If you can’t do it well, don’t start. The values that we believe in are; academic excellence, innovation and global awareness. These values are important but the most paramount is family. “ “

Message from the Director

Why did you start Brookhurst International Schools?

I am an educationist with extensive experience. My mission was to transform students by providing a comfortable learning environment. Driven by passion, I sought a global perspective rather than adhering to the then system. I wanted my students to access international education opportunities.

What values did you want Brookhurst to embody?

My guiding principle is, “If you can’t do it well, don’t start.” At Brookhurst, we value academic excellence, innovation, and global awareness. Above all, we prioritize the importance of family. These are the core values I uphold.

Have you achieved most of your goals?

Yes, we have achieved most of our goals. We aimed to balance talents, academics, success, and sports. Our academic pass rate has never fallen below 98%.

Where do you see room for improvement?

We need to place more emphasis on sports and talent development, encouraging students to discover their passions. Additionally, we aim to introduce more educational pillars, such as the International Baccalaureate (IB), alongside A-levels. We plan to expand and improve our facilities, open more branches nationally, and enhance student discipline and character. Guiding students to use technology responsibly as a learning resource is also a priority.

What inspired you to start Brookhurst as a boys’ school?

The education system in Kenya often marginalized boys. We wanted to boost their confidence, foster independence, and help them build themselves up.

How do you feel about managing both Kiserian and Lavington campuses?

I don’t feel overwhelmed managing both campuses. We are building an institution meant to last for generations. I mentor staff and interact with students regularly. As we approach the summer holiday, I encourage everyone to be responsible and seize this opportunity. Remember, success is about making the world a better place.

Prof. Ruth Waweru Executive Director

Principal’s Message

It is with massive dignity and pleasure that I welcome you to join me in recollecting upon the extraordinary path we have had throughout this academic year 2023-2024. As we gather to commemorate our accomplishments and bid farewell to another worthwhile year, allow me to extend my warm appreciation to each and every one of you for an endless support.

Being executive principal gives me a sense of satisfaction, knowing very well that for all these years, we have transformed lives of young people and secured the future of many generations. It gives me a sense of pride to know that the families that brought their sons and daughters here are contented with the services that we have been offering. It gives me fulfillment to see growth in terms of the infrastructure, the student and the staff.

Over this academic year we have seen the talents and nurtured themranging from our swimmers, basketballers, footballers and athletes both boys and girls alike. The transformation we have been able to get is immenseas well as a revamp in the drama team staging some impressive acts.

We have also transformed students to dignify humanity and build their self-confidence. Brookhurst is unique! It is warm; embraces and celebrates the African culture. We teach the international curriculum in the African setting while instilling values of excellence and dedication. We have enriched our curriculum with programs such as Aviation, Pre-medicine clubs and invested in sports coaches, to improve the standards of the students.

We believe that the best values are instilled at the family level for learners to develop a fixed personality, this also enhances brother and sisterhoods among our community, making the students feel a sense of belonging and thus treat each other as siblings of the same father and mother. Perusing through the pages of this book, reflect on the incredible journey we have embarked upon.

Thank you for being a part of our process, for your help to create such a wonderful yearbook that not only captures the history but the consistent moments of Brookhurst International Schools.

As we look forward to the new academic year, let us carry forward the lessons we have learned, the friendships we have forged, and the goals we have achieved. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence in all our endeavors.

We teach the international curriculum in the African setting while instilling values of excellence and dedication.

From the Academic Desk

Taking Early Years Foundation Stage and Cambridge Curriculum as the basis of academic guide has exposed our learners to Academic excellence, global recognition, and exposure to the most recent teaching and learning methods well deliberated for generation alpha. Our students are taken through diagnostic assessments through formative and summative evaluation processes.

Coffee Bars, Family meetings enhanced a shared noble vision between you and the coordination team. Most of all, our gratitude to the parents who made sure that learners adhered to school rules and regulations, not to mention, relentless yet positive feedback to better this team.

At the close of this academic year, we take pride in our collective achievements and nurturing environment. Together with students, parents, teachers and staff we have fostered growth and success.

