E&E Tea Co. Founder Essence Easley eeteaco.com

By 'Twins of Media' La Trisha Mcintosh and La Tasha Taylor 6 | BSM MAGAZINE | BSMANDMEDIA.COM

Essence Easley loves all things tea, quotes, and a dream of someday partnering with Oprah Winfrey. The entrepreneur has a mission to live a more meaningful life that stems from her chronic illness and the company she created to help her and others manage it. Read more about her energy to build generational wealth and her thoughts on what will be her legacy.

send them to those I love, and post them. There's always a perfect quote for the moment. We have many hopes for E & E Tea Co.; we want to continue growing, expanding in different marketplaces, sharing our knowledge, and helping people heal naturally. We want to share the love of tea with everyone and make a difference in the lives of our customers and the world.

The meaning behind your company name E&E Tea Co. is sweet. Are there any products that have a unique word meaning as well?

You have a passion for learning & self-healing. Did it come about from your brain surgeries and chronic illnesses? How has the journey changed your outlook on life?

Thank you! We have 4‑ Blends with special meanings. Our Calm Blend is named after my husband & co-founder. He created the blend to help with his sleeping, and if you know his calm demeanor, you'd understand that it's a perfect representation of him. Our Felitas Mix Detox Blend was created for my mom, who has been so diligent in her weight loss journey. Ezra's Midnight Lemonade was made with our son in mind. He's sweet, sometimes tart, loves blueberries, and has brightened up our lives. Lastly, our PTC Tea, our top-selling blend, was created for my illness Pseudotumor Cerebri which those of us who have it affectionately call PTC. We're currently holding a contest to allow our customers to name a new blend we'll release soon. There is a quote on your website "Where there is Tea, there is hope" (by Arthur Pinero). What is the hope for E&E Tea Co.? Quotes are so important to me. I leave them around the house,

This battle has changed my outlook on everything! While my struggle will never truly be over. Right now, I'm doing well. Even in pain, I can get up every morning and do things I love, enjoy the ones I love, and help people. But I've always had a passion for learning. Throughout my formal education, I'd take advanced placement classes or join clubs to learn something new. That passion has just intensified with the times when we have so much knowledge at our fingertips. I recently completed a certificate program offered through the Bank of America Institute at Cornell University on Women's Entrepreneurship. My battle with chronic illnesses has changed my outlook on healing. I took many medications, which made me feel worse than the illness. I needed to find a way to feel better, especially since this is my life story. It's never going away. And from that, I found meditation and tea. I already enjoyed tea and had used it in my health journey when I had to give up caffeine. Learning more about the medicinal benefits

helped me select the best teas. Believe it or not, it worked. On bad days our PTC tea helps me get out of bed. When I need some energy, peppermint is my go-to. I know everyone's journey isn't as complex as mine, but we all have something needing treatment, whether it's seasonal allergies or the occasional fever. You care about the health of your customers and the environment. Was this the inspiration behind your choice to create organic products? Absolutely. Organic natural ingredients with no dyes, alternatives, fragrances, or flavors. We wanted to give our customers exactly what they're drinking, none of the other stuff that you don't need and, in many cases, alter the taste of the tea and are bad for your overall health. It's a bonus that these organic & fair-trade products suit the environment and our customers. 'Essentially You' is your bestseller for customers. Yes, our customers love 'Essentially You' because they can create their blends. Some of the blends on our menu, like Mango Hibiscus Lemonade, started as ‘Essentially You’ blend. We have fun making them and seeing the creative sides of our customers. Your dream of building generational wealth and breaking generational curses is important to you. How has that thinking impacted your family to unlearn ways to become a better person and entrepreneur? It has propelled our family. EMBRACING THE BEAUTY OF SUMMER By: Rita J. Taylor There is a beauty within every season of the year that yields various benefits, however it is something unusual and special about the summer that can bring out the best in us. A time of fun, laughter and forming tighter relationships with those we love. Time of adventure and opportunities to explore cities, states and even countries some have never dreamed of. The beauty of the flowers, the sun shining brightly through the clear white clouds and the fine grain of sand between the toes of children as they build sand castles on beaches across this land. A time to ignite the palate with different foods from various cultures some of which you thought you would never try. Exploring the country hillside with your significant other as you prepare the ground for a lovely picnic captured and covered by the shade of a tree. and you constantly have to think with a level of safety. It is the number one priority for me. The most difficult, I would say, would be in the movie Eraser doubling Vanessa Williams; all four chains were supposed to explode on the cargo container, and they did not, and they waited till the last minute to do that particular stunt where the cargo container was to drop. I was on there with James Caan's stunt double Peter Canton. We are friends to this day, and that's the one thing I love about the stunt community is that we're a family. We stick together no matter what. So, all four chains were supposed to explode. We tested everything––the stunt coordinator and myself and James Caan's double; we prayed, and the next thing I knew, I was swinging through the air, a hundred feet in the air turning back and forth, and the dew had set on the sparks which sent it off balance. I'm in San Pedro, where I grew up. I'm looking at all these stars and looking around, and I'm shaking like a rag doll back and forth, and the chains are 1000-pound thick chains hitting me in my head and all over the place. That was the most challenging, and it was at the very beginning of my career. You doubled for numerous high-profile celebrities, including Halle Berry,

