TTHE HE CCHAMPS HAMPS ARE BACK! ARE BACK!

Brookhurst International Schools has once again proven its academic prowess by dominating the recent World Scholar's Cup Nairobi Regional Competition. The school secured an impressive total of 8 trophies across both junior and senior divisions, marking its third consecutive year as the top-performing team.

The Kiserian campus senior team clinched five trophies, while the junior teams, led by Lavington campus, contributed four more to the school's success. This year's competition saw the largest participation ever from Nairobi teams, adding significance to Brookhurst International Schools’ achievement.

The World Scholar's Cup is known for its rigorous academic challenges, including debates, writing tasks, and scholar's challenges, all aimed at fostering critical thinking and international understanding among students.

Principal Mathenge, present at both award ceremonies, commended the students for their hard work and dedication. He emphasized the school's commitment to academic excellence and praised the students for their exceptional talent and resilience.

This victory marks the third time Brookhurst International School will progress to the global round, having represented in Dubai in 2022 and Doha in 2023. The team will now prepare to compete at the global round, further solidifying our reputation on the international stage.

Months of intensive preparation and late-night study sessions preceded the victory, demonstrating the students' determination to excel despite the challenges. As champions for the third consecutive year, Brookhurst International School continues to set the standard for academic excellence in Nairobi and beyond.

Congratulations are extended to the students, teachers, and staff of Brookhurst International School for their outstanding achievement, serving as an inspiration to aspiring scholars in the region. The scholars had a winner’s treat off campus at Stedmark Gardens to celebrate their big haul by taking part in various activities in the facility.

SAIMUN Mock Debates @ BIS Lavington

The Sub-Saharan International Model United is an international relations simulation for both high school and university all college students. it is a platform for them to learn about the current events global issues and diplomacy and to develop their leadership teamwork and communication skills

On the 9th of March Lavington campus was yet again privileged to host the mock debate session. Two of our students, Salehe Nyaribari and Faith Lugor led the teams as chairs as they Facilitated the debates and guided the delegates. the event was highly intellectually engaging the various discussions on the topics at hand.

U-15 BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM KEEPS GOING

It's with pride that we acknowledge the impressive efforts of our U-15 boys' basketball team, who reached the semifinals in a competitive IPPSA tournament held at Naisula School. Despite facing tough opponents, our young athletes demonstrated determination, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Their journey to the semifinals was marked by thrilling victories and hardfought matches, showcasing their talent and commitment to the game. Though they fell short of the semi-finals, their performance was a testament to their hard work and dedication on the field.

Swimming success at Brookhurst Lavington

The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) organized the National Swimming Championship 2024 at Machakos Academy with the primary aim of identifying a team that would represent the Kenyan Schools in the upcoming East Africa Schools Championships in August in Kampala, Uganda for the 2024 edition. The championship brought together talented young swimmers from various secondary and international schools across the region, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills and compete at a higher level.

In a display of dominance, the Nairobi County Swimming Team emerged as the champions of the

KSSSA National Swimming Championship 2024. Our swimmers contributing to the general success of the team and making it through to the East Africa Schools Championship.

The team, consisting of Amanda Mukoto and Saniya Omorro, who had qualified for the national competition posting some impressive times in their county competitions prior to the national competition. They were then taken to the national competition where they were really challenged and once again proved and showcased their talents and dedication to the sport by participating in various events among them: breast stroke, freestyle, butterfly and relay in the 25m,50m and 100m races.

After a vigorous day of races on 11th and 12th April 2024, it was finaly the crowning moment where they got an impressive haul of 7 medals in total Saniya clinching 4 and Amanda getting 3 this later came to showcase team Brookhurst’s unparalleled excellence in the girls’ category.

The official announcement of the team to represent the country was provided by KSSSA, as anticipation builds for the opportunity to compete on the international stage and showcase their talent against top swimmers from across the East African Region.

