On the first slopes of the alpine chain, Givoletto is placed between the homonymous valley and Valle Grande. The Torrent Vaccaro crosses the Givoletto territory, which is surrounded by the peaks of Mount Baron (818 m), Mount Rosselli (1205 m), Mount Lera (1368 m), Mount Punta FournĂ (1131 m) and Mount Castello (572 m). Givoletto is characterised by the presence of the Nature Reserve of Madonna della Neve on Mount Lera, between the Val Ceronda and the hollow of Givoletto. Woods of oaks, bay-oaks, hornbeams, cherries, lindens, hazelnuts, birches, firs, robinias and acacias surround the Reserve, while in the undergrowth one can appreciate alpine plants such as the Campanula Glomerata and the wild narcissus. Various species of animals inhabit the territory of the Reserve including deer, wild boar, foxes, hares and squirrels; but also grey herons, white storks, angler falcons and mallards.
CURIOSITY The territory of Givoletto is the natural habitat for the Euphorbia gibelliana, a rare species of Euphorbia that grows only in this zone and in few other Piedmontese localities. The specimens are usually found grouped in colonies. They have a bushy aspect consisting of 20 to 50 plants. The stem, about half a meter long, ends with a sort of five-spoke umbrella with at the end a single flower with five leaves around.
