International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

PROSPECTUS 2025

Opening Statement: Executive Principal Mr. George Mathenge

It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) to Brookhurst International Schools. This marks a significant milestone in our journey as a leading institution of learning and a reflection of our steadfast commitment to providing world-class education that empowers young people to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape.

At Brookhurst, we have always believed that education is more than the acquisition of knowledge; it is about nurturing the whole person — intellectually, emotionally, socially, and ethically. The IBDP embodies this philosophy. It is a programme that goes beyond traditional learning, challenging students to become critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and principled leaders who are not only prepared for academic excellence but also for meaningful lives of service and impact.

The IBDP curriculum is internationally recognized for its rigor and balance. It allows students to explore a wide range of subjects while also engaging deeply with areas of personal passion and strength. Through the Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) components, our students will develop the skills, resilience, and values needed to navigate the complexities of the 21st century with confidence and integrity.

Our decision to adopt the IBDP is not only about aligning ourselves with global standards, but also about staying true to our mission as a school. We are dedicated to producing graduates who are internationally minded, open to diverse perspectives, and equipped to take their place in an interconnected world. With the IBDP, our students will have pathways to leading universities worldwide, but more importantly, they will leave Brookhurst as independent learners, responsible citizens, and compassionate human beings.

This journey into the IBDP would not be possible without the unwavering support of our teachers, parents, and wider Brookhurst community. As we prepare our first cohort of IBDP learners, I am deeply grateful for the dedication and passion of our staff, who have embraced the challenge of becoming IB educators. Their commitment ensures that our students will be mentored and guided at the highest level of excellence.

I warmly invite our students and families to embrace this opportunity. The IB Diploma Programme is demanding, yes, but it is also profoundly rewarding. It is a journey of discovery, growth, and transformation — one that will open doors to opportunities across the globe and lay the foundation for lives of leadership and purpose.

Together, let us celebrate this new chapter in the Brookhurst story. The future is bright, and with the IBDP, it begins here.

3. Assessment in the IBDP

• Internal Assessments (IA): Projects, essays, experiments, or oral work graded by teachers and moderated externally.

• External Assessments (Exams): Final written examinations at the end of the two years, marked by external IB examiners.