We all eagerly anticipate even greater accomplishments in the future.

Career Guidance Department Academics Team

For many youngsters, school and life in general present an endless list of demands and challenges. From trauma and learning disabilities to bullying and course selection, life can be difficult for students. A school counselor is there to help.

The basic role of a school counselor is to support students in their psychological, academic, and social development.

However, the breadth of school counseling is expansive. One minute, the school counselor may provide a social-emotional lesson to a first-grade class, and the next, they collaborate with the administrative team on a new school-wide behavioral intervention system.

We identify their abilities, capacities, and interests, preventing dropout. In conjunction with the school career master, we advise students about their career orientation and decisions. In doing so, our students prepare for higher education and college admissions.

Students’ Council

Welcome Generation 24.25

As we close another remarkable school year, it’s time to reflect on the achievements and experiences that have defined our Student Council’s journey. This year has been filled with initiatives, events, and projects that have enriched our school community and fostered leadership, teamwork, and personal growth among council members.

At the heart of our efforts, the Student Council strives to represent the voices of all students, ensuring that our school is a place where everyone feels valued and heard. Our mission this year was to enhance the student experience through meaningful activities, fostering a sense of belonging, and advocating for student needs.

While this year presented its share of challenges, including navigating the complexities of hybrid learning and ensuring the well-being of our peers, these obstacles provided valuable lessons. We learned the importance of

resilience, adaptability, and the power of a united community. Each challenge we faced only strengthened our resolve and commitment to serving our fellow students.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the outgoing team: President Caleb Sameri and Nikisha Kamau, Vice President Serena Mwangi. Your dedication and hard work have left a lasting impact on our school, and your leadership will be greatly missed.

As we look to the future, we are excited about the potential for further growth and the opportunity to build on the foundations laid this year. We plan to introduce new initiatives that promote inclusivity, mental health awareness, and academic support. Our goal is to ensure that every student feels empowered and equipped to succeed.

To our advisors, teachers, and administrators, thank you for your unwavering support and guidance. To our fellow students, thank you for your trust and enthusiasm in participating in our events and initiatives. Your involvement

As we hand over the baton to this year’s council, we are confident that they will continue to uphold the values and mission of the Student Council. Together, we have made a difference, and together, we will continue to shape a brighter future for our school.

Here’s to a year of leadership, learning, and lasting memories.

Presidents’ Address 24/25

Why did you vie for president?

John: The thought of being the mediator between the student body and the school administration motivates me. I am engulfed by the passion to ensure that student concerns and discomforts within the school environment are taken into account.

I vied for president because the opportunity to guide and lead the student body through the prefect council catalyzes excitement within my thoughts.

What are your plans as the president?

Sasha: As the female president, I plan to advocate gender equality within the school by increasing female representation in leadership and sports. I wish to build a community where all students thrive both academically and personally. I also believe in advocacy as all students have a voice that deserves to be heard and views that should be taken into account when making decisions.

I plan to do this by encouraging girls to participate in fields that interest them regardless of gender domination. I will also reinforce the importance of women in leadership roles. I will listen to what all students have to say, be it junior or senior, male or female by showing them that their inputs are valued.

John: My vital goal is to not only emulate the previous presidents’ achievements but to exceed them.

The mentoring and tutoring from the previous prefect’s council has motivated us. To be better for the benefit of not only Brookhurst International School but the people that resides within the community today and tomorrow.

Thank you generation 23.24

BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION COUNCIL

What are BTEC qualifications?

BTEC stands for ‘Business and Technician Education Council’ which used to run the award, first introduced in 1984. BTECs are vocational and work-related courses, rather than traditional academic courses, designed for study in a wide range of occupational areas from business to performing arts. BTECs are offered at all levels: levels 1 and 2 are equivalent to GCSEs, level 3 to A Levels, and levels 4 -7 hold the same status of achievement as a degree.

Why take a BTEC instead of an A Level?

