Trivia Night XV & Academic Games Reunion

In late December, the Brother Martin Advancement and Alumni Relations Office hosted Trivia Night XV and Academic Games Reunion. The Gayle and Tom Benson ’44 Mall was filled with 25 teams consisting of parents, faculty and staff, and Alumni vying for the Trivia Night XV Championship. James Maumus ’89 and Jeff Maumus ’97 of Challenge Entertainment and Live Trivia returned to campus to host. Everyone enjoyed crispitos, pizza, and cold beverages provided by Brother Martin Food Service.

“Generational Talent” (Scott Cernich ‘92, Alison Cernich, Richard Cernich ’64 SA, Susan Cernich, Jennifer Theriot, and Rob Theriot) were crowned overall champions. “Brother Neal’s Browser History” (Steffan Jambon ‘03, Brandon Monteverde ’03, Yancy Matherne, Jr. ’03,

Matthew Ladouceur ’03, and David Roux) finished as overall runners-up. “The Mallers” (Johnny LeBourgeois ’73, Kraig de Lanzac ‘86, Braden de Lanzac ‘18, Kelly LeBourgeois, Tim Napier, and Frank McCaskell ‘81) won the “Brother Martin Trivia” portion of the event. Taylor Gilbert ’03 was the lucky winner of the 50/50 raffle and generously donated all of his winnings back to Brother Martin.

Ladies of the Shield – Sweet 16

The Ladies of the Shield celebrated 16 years of service to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and Brother Martin High School. In mid-November, more than 200 Ladies of the Shield members and guests celebrated the organization’s “Sweet Sixteen” with Mass in the James B. Branton Chapel, which was celebrated by Msgr. Andrew Taormina ’54 SA, followed by a cocktail party in the Brother Mark Thornton, S.C. Terrace.

Everyone enjoyed delicious food from various restaurants as well as wine and prosecco served out of a special Champagne Truck. Cissy Yakelis, Director of the Ladies of the Shield and charter member, welcomed all of the guests alongside President Greg Rando ’77 and Ladies of the Shield members Debbie Perrone and Cari Rhoton

The Ladies of the Shield have been involved in and have supported many service events throughout the past 16 years, and they have together fully funded a scholarship and established a Ladies of the Shield Endowment in the St. Aloysius Century Foundation that will continue to benefit families in need for many years to come.

Wednesday at the Square

Members of the Brother Martin community gathered at the Youth Leadership Council’s “Wednesday at the Square” in Lafayette Square in late March. Attendees enjoyed complimentary food and beverages in the Brother Martin tent while enjoying the music of Galactic with Stanton Moore ’90. Members of the Crimson & Gold Network’s Law Professionals joined the party following their CLE session, hosted by Judge Kurt Engelhardt ’78 across the street at the U.S. Courthouse.
