MEMBER NEWS Delta Woods Middle School has been named a 2021 Missouri Gold Star School by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Missouri’s Gold Star Schools program was established by DESE in 1991 to identify schools that are performing at a high level academically or making exceptional progress. This year, Delta Woods Middle School is one of only eight schools in the entire state to receive this distinction. HR Block is now hiring. Turn your love for numbers and helping people into a career. MEET A BOARD MEMBER Kirk Lair, CJCFPD My organization is Central Jackson County Fire Protection District where I oversee the Operation of the Department making sure we have everything ready to respond to any emergency that we have. We provide Fire and Emergency Services to Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Lake Tapawingo and the rural areas in between those communities. We also provide Emergency Medical classes to the community as well as to those in the Fire and EMS Service Nationwide. Our Community Risk Reduction team works hard on assisting the Community in several areas for Fire/EMS such as safety training programs, fire safety inspections, and assisting residents with care by reducing the need to go to the hospital by ambulance or potentially maybe not go at all.

I became involved in the Chamber with my promotion to Deputy Chief. I have been on the Chamber board for 1 year, and what I enjoy most about the Chamber is the interaction the Chamber has in the community. They help in any way possible and go above and beyond to help promote the businesses and events in the community. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family. I am married 20 years and have 2 daughters and 3 grandkids. I also enjoy hunting and riding ATVs with my grandkids.

The Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce Promotes Trish Totta to Vice President The Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Trish Totta has been promoted to Vice President. In her new role, Totta will continue to oversee all aspects of membership and add new management responsibilities. She will support the day-to-day management and development of the organization as well as the implementation of the strategic plan. She is second-in-command and will fulfill the President’s role when the President is absent or unavailable. Totta started with the Blue Springs Chamber in 2016 as Director of Membership. By the end of 2017, the Chamber realized a net gain of 30 members and continued similar growth in 2018 and 2019. Trish was part of the team that helped the Chamber achieve the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s 2018 Missouri Chamber of the Year award in the fall of 2018. “Trish has the ability to see what our members need and then connect them with resources that truly grow their business.”, said Lara Vermillion, Chamber President. “She teaches people how to maximize the value of the Chamber and believes in serving her community as a “go giver”, constantly and consistently delivering value to others. Trish makes a difference for people by listening and then taking steps to help meet their needs. She always strives to help the organization and our members be the best they can be.” Vermillion continued, “When COVID-19 hit, Trish was an integral part of our team. She was able to quickly connect to members because of the relationships she had already built with them. This allowed an exchange of information that helped businesses adapt and adjust quickly in a changing environment. Our members trust her and regularly share information with her. The relationships she has developed make a difference in what we do. We can help our members more completely because we understand what they need.” Active in the community, Trish served as a staple volunteer for many years for St. John LaLande Catholic School. She served on the Advisory Board for the Blue Springs YMCA and on the annual Mission Campaign Board for 3 years. She is a member of two local networking groups, Business Community Alliance, and GoToGroup. Trish is a graduate of the 2018/2019 LEADership Blue Springs program and is currently serving on the Blue Springs/Grain Valley Advisory Board for Truman Heartland Community Foundation. She also volunteers for the Truman Heartland Community Foundation Gala Committee.
