An additional celebration is scheduled in conjunction with the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association's 65th annual convention at the Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs, Co., Nov. l-3. Lumber dealers from throughout the nation are being invited to recognize the local anniversary on Sunday evening, Nov. l, according to an announcement made by the officers and board of directors of the Mountain States organization.

Coming with its own casette viewer, the film can be run continuously. Included with the theater are takehome booklets on floor installation and care.

Educational experts in the field stress the importance of sending the customer home with written instructions whether he has just attended a seminar, seen a video presentation, or received verbal instructions from a salesperson in conjunction with his purchase of materials and tools. To help you meet this need, manufacturers and manufacturers associations have available for little or no cost a wealth of take-home materials.

Wood Moulding and Millwork Producers Association, Portland, Or., publishes five booklets dealing with wood mouldings. The material covers how-to projects including picture frames, as well as step-bystep information on installation of moulding. The National Kitchen Cabinet Association publishes a catalog of ten consumer education aids for dealer use. Some are designed for stimulating and educating the consumer while others help the retailer train his staff and vitalize his advertising.

"Which" one or "how much" are questions that bother the novice handyman. Manufacturer's charts indicating the proper material and the amount needed for a job can help to answer his query. The Shakertown Siding and Roofing publication with selector chart is an example of the "silent salesmen" available from manufacturers.

Plans or guides for many remodeling projects are available to consumers through manufacturers. The National Kitchen Cabinet Association has available planning guides for kitchens and bathrooms. Georgia-Pacific Corp. and Koppers Co., Inc. have plans for constructing decks and other outdoor projects.

However, these big projects, which are extremely costlY when done professionally, can be d-i-y undertakings. To bolster confidence, you might offer a trial package of material along with your instructions.

As a matter of fact. one manufacturer, Celotex, is convinced that a homeowner can use their product to roof-it-yourself. To back their faith, they are packaging their shingles in a test kit with complete instructions for a do-it-yourself roofing project and information to help the buyer evaluate his own skills. The sample bundle of shingles gives directions for test roofing. If the buyer later purchases shingles to reroof. he will receive a rebate on the test kit purchase price.
