Message from the President

As another school year closes--the 54th one of Brother Martin High School and the 154th year of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart educating young men in New Orleans--we naturally reflect on the year just completed and make needed adjustments as we prepare for the 2023-2024 school year. Our Principal, Ryan Gallagher, and our administration review every school process and event. What worked well? What didn’t? We continually seek to better ourselves, which is at the core of everything we do here at Brother Martin. This pledge “to meet the needs of our changing world” has been ingrained in the DNA of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart since its founding in Lyon, France in 1821.

The Brother Martin High School Board of Directors challenged me to create a five-year Strategic Plan for Brother Martin High School, and we have made much progress in this endeavor over the past 12 months. Working with John Devlin, the Director of Schools for the Brothers of the Sacred Heart United States Province, and Justin Fleetwood, our Director of the Strategic Plan, we have convened a comprehensive steering committee that has guided this process. From reviewing and modifying our school’s mission statement to creating a list of “assumptions” and “principles,” the steering committee has gathered a great deal of input from our stakeholders: current students and parents, faculty and staff, and alumni. We have examined every area of school life-- from academic departments to facilities and from technology to athletics-

-and we have constructed an official proposal for our Board of Directors with goals in each of these areas of our mission and ministry. We eagerly await their consideration and, ultimately, their approval of this plan that will guide the improvement of our school for the next five years.

Finally, once our Strategic Plan is approved by the Board of Directors, we will start the process of creating a Master Plan for Facilities, which will outline all the necessary capital improvements needed to meet our Strategic Plan goals. This Master Plan will provide a fundamental blueprint for Brother Martin High School that would include any necessary renovations and new facilities.

Stay tuned for the good news that has always and will always come out of our beloved school. One thing I can guarantee you throughout this process is that Brother Martin High School will forever remain committed to the charism of Fr. Andre Coindre and the traditions and spirit of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart! With a devoted faculty and staff as partners in this mission, eager students, supportive parents, and loyal alumni and friends, the future is bright for the young men in our care.