Jennifer Lopez, Taraji P. Henson, Regina King, and Gabrielle Union, to name a few. Which was your most memorable experience? I’m good friends with Lisa Raye and have contact with Yvette Nicole Brown, whom I double a lot. I’ve developed relationships with many of the actresses I’ve doubled; however, I noticed as decades passed that everybody has a different journey and way they go, but when you’re in it, and you’re still doubling for people regularly, friendships do happen. Which actor or actress would you love to work on a movie with and why? I just worked with Mark Wahlberg, which was awesome, but I wish I could work with Tyler Perry just one more time and Johnny Depp. I loved the opportunity to work with Wahlberg in Las Vegas because I like working in Vegas. It's always fun. How does your family feel about the work you do? My mother passed away in 2008. I had no idea that my mother did not want me doing stunts until after she died; she was the type of mother that, no matter what I did, was always supportive, and my mother let me make mistakes. She was just always BSM MAGAZINE | BSMANDMEDIA.COM | 17

there to catch me when things would happen. Who would be your choice if someone could double for you in a movie? Phedra Syndelle. I’ve been watching her; it would be her if someone were to stunt double for me. You are an accomplished singer, dancer, and actress that toured with Al B. Sure and Brandy. What is something else people may not know about your career? When I toured with Al B. Sure, we went all over the world back then, which was absolutely amazing; he's like my little bro. He is a friend of mine to this day. I was also on the “I Wanna Be Down” tour with Brandy. What I know about this industry is that you cannot be one dimensional because the entertainment industry is filled with multi-talented and multi-faceted people. Another mentor of mine, taught me to stick to one thing first, and that’s when I only did stunts, but then the acting, dancing, modeling jobs came later. I’ve danced with the Black Ballet Jazz and even learned dance from the famous Nicholas Brothers. What advice do you have for women who want to become stunt coordinators? Train and keep training. I've been in this industry for a long time. Train and know more than you know and stay prepared is my advice. “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate” is a movie favorite for many. 18 | BSM MAGAZINE | BSMANDMEDIA.COM

There was a stunt mishap on set for you back then working with Regina King. Regina King is one of the most genuine people I've ever met in my life, but I have not been in touch with her in recent years, and Martin Lawrence was one of the most professional people I've met. Fun fact: I used to be an assistant casting director on Martin. So, on A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, I heard the Holy Spirit speak to me. I was about to jump out the window (remember that scene with Martin Lawrence, Regina King, and Lynn Whitfield), and I heard, if you jump out that window, you will die. There was something about that moment (that made me listen to the warning). Especially because I knew another stunt person, Sonja Davis, who died on the set of Vampire in Brooklyn, and I had always promised to be awakened and in touch with what I heard from God. I remember I went to Regina, crying, tears coming down my face, and I told her I couldn't do the stunt, so they called in someone else. I was worried that I would never work again and that my career would be over, but I'm glad I was obedient to what I heard because who knows what might have happened. With such a physically demanding career. How do you like to replenish? I love Dr. Teal's bath. I also do lavender, hemp, CBD, and Epsom salt because of the number of injuries I've had over the years, so I must practice self-care. I get a massage once a month. I'm trying

to implement not eating beef and pork, and as I get older, eating more fruits and vegetables and exercising every day. I walk forty minutes a day, and I do sit-ups and planks. I garden. I love spending time with my husband. I like giving back and doing mission work overseas, and I like being there to support others.