BTEC national level 3 diploma courses have become one of the most widely recognised qualifications for admission to Higher Education; they are gaining popularity as an alternative to A Levels. According to figures from UCAS, the proportion of sixth-formers taking vocational qualifications rose from 3% in 2004 to 15% last year. So what are the benefits of a BTEC qualification?

• University progression

After 33 years of success, BTECs have built a sterling reputation. More and more

students are applying to universities with BTECs, which is clear sign that institutions have recognised the value of a BTEC qualification. According to an article by the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association, 95% of universities in the UK accept BTEC students, including universities from the Russell Group. In 2015, over a quarter of students accepted into higher education held at least one BTEC, which is further proof that BTECs are just as respected as A Levels.

• Employability

BTECs prepare students for employment; courses can develop a student’s employability skills as they offer the experience of real-life practical tasks and work placements. The CBI has claimed that schools are “exam factories” and that A Levels fail to prepare students for the world of work. BTEC qualifications are generally well-regarded by employers as the courses enable students to develop useful hands-on skills such as time management, communication, problem solving and planning.

• Career progression

Employers value BTEC qualifications as courses are usually industry-directed, in other words they give students industry-specific knowledge and skills which makes them readily employable. Courses are developed by professional bodies and higher education experts, which guarantees that a BTEC-qualified candidate will demonstrate the right standards of knowledge and practical skills for the role.

• Practical assessments

BTECs are more practical qualifications with a focus on flexible learning and independence, which appeals to those who find traditional teaching methods and exams difficult. The assessment for BTECs is largely based on regular coursework and work experience, which makes them an ideal option for those who crumble under the pressure of exams.

Brookhurst International School offers a unique early childhood experience for children aged 3-8 years. This period is marked by remarkable brain development and presents a crucial window of opportunity for education. Our early years program at Brookhurst is designed to maintain a child-centered approach, ensuring children feel safe, develop confidence, and find joy in learning. We identify each child’s particular needs through assessment, providing appropriate intervention and support.

Every day, children engage in outdoor learning opportunities and participate in additional activities such as music, P.E., swimming, ballet, karate, and library time.

At Brookhurst International, we deliver the Cambridge Early Years Curriculum for children aged 3-8, along with the Jolly Phonics reading program. This curriculum provides young learners with an excellent start in life, helping them meet key early milestones and thrive both in and out of school. It is child-centered and allows young learners to develop at their own pace through holistic inquiry and play-based opportunities, covering all curriculum areas, including personal, social, and emotional growth.

All areas of learning are given equal emphasis, with consideration for the children’s ages. The curriculum engages young

MUN Gallery Model United Nations Conference Istanbul

This year, our school proudly participated in the Model United Nations (MUN) conference, an event that brought together enthusiastic students from various countries to engage in diplomatic debates and discussions on international relations. Our delegation ranging from juniors to seniors, represented different countries. They dedicated months to researching their assigned nations, preparing persuasive speeches, and understanding complex global issues.

Held in Turkey, the conference featured inspiring keynote speeches, intense committee sessions, and opportunities for cultural exchange. Our students participated in committees such as the General Assembly, Security Council, and World Health Organization, tackling issues like climate change, global health, and international security.

Their collaborative efforts resulted in several resolutions being passed, highlighting their dedication and hard work. Beyond formal sessions, students forged new friendships and gained a deeper understanding of international relations. The MUN conference has left a lasting impact, equipping our students with enhanced leadership skills and a sense of global citizenship.

We are immensely proud of our students’ achievements and look forward to their continued success in future conferences. Their participation in MUN has not only brought honor to our school but also prepared them to be the leaders and changemakers of tomorrow.

Cultural & Talents Day

At Brookhurst, we embrace diversity, given the trajectory in the world on what will be the future. Our rich mix of cultures is celebrated on the Annual Cultural and Talents Day mostly hosted on the first term of the academic year.

We hosted our annual event and it was nothing short of incredible talent and cultural diversity. We are known for administering the British Curriculum in an African Cultural setting which really helps our young students develop character and identity from a young age which comes in handy in their lives beyond Brookhurst.

