Merchandising Aids

(Continued, lrom Page 14) get possible complaints, selling suggestions or ideas for new or improved products.

These are relayed to company headquarters in Los Angeles for action. An impressive number o{ designs and improvements have been made in the past few years as a result of this "feedback intelligence system."

It is this same receptive and aggressive attitude that Lane finds compatible with Sunset Builders Supply's merchandising plan.

'oTo sum up their image with me, I feel that they not only help us grow but they are helping themselves at the same time through their progressive consumer attitude," Lane said. ool'm a consumer oriented person, and so are they. The result is more sales for both of us."

Lane said Sunset stocks two doorlock lines, a premium-priced group and the competitive-priced Weslock, which he considers the highest quality and best design in the competitive price range.

'oWe used to carry three brands of locks, but finally dropped the third because of customer complaints," Lane said.

"On the rare occasion a lock comes back, there is never a question from the company or the salesman: it is replaced riqht now."

Another factor that appealed to Lane was the speed with which Weslock products, including both shelf items and special orders are delivered from the company in two weeks or less, in contrast to deliveries by competitors of six weeks or more.

Lane was enthusiastic about the Weslock 1970 sales program which, for the first time in the company's 43-year history is aimed at the consumer market. In past years, the lock company has gained its reputation as a supplier of new construction, and now claims one-third of all residential doorlock sales in new homes throughout the United States.