Dr. Cindy Trimm wants people to exist in their “enoughness.” The sought-after global influencer, stateswoman, and international achievement guru spoke about it in a sit-down interview at the Westin Oaks at The Galleria Hotel in Houston in late June. Beau‑ tiful in a vibrant kaftan dress, her immaculately styled hair falling just below the shoulders, Dr. Trimm is the ever-poised transfor‑ mational leader you'd imagine. The hint of sunlight from the large window we sat next to complemented the brightness in the eyes of a woman whose "everyday language empowers individuals to activate purpose and maximize potential.” In the Bayou City for the Kingdom School of Ministry event, the best-selling author hosted a week-long educational experience with the mission to prepare capable men and women to excel in both the marketplace and in ministry, no matter their previous education. Here we briefly discuss her new book “Unstoppable” and what it means for men and women post- pandemic. Dr. Cindy Trimm. How are you? On top of the world! You authored your recent book "Unstoppable," with a foreword by motivational speaker Les Brown. How will this read help people living in a post-pandemic world? Post-pandemic offered such a challenge not just to individuals but to families, communities, industries, and nations period. A lot of people didn't know how to navigate the new normal, and when things change and seasons change, so should your strategy, and we never faced anything like this before. We went from brickand-mortar to click and order. Social media was one of the most important contri butions of technology (then and now) because people were redefining their brands. Everything altered for every one of us. The pandemic challenged us all to think differently. Talk about disruptive thinking. Everything was disrupted in the pandemic, and we emerged from it, but how we did life before changed. We needed new skills and new opportunities. We need‑ ed new mindsets and a new educational system so that we could deal with the technological age that we're living in so; it placed a heavy demand on educational institutions as well. Churches found it challenging because we were moving from in-person to technol‑ ogy. Many churches were unprepared for that, so when I wrote the book Unstoppable, I should have written unstockable—the ability to move stock in our thinking primarily and how we approach problems. Problems haven't come for us as a demise, but to announce that it's time for us to emerge and that there is some potential on the inside of us that is demanding expression and what better time than now for each one of us not only to acquire the skills and the new skills but to be redefined by who we are not just as people but who we are as human beings and as a collective.

Exchanging hugs with affirming words that we would see each other again, Dr. Cindy Trimm headed off to empower a crowd of attendees awaiting their unstoppable moments.

KENNY LATTIMORE By 'Twins of Media' La Trisha McIntosh and La Tasha Taylor BSM MAGAZINE | BSMANDMEDIA.COM | 27

"I’m feeling like it’s a new beginning," says Kenny Lattimore, who was between travels when we spoke to the R&B singer about his new music. His song, Take A Dose, from the album "Here to Stay," debuted this year at #1 on the Billboard charts, much to the grateful heart and humble spirit that is a part of who Kenny is as an artist and, more importantly, a person. The Grammy nominated singer songwriter shares that all the great things happening in his life complement where he is today with his family and career. Married to Faith Jenkins, Judge Faith, a media personality since 2020, the couple welcomed a daughter, Skylar Leigh Lattimore, at the beginning of the year. Kenny says he often gets asked if his next album will be songs dedicated to his baby girl. "People think it should be something with lullabies," he says, but for now, the singer is happy to celebrate that his wife inspires his current music."The inspiration for the album is because of my wife,"says Kenny.“I love it because when I say she influences my music, the lyrics,"His voice is gentle as he continues..."When we started to put the album together, I told the songwriters that was going to be the point of this project. I wanted to make sure it was a way to celebrate my relationship with her. Speaking of celebration, from his vision board to real life, Kenny says the incredible love he’s receiving from his album is the absolute best thing to happen in his music career. "Letting people know that I’m still dedicated to singing these love songs and to get a reaction as I’ve 28 | BSM MAGAZINE | BSMANDMEDIA.COM

gotten makes me feel I’m right on track," shares the singer. His current success couldn't have happened at a better time. It is the same year as his love ballad "For You" anniversary when the song debuted over 25 years ago and turned Kenny into a musical powerhouse when it reigned on the Billboard charts for 17 straight weeks. The popular lyrics, (for you I give a lifetime of stability) "resonated with people in a way that described the depths of their love in their relationships, and now we got Take a Dose and the healing power of love and the consistency of it.”says Kenny. "The healing power of love is so important, particularly in a day and age when people are cynical and don’t believe they can have other people that care about them on a level of what I’ve been singing about all these years." The Washington D.C. native believes the power of having a platform like his with his career is an honor because it has allowed people to take a journey with him to continue to sing these "love” messages for his music listeners. The singer credits "loving what he does" in the industry for the longevity of his career. Expressing that he tries not to feel discouraged by the twists and turns of the music business. Instead, he says, "Whatever happens, his passion for what he does as an artist remains." For Kenny, he admits he experienced moments when the industry that made him a celebrity didn't always feel good. "There was a time when I was not so in love with the