The theme for this edition was Hollywood meets West Africa meets South Africa. The students, parents and the Brookhurst community really put on a show displaying their best cultures and talents. This was special since we had an interhouse competition still in the same event showcasing the best well represented cultures.

The event was well crowned with plenty of style, this meant our Mr and Miss Brokhurst were to be at their best to claim the prestigious titles which were claimed by Leo Iguri and Abiei Bol respectively.

High School Musical

At Brookhurst, we embrace individual and team talents and in that same spirit we have been able to provide various avenues for our learners to thrive amng them our annual musical. Our learners at the end of the third term normally have a musical performance where our visual and performing arts department treat us to a play. This year we got treated to a play called Annie.

Talents on show left the audience amazed by their abilities to grasp and act out such a production. Parents and students alike showed up to support the actors and the crew staging the play.

The drama was well done as the chemistry and coordination made the play a success. We look forward to hosting you in the next play next year.

High School Sports Day

This year’s High School Sports Day was a fantastic display of athleticism, teamwork, and school spirit. Students from all grades came together to compete in various events, showcasing their talents and determination.

The day began with an energetic series of track, including sprints, relays, crazy soccer, obstacle races and fill the bottle game. The excitement was palpable as students cheered on their classmates, creating an atmosphere of pride and friendly competition.

Highlights included thrilling relay races, impressive games like crazy soccer, and a spirited tug-of-war contest. The enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed by our students were truly inspiring. Our students showed up decked and ready to represent their various colors on the day.

In the end, everyone celebrated the collective effort and enjoyed a well-deserved break with refreshments and music. Sports Day was a memorable event that strengthened our school community and highlighted the importance of physical fitness and teamwork.

We look forward to next year’s Sports Day and another round of incredible performances by our talented students!

Prep-School Fun Day

Fun Day was an amazing adventure for all our young athletes in prep-school The day was packed with exciting games, lots of cheering, and plenty of fun.

The event kicked off with a colorful opening ceremony where everyone marched proudly with their class banners. After that, the games began! The 50-meter dash and the relay race had kids running their fastest to win shiny medals.

The sack race brought lots of laughter as kids hopped to the finish line in big sacks. The chicken run had everyone giggling as they raced to get the chicken. Crazy soccer was a wild game where the rules were as fun and unpredictable as the kids playing. The parents’ races were a big hit, with teachers, moms and dads showing off their running skills and joining in the fun.

One of the best parts was seeing everyone cheer for their friends, showing great teamwork and spirit. The

excitement was high as students cheered each other.

After all the events, we had a chance to share delicious snacks and lively music as the awards were being distributed. It was a perfect end to a fantastic day, where everyone could relax and celebrate their efforts. Fun Day was a wonderful reminder of how much fun it is to play and be active together.

We can’t wait for next year’s Sports Day to have even more fun and games. It’s always a special day that brings our school community together, celebrating the joy of sports and the spirit of participation.

Career Day & University Fair

On 27th April 2024, we organized in collaboration with Imperial Education Consultants along with UNIPAS Abroad and other leading university representatives from abroad and within our boundaries.

This has been a long standing tradition where our Year 9 students get a whole week in guidance and consultation with teachers and the career department and on the last day of the week, we get to invite some of the experts to help shape the young students careers in advance as we prepare them for life beyond Brookhurst.

Notable among the presenters were some of our parents like Dr Ongeso in frame and alumni like Ian Ng’ang’a who shared their experience in being at Brookhurst and how it helped him take on university life.

This motivational day was shared by not only BIS students but parents as well who also shared some words of encouragement as our young lads get ready for their careers.

Music and Performing Arts

The music department has done exceptionally well this year. We have been able to entertain the guest and our students as well in numerous occassions so far this year with incredible performances. This is when words fail, music speaks. We have been able to learn a broad range of instruments.

This year has indeed been a blessing as we have witnessed the talents and music skills grow. From vocals to the instruments, our music trainers have been able to put

together a brass band.

The band has played in numerous events so far and making their debut during the class of 2023 graduation ceremony. Since then, the students have now attracted more students in a bid to have senior and junior bands. The blend of the juniors and seniors has also been on show and the skills and talent are to be celebrated.

