East Bay area as well as the San Joa' quin Valley territory, Lamon stated.
A native of Den' mark, Skov packs an impressive amount of lumber background for a 32 year old. He served a four year apprenticeship with A/S Odense Tommergaard (a large hardwood, softwood and building material company) in Denmark prior to joining Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. at Coos Bay, Oregon, in 1956. He later spent two years with Sun Lumber Company at San Pedro, returning in 1959 to Copen' hagen as coordinator of overseas sales for A/S P. Bork & Co. where his tenure also included a year and a half in Bangkolc, Thailand, as manager of the company's buying office.
Skov returned to the States in April 1962 and since that time has worked for MacBeath Hardwood Company covering territories in the Bay Area, Utah and Nevada.