business, and I had to learn to appreciate my legacy." Doing so required Kenny to question his "why." And as he explains it, he says, "I had to go back and ask myself, Why did you do this, the music, in the first place? What is the purpose? It's got to be something deeper," There is a brief pause in the conversation before Kenny finishes his thoughts. "Once you have made your money and live in your big houses and drive your expensive cars and the stuff that people think is a success, what is the deeper purpose that truly defines that fulfillment for you and your career? "I had to know that God gave me something for me, and that is to sing to the hearts of women and the minds of men to encourage them to love." And even when he didn't feel like getting on stage, Kenny says, "I would remember (why I had a gift to sing), which helped to remain in my purpose, even the days when I didn't feel like making another album, I had to stay in my purpose. These days, Kenny is excited at the idea of working with up and coming producers like Drakkar "Madicin" Wesley, who he credits as being instrumental in his latest project. Madicin

produced and wrote 8 out of the 10 songs on the album. "I wanted to give him more exposure because when you see someone that is great, you want to see them reach their next level," says the balladeer. Kenny, who himself was raised in a church going and musically active family, listened to the sounds of Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan growing up,"They were my favorite because they could do anything with their voices, whether it was ballads or blow the song out with their range, I wanted to be like them as a singer," he says. And those legends he speaks of greatly inspired the sound we've loved from him song after song, so Kenny knows how musical influences can span over generations. It's why he welcomes being a mentor to Madicin and other young artists."Mentoring is huge in my heart, and this is a guy that I'm teaching about the industry and stuff," says Kenny, who shares that he secured a distribution deal to put out Madicin's music first, but what ended up happening was the opportunity for the young producer to show his work through Kenny's album. he "teaches me and he checks me," laughs Kenny. "If we're writing a line in a song and it's not authentic to who I am, he will say no, I can't hear Kenny Lattimore saying that, so that I always remain on point and true to the brand. Which also helps Kenny to appreciate the newer artists on the scene. Besides the old school jams that shaped his career, Kenny enjoys listening to the younger generation, like Jazmine Sullivan, Lucky Day, Ro James, and Luke James. Kenny says of the singer and actor Luke, "I'm inspired by his gift and his level of performance." Sharing that his love for an array of young artists is teachable. Kenny says, "I learn from them as well. I learn what passion sounds like in this new generation. Even if I don't agree with everything, they have to say." He laughs slightly before he continues. "I know it's their artistic expression, and I understand that it's going to be the same thing I'm going to have to do for my daughter as she gets older. Yes, generations change, and it's painful sometimes because we compare ourselves to our kids a lot, and everything is very different. My son, KJ, is into music." Kenny's collegeage son Kenny Lattimore Jr. is from his first marriage with singer-songwriter Chanté Moore. "KJ, he is going to come with some BSM MAGAZINE | BSMANDMEDIA.COM | 29

amazing music, and it may be far more raw than what I do, but I want to be able to speak with him in a way that resonates and allows me to have the most influential voice in his life. I want to be that continually and the only way I can be that is to understand him," he says. Whether through his music or who he is as a family man, Kenny has kept his image relatively polished compared to some of the pitfalls of fame and fortune. He recalls when he first sang the words in For You. The industry didn't embrace it. "As a black man singing, expressing (love), they didn't always get it. The people, my fans, loved what I said, but the music industry wanted me to be edgier and sing more from a sexuality standpoint and become a big male sex symbol." There's a bit of light humor in Kenny's voice when he says, "I come from gospel and inspirational music, and though it was flattering that people now thought of me as a sex symbol, I didn't grow up with anyone telling me how I looked, so whenever I heard the whole sex symbol thing, I thought it was funny." Kenny thinks back to when those in the industry talked about his appeal to women." They're trying to market me and make money on how I look to attract women. I'm like, that's great, but it was a much heavier (meaningful) thing for me," he says. "I grew up with a mama who told me that my words were powerful and whatever I gave to these women and whatever I represented to men in how to treat women well in my music would be lasting. I had the power to speak life into them or tear them down