Months of training have led us to the success that we have seen in various events like the Cultural Day, Graduation Ceremony and recently at a conference held at CITAM Ngong church.

We look forward to the next academic year to be able to empower and develop more talents of our young musicians.

At Brookhurst we offer extensive and in-depth music education as an academic disciple based on the IGCSE curriculum at all key-stages. We welcome all who are interested in as well taking it as a co-curricular activity. Our class sessions and music instrument lessons along with voice coaching are the spaces where learning takes place.

As we approach the summer holiday, we cannot wait to see what new talents come in the next academic year.

From the librarians’ desk

This year, our young learners have taken a keen liking to visiting our library and making use of the facility. We have since gone on to add some more materials for then to peruse.

The library stands as the unsung heroes ensuring that every book finds its reader, every query meets its answer. Brookhurst International Shools, we take learning as a participatory experience rather than the traditional teacher to student content download. We encourage our learners to seek knowledge in the shelves of our library.

Reasearch is a fundamental aspect of leraning that the British curriculumm requires as well. As we move to the digital world we will look to digitize our services while still maintaining the traditional hard copies of the books for the few who appreciate the old way of doing things.

As we head out for the holidays we would like to encourage our learners to keep reading. Knwoldege is always a never ending quest.

Ms Sharon & Mr Onyancha

Our school celebrated the holiday season with a joyful evening of Christmas carols on December 2023. Students, teachers, and families gathered to enjoy traditional carols performed by the choir and band, creating a heartwarming atmosphere. The event featured sweet snacks, and festive decorations, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.

A highlight was the students’ serene rendition of “Silent Night,” emphasizing the true meaning of Christmas. The evening concluded with a strong sense of camaraderie and goodwill, leaving everyone with cherished memories. This event, captured in our yearbook, showcases the joy and unity that Christmas brings to our school.

STUDENT’S ARTICLES

Make time … …

Making time for everything could be easy or hard, depending on where you come from. In my experience I’ve found it easier to do things at the right time. In class I would be reading novels and being in my own world till the teacher tells me to focus on what they are teaching rather than my book, guess… that is “my weakness”, which genuinely helps me some of the time. I feel like the teachers annoy me, are against me or hate me. Taking my novel genuinely helps me. It gives me an opportunity to focus on my studies thus achieving better grades.

I also struggle not to talk to my friends in class; I’ve eventually identified this as a problem. Why should I disrupt my learning process when I can just listen and learn more in my lessons?

The matter of school uniforms has been a topic of debate for years, but they have remained important in educational contexts. Students are treated equally regardless of their social status through the use of standardized clothing. The uniform of students is a valuable tool in reducing bullying and peer pressure, as it helps to prevent the perception of their attire as inappropriate.

Furthermore, school attire can foster a sense of camaraderie and pride in one’s educational experience. When everyone is dressed identically, it creates a sense of unity and community among students. This can contribute to a better school spirit and thereby improve the learning environment.

In practice, uniforms make the morning routine much more manageable for both students and parents. You don’t have to fret over your dressing choice -- there are fewer arguments and less stress at home.

Despite criticism that uniforms suppress individuality, they can be customized with accessories like necklaces, hairstyles and bags. In the end, school uniforms are a great asset to the educational system, as they promote balance, cohesion, and provide an appropriate learning environment for all students.