with this music. I chose that my music was going to give life. Even though I wasn't singing Gospel, I was like, this R&B music is still going to give people life because I want to sing about love the way it's supposed to be. And that's what my latest music, Take a Dose is about.” And with his signature sound, Kenny has taken his mother's words of wisdom and matched them with songs of love that music lovers remember and still need to hear today. Kenny's album, he says, allows him to redefine that learning doesn't stop at a certain age."I'm seeing what the new adult wants to hear. How I fit in with authenticity with my performance, so it doesn't sound like I'm trying to be 25." He laughs at the notion before he continues, "Or saying things I shouldn't be saying." And that's why he's happy to let it be known that Take a Dose is all Madicin's idea. Kenny, he says, just lent his vocals to the talented producer's song idea, to which the singer embraces the freed time to do other things he loves."I go to the spa a lot," he says, "Y'all women are a little smarter than us (in finding ways to relax),"he jokes. But Kenny says it helps to go when "I get overwhelmed because I have to stop and take care of Kenny. I can't be the best, Kenny, unless I'm whole, healed, and rested." He shares, "There are some days, I say, let me stop and pause because the world will not fall apart, and I am okay. I've

practiced this level of self-care for many years, so I don't have a heart attack or something. Even now when I go in for my checkups and have my blood pressure taken, the doctor says I have the numbers of a 12-year-old. A healthy Kenny is a present husband and father to his wife and kids—no matter the career demands that takes him away from home. "It's hard because I'm working and traveling a lot, and I'm also thinking as a Type A Personality and saying, "Oh, let me bring this money in." Which Kenny says can be challenging because he loves spending time with his daughter, kissing her on her cheeks, and looking at her little hands and feet. "I see my mother's face and my wife's face when looking at my daughter. I see things that only God can do in moments like this, and all I can say is, wow! I'm thankful. My wife is the rock of our family, with our daughter, our household, because I can't always physically be there. I'm grateful that my son and I have a relationship where we have done well together since he was an infant. I enjoy watching my children grow and experience their milestones to help build their confidence. I want my daughter to see me love her mother and for my daughter to have the most amazing experience of love and support, she could ever have. She will see a father love his family, as I want her to be the healthiest and whole person she can be." And just

as we wrapped up our conversation with Kenny, he headed to catch his next flight, but not without reconfirming that he (indeed) is enjoying all new beginnings.

The Confidence Code to Summer

S

By Christi Pratte

ummer is here! And that may also mean so is a newfound desire to start dating again. Warmer weather, striking sunsets, fun outdoor activities, and cute sundresses this kind of effortless enchantment writes itself. While the scene may seem a bit too "picture perfect," you may be feeling a little less elated and a lot more intimidated by the reality.

Let's face it. Dating can be challenging. It is why you want to do everything in your power to show up as the most confident version of yourself when that cute barista finally asks you out on a date. By showing up with confidence, you exude a more peaceful presence, open mind, and assured sense of self. These are all stunning attributes to naturally develop authentic connections and lines of chemistry. On the other hand, showing up frazzled, uncertain, and riddled with anxiety can slam the door shut on this natural attraction factor without even realizing it. Think about it: when you're uncomfortable and picking at your nails or are distracted thinking about your ex, you're not able to receive what's actually happening in the present moment. You'll notice you missed just about everything your date said, started saying things you didn't really mean, and maybe even began to ramble on about how awful your last date was.

DR. JOY

By 'Twins of Media' La Trisha McIntosh and La Tasha Taylor

Hi Dr. Joy, we love the tagline on your website, 'You can find me at the intersection of Psychology and pop culture' How are the two connected regarding mental health and where it stands today? We are seeing more and more depictions of and conversations about mental health in pop culture, and these conversations need to be based on factual information. My role as a Psychologist is to help the public understand what they may be watching and listening to and how it may apply to their lives. Additionally, having more pop culture conversations about mental health helps destigmatize it and makes the information more accessible. You host the award-winning mental health podcast 'Therapy for Black Girls' What have you seen in your work that would focus on why black girls, in particular, should also seek therapy? And at what age should black girls be seeking treatment? I use the term “girls” in Therapy for Black Girls as a nod to how Black women and girls refer to one another using the word. The show is really about how we can expand our knowledge about mental health at every age. Many of us can benefit from therapy at various points in life, whether to aid in managing a mental illness 34 | BSM MAGAZINE | BSMANDMEDIA.COM

or for more insight-oriented work. Talk to us about mental wellness versus mental illness. Are we confused or misusing the two terms in society? As a society, we have historically talked strictly about mental illness, which has resulted in us neglecting conversations about mental wellness. Our mental health exists along a spectrum. There are, of course, essential things we need to know about how to manage a mental illness. Still, there is also a lot to discuss regarding our mental wellness, including conversations about things like sleep hygiene, boundary setting, and developing a support system. Congratulations! You released your first book 'Sisterhood Heals' on June 27, 2023. The title lends itself to many conversations between women, and relationships between women are often not always healthy or celebrated because of past trauma, triggers, jealousy, etc. Why is it essential to form a sisterhood for healing? Connection is the remedy to much of what ails us. Our connections to other women allow us to soften. They allow us to have greater knowledge of ourselves. They allow us to be seen truly and enable us to support and be supported. In our relationships, we can create space to heal from past hurts. Your book also talks about safe spaces for women and the lack of resources that would allow the sisterhood to show up authentically; why do you feel the rooms are not more common, and what is your hope to combat this issue? The rooms are uncommon because many systems are invested in us, not forming alliances and supporting one another. I hope that we become more aware of the systems at play to divide us––to become champions for one another. In

couples counseling, we talk a lot about helping couples to realize they are fighting against the problem, not one another. The same is true for our relationships with our sisters. What about black women (focusing on gender and race) that some people choose not to understand? And what is one piece of advice you have for maintaining the sisterhood bond to avoid division? I think it’s important to remember that a rising tide lifts all boats. We are often fed the idea that only one Black girl can make it to the top when we know that’s not true. I think it’s vital for us to reimagine some of the spaces we’ve found ourselves in that have been limiting and exclusive to build new ones that are affirming and expansive. Can you offer a fun exercise women can participate in to maintain a positive sisterhood circle? I have a quiz at sisterhoodheals. com/quiz that lets you discover your role in your sister circle, the wallflower, peacemaker, firecracker, or leader. This can be a fun way to learn more about how you show up in your groups but also an excellent way to start a conversation with your circle about the dynamics of the group and how everyone can ensure they are getting their needs met in the process. Dr. Joy, you show up for mental health for countless people through your platform, but how do you show up for yourself to maintain your mental wellness?

It’s giving a summer of sisterhood! I want to enjoy conversing with sisters across the country, celebrating who we are to one another, and discussing ways to strengthen our relationships. I also want to embrace the joy of this moment and stay as present as possible. *Thank you, Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, for your work and all you do to bring healing light to sisterhood, black girls, and mental wellness. Having this space and time with you on earth is an absolute joy. May God continue to bless your journey in the healing process of His people. We hope you are okay with it, as this was in our spirit to share. Grateful for these sentiments! Thank you, La Trisha and La Tasha! P

age Kennedy jokes. He likes looking at himself. That is, at least during our recent Zoom conversation with the “Upshaws" actor. Many may or may not kow he’s a thespian. A Shakespearean-trained actor whose first love is rap. From sneaking onto a CBS studio lot posing as a mail courier early in his career to his expansive vocabulary as a self-described wordsmith, Page has an infectious energy that has him following his dreams, like with new music and a new movie happening simultaneously.

It's a diversity of music topics; you have songs for the ladies. I have a song for my lady called 'Her Song.' It's a throwback to the early 2000s like Ja Rule and Ashanti-type feel, and it's just a feelgood vibe song that the ladies and the fellows will love. I come from a lyrical background as a wordsmith, so I have songs on there that are just straight bars, like witty bars that people know me for—my core fans. I have stories on there; I have social commentary and things that are going on in my life, so it's an array of different elements you get on this project, and that's why it's A Book of Pages because it's all faces of me.

In 2017, you reached a point in your professional life where you focused on your first love and passion for rap music. What was it during this time that made you decide to take this journey?

What was it like working with Method Man on the song 'Pain?' Who would you like to work with in music in the future?