Who knew kindness was the missing piece

At first, I was afraid of him. But how wrong were we to judge him by his appearance! The slanting prim-rose rays of the setting sun in the western horizon, gave a warm orange tinge to the sky. Strolling home, like a bolt from the blue, I heard a faint beckon. Turning, what met my disbelieving eyes was a frail and emaciated vagabond. To state I was on tenterhooks would be a great understatement! What did the man want? Each step closer he took, the stronger an ominous, pungent smell got! I retorted in a nail-biting soliloquy. Giving credence to the timeless maxim, do not judge a book by its cover, I swallowed my pride and he looked as though he was in dire need of food. “Please, help me with any amount of money.” he uttered sinking to his knees. I began strutting away knowing I couldn’t help him although I was in possession of hundred -shilling note thinking it was sufficient. Changing his tactic, he asked for food. At that point, I sympathized with him, gave in and took him too ramshackle. Unlike other hungry men, he humbly prayed before passionately munching the sizzling meal. As I was about to set off, he called out my name yet I had not introduced myself. Pellucid, soul-taunting fear gripped me tighter than a carpenter’s clamp as I called my bosom mother and headed to the station. Barging in like a raging bull, my mother suddenly came to a halt upon laying eyes on the strange man. “My long lost brother!” she exclaimed as tears effortlessly ran down her rosy cheeks. She mobbed him with a cuddly, never-ending, bear hug. I was struck by atavistic bewilderment. What a coincidence that was!

higher…..

Out the door I stride, dreams in my sight, with hope and joy, I will conquer the height.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams

Be the change you wish to see in the world

Do I have plans? Mmmh not really but out the door I stride, dreams in my sight, with hope and joy, I will conquer the height.

All ideas about life’s one wise crack at a time

When following your dreams, make effort to accomplish them I will conquer the height.

The best-laid plans are not necessarily the right ones

Unrelenting enthusiasm is to pull off together

I will conquer the height.

Regret is… not following your passion

The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

THE OBSTACLE OF TRANSITION

Have you ever wondered what would happen if something change in your life? Probably you would be able to time-travel or relocate to another continent. Well… that is what I encountered. Little did I know my lifestyle changed as I had to relocate? Let’s begin… I was born in Mississauga, Canada in 2010. I had a chance to visit my home country, Kenya after six years. I had a structured routine both in academics, extra-curricular and leisure time. My family and I had trips all over the world, except Kenya. In December 2018, we made a decision to visit my country.

It was a wonderful experience meeting my kin and learning my mother tongue but it had to end abruptly as I had to resume my studies. Coming back in 2019, my mother decided to prolong our stay. I ended up joining St. Hanna’s Schools, Nairobi in grade 4 (CBC). The rise of Covid19, in 2020 did not lend me a chance to study Swahili, my motherland language. The global pandemic did not only interfere with my affection to physically explore my studies but to resort to online classes for three months.

The main reason why my family had resorted to settle back in Kenya was the fact that my mother had planned to open a business. This gave me no option but to comply! A reaction of being slapped in the face and winning a lottery!

Although I was reluctant to settle, I was compelled to start afresh and learn Swahili. Even though the new curriculum of 8-4-4 was complex, I was persistent and managed to get 385 marks out of 500 with a 70% in Swahili.

After my KCPE results, I had to reexamine myself on how to approach Cambridge curriculum since I was a little bit slagging behind in terms of the syllabus. Brook Hurst International has given me an opportunity to explore the new curriculum. My experience has taught me not to give up and that hard work always pays.

A Tale To Tell

David looked up from the foot of the snowy Mount Markwin, his heart racing from the hike. The thought of him at the top of the mountain with a banana smile plastered across his face criss-crossed his mind like arrows in a battle field. He felt even more determined to reach the top.

More exhausted he became with every step he took. However, that did not make his mind shift from his goal. After what seemed like an eternity, the peak of the mountain seemed like a stone throw away. He heaved a sigh of relief which replaced the heavy breathing airing the vicinity.

David’s heart leaped with joy as he continued up the cliff-side. His excitement could not be contained. However, his joy almost led to the closing of the curtains of his life. While going up the steep slope of the mountain, he stepped a bit too hard on the wobbly rock below him.

Things took a turn for the worst when the rock collapsed. He gripped onto the rock above him, fearing for his dear life. Beads of sweat trickled down his face into his mouth leaving a salty taste. His face turned as red as a tomato in panic, for he did not know what to do. Could this be the end of David?

He suddenly felt a sharp pain in his abdomen as if a knife was being inserted in him, causing him to let go of the rock separating him from death. A single tear fell from his eye as he fell to his demise. However, it was as if lady luck was on his side when he felt soft earth beneath him. He had fallen on mossy ground.