I had already been doing music often. It’s just that the climate we were in did not allow me to be able to distribute this music how I wanted, and for a long time, it’s either you had a record deal, or you had to, you know, burn up physical copies and sell them out of the trunk of your car. The internet did not provide a space where you could circulate it to the world readily, so in 2017, I had already built up a fan base for my name on Vine. I got pretty popular on that platform, and I just took that knowledge and fan base, and then I decided to introduce people to my music. So that’s why I was able to start putting out projects because, at that point, you didn’t need a record label to put your projects out.

Method Man, that's my boy! I've known him since maybe'95 or'96 because I opened for Meth and Wu-Tang at the Grand Rapids Community College when I was in school, Redman was there, so I met those guys then, and fast forward and living in Los Angeles, Method Man and I were on an episode of CSI together. Ironically, I was the rapper, and he played my assistant (laugh), and we would see each other in all different parts of the world. I remember them bringing me out on stage in New Zealand while filming the first 'Meg' and again in Los Angeles; it was just time because we had never actually been on a song together, and I know that this song is called 'Pain,' and I was like, let me reach out to Meth to see if he would bless me, and he also blessed me again with coming to do the video so that was a good look.

The release of your brand-new album in August, "A Book of Pages." What can listeners expect?

There are tons of music artists that I would like to work with, but foremost is Eminem; he is my favorite rapper, and he's been my favorite

rapper for a very long time, but there are tons of people I would love to rock with like Jadakiss, Drake. I would love to work with Jay-Z and Nas. Because I'm a man of a certain age (Page will turn 47 in November), there is a particular demographic of music I just am drawn to, and it is that 90s early 2000s sound that was kind of my heyday, so rappers from that time we still have the symbiotic sound. You have an impressive acting resume, most recently known for your work on the Netflix comedy, The Upshaws as "Duck." What memorable moments have you liked playing the role, and can you share a fun time with your cast members? I loved playing Duck; he was a fun character to play. I intentionally made him different than me because it is so easy for me to do it the usual way, and that is playing a guy who has been in prison that long. Still, I just wanted to give him his own sound and movement and feel for what that character could look like. I love being on that set because it's like a family there. You know, everybody is so close to one another. We all had a good time dancing and laughing, and it was fun working with those guys Mike Epps, Kim Fields, Wanda Sikes, and the entire cast. You snuck onto a studio lot in 2001, posing as a mail courier, which landed you your first-ever audition for the CBS comedy The 38 | BSM MAGAZINE | BSMANDMEDIA.COM

Kennedys. Do you feel that same "hunger" or energy is missing today, namely with social media? I don't know if it's missing; I think it goes along with the vicissitudes of time. We have become malleable to whatever the juncture is of what's happening in the world. Before 9/11, it was more accessible to do things like (sneak on a studio lot hoping to get an audition), but you can't do that now. And people's hunger is just in a different way now. Social media has become like that, allowing every man to be the man now, and that wasn't the case before. You can be a kid in Arkansas and garner an audience based on whatever it is you have to offer, as before, you wouldn't have a platform to do that, so I think there's still a hunger; it just resonates in a different form now. Next, you will be in the highly anticipated Warner Bros. summer movie "Meg 2: The Trench," a sequel to the blockbuster "The Meg" in 2018, expanding your role of 'DJ.' Tell us more about your character and why people should see the film. People should go to see the film because this film is alright! I can't wait to see it again; I saw it for the first time with my family at the premiere, and I was nervous because sequels are tough when you have an original story. A lot of times, it's difficult to supplant that, but this sequel feels different than the first one, where I felt like it wasn't taken that seriously, so it was kind of like a fun popcorn film to me then. This one is like a real movie;

it still has elements of that popcorn feel at certain parts, like towards the end, where it gets fun and crazy, and chaotic. Still, there is a time in the trench area when this is like a real suspenseful movie that you're on the edge of your seat and holding your breath just like they are; you know this movie is just a complete ride; it is a quintessential summer blockbuster film that you take your entire family to. Then you go back again next weekend because it's that much fun! With a summer album and movie release happening around the same time, what would you say is your summer vibe for 2023? My vibe is like happiness, an amentiferous summer, an awesome summer. I need it to be propitious; I need it to be a felicitated summer that is beautiful and radiant. I feel like this movie and this album have all the hopes of that occurring and happening, so I’m all smiles in anticipation. We joked with the father of four that we needed a dictionary after our conversation with him, to which the actor and rapper leaned back in his chair and laughed as he appreciated and thanked us for the time, all the while complimenting what he said were our infectious smiles and us congratulating him on living out his dreams. @pagekennedy