His sad tears gradually shifted to tears of joy. He jumped up and down with glee but with caution for that was not the last chapter of his life. One wrong step and he would fall into the deep Pacific Ocean. He quickly picked his goggles which fell on the mossy ground and started his journey back home. It was surely a tale to tell.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Law Club Trip

This previous term has seen plenty of activity as some of our students have gotten used to the club activities. Our aspiring lawyers made the trip to the Kenya School of Law to get better insights on what it takes to join and also start a career.

The trip was a success as the students came back full of confidence and ready to take on this new venture into the term as they close off the year on a high.

We look forward to more trips to delve deeper into this activities.

Hiking at Ngong Hills

Third term is usually a short time to make the most memories. This one was no exception as our students got a chance to go hiking at Ngong Hills. Some still say its an easy task while others feel its a tad bit challenging.

The memories will surely live on as we go for holidays. We definitely cant wait to do this again in the coming academic year.

Fun Day at Two Rivers Mall

Our preparatory section has had the most fun so far, our young and energetic learners had the chance to go to Two Rivers Mall on various occassions.

They had the chance to try out the various activities on show at the facility, some were not even in a rush to leave.

We look forward to the future experiences in the coming academic year.

Customer Service Week

At Brookhurst we really appreciate our customers and this academic year we got some bit of help to appreciate our parents for trusting us with their kids and giving us a chance to transform their lives.

Our students came into action putting together the packages later issued to the parents. Our DIY Club really dug into this showing off their creativity and innovation of transforming regular flowers into lovely bundles and as well an interesting card with a touch of creativity.

The next one is coming soon, be sure to be amazed by our young creatives.

Outdoor Classroom

The British Curiculum is unmatched in terms of hands on experience and application. Our students in Year 11 had the opprotunity to experience agriculture where they got to learn a lot more on farm produce at Mt Zion Farm.

We are excited to experience more hands on teachings thank you to Mr Mathenge for the fun educational trip.

Boarding Section Aviation Prefect

Our two facilities: Heroes Tower and Wangari Mathai House are not just your usual boarding section. This is where the learners get to learn responsibility and independence.

We keep our learners engaged in the weekend with fun games. We will always take part in various tournaments for both boys and girls either away or here at the campus.

We are happy to welcome students from all around to join the BIS family in the boarding section.

A lot goes on for our boarders, maybe more than we can pen down. But here is a fraction to say the least.

Academically, boarding schools offer an immersive environment. With access to teachers beyond regular school hours, students engage deeply in their studies. This intensive focus often translates into academic excellence and a disciplined approach to learning.

At BIS, we give it a more homely feel as we offer various boarding arrangements.

Why did you join aviation?

I have had a passion for aviation but I never had the resources to pursue it. Brookhurst gave me the opportunity to embark on my journey.

Why do you want to become a pilot?

I love travelling and I’m interested in seeing the globe. Being a pilot gives me the ability to do that while going hand in hand with a stable career.

What did you expect?

I expected the journey to be much shorter and very straightforward but now I see that my journey towards becoming a pilot will be much longer and requires great commitment. Aviation in Brookhurst gives a direct syllabus with topical tests to see your strengths and weaknesses. Along with the mandatory ground school it also offers flying lessons at a fair price.

What values have you learnt?

So far aviation has taught me that you need to be responsible, hardworking and persistent. As the head of aviation I have learnt great leadership skills. As a leader one should be kind but firm. Most importantly teamwork! This is a huge aspect in aviation. “One pilot can’t fly a plane by himself.”

What skills have you acquired?

I started off by flying the Piper Cherokee 181 (PA-28) which is a light, low wing aircraft and now I am continuing with the Cessna 172 (C-172) which is a slightly heavier, high wing aircraft. At the moment I have 10+ hours and I’m set to do my solo in August.

Where do you see yourself headed?

I’m very interested in the school’s partnership with ‘Select Aviation’ in Canada as well as Fanshawe College in Canada. I also see myself going to St. Louis University in USA.