We are delighted to recognize the exceptional performance of our swimming team at the recent PIPPSA Invitational Swimming Gala. Despite facing strong competition, our talented swimmers displayed remarkable skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the event collecting a whooping 25 medals tally for the competition 17 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals. The competition was held at St Bakhita School in Sabaki, near Mlolongo.

Their journey in the pool was marked by impressive swims, personal bests, and a collective effort that showcased their commitment to excellence.

Making it to the competition is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport over the term. Some of the student had just started competing officially in the Gala while some have been bossing it all along. Pola in particular had the best tally of medals getting all gold medals tallying to 7 showcasing her commitment and dedication as she led the team to the exploits in the competition.

Another exhilarating weekend of athletics has left us buzzing with excitement and admiration for the incredible talent on display From incredible stamina to lightning-fast sprints, our teams showcased their prowess and left a lasting impression on everyone who witnessed their feats.

We're thrilled to announce that our teams secured an impressive haul of medals this weekend In total, our athletes brought home 12 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals, a testament to their hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

What's even more inspiring is the unity and camaraderie among our athletes Regardless of gender or event, our boys and girls’ teams stood shoulder to shoulder, supporting and cheering for each other every step of the way. It was truly heartwarming to witness the bond forged through a shared passion for athletics, with every member of our team contributing to our collective success

Cultural Day 2024: A day for art & expression

On April 5th our Lavington Campus had the honor of hosting different cultures represented in our campuses, we have woven the tapestry of humanity, each thread representing a unique culture, heritage, and story in our campus It is by honoring our differences we find strength in our shared humanity and community.

The students were excited to showcase the diversity on offer at the school and the wider world. The excitement was palpable as each country showcased their cultures and traditions. We are highly excited to do this again next year

Friday Sports Day Spectacular

Friday Fun Day Sports Spectacular was a whirlwind of excitement and camaraderie, with students representing vibrant colors - blue, purple, yellow, and green - as they showcased their athleticism and team spirit.

Juniors Sports Day Spectacular

Last day of school for our juniors saw the school come alive with the sound of cheering and laughter as students, parents, and teachers gathered for an unforgettable Junior Sports Day! From the starting line to the finish, it was a day filled with thrilling races, hilarious relays, and heartwarming moments and a special and memorable chicken run making it top of the list for the best of the day.

What made this year's event truly special was the enthusiastic participation of parents. Whether they were racing alongside our young athletes or cheering from the sidelines their presence added

But let's not forget our amazing teachers, who not only organized the event but also joined in on the fun! Dressed in athletic gear, they showcased their own skills and sportsmanship, proving that learning extends far beyond the classroom walls.

Giving Back: Charity Visit to Nyumba ya Tumaini

In a heartwarming display of compassion, our students recently visited Nyumba ya Tumaini in Rongai, spreading joy and kindness throughout the day. From chatting with the kids to playing a friendly match mostly by the boys, their gestures of love left a lasting impact on all involved

Amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, this experience served as a reminder of the power of giving back to our community. March: A Month of Academic Excursions

Brookhurst Lavington students spent the month of March conducting academic excursions to different national facilities Firstly, Brookhurst Lavington Preparatory School students had an incredible opportunity celebrating world wildlife day with a walk on the wild side at the Nairobi Safari Walk. They marveled at the enormous rhinos and hippos, graceful giraffes and playful monkeys reminding us of the diverse wildlife that shares our planet with us

Secondly, Brookhurst Lavington Year 8's can tell of an unforgettable experience they had exploring The National Museum on their Art trip It was a day of discovery where they not only explored the rich history and cultural heritage preserved there but also learned about the different artistic movements and styles.

Discovering Starch: A Year Five Biology Experiment

In our recent Year 5 biology session, students engaged in a hands-on experiment to explore the presence of starch in everyday foods Using iodine solution, they tested various food items and observed color changes indicating starch content.

Materials: Iodine solution, food samples (bread), small dishes, droppers.

Procedure: Students added iodine solution to food samples and noted color changes.

Observations: Foods containing starch turned dark blue/black upon contact with iodine.

Conclusion: This experiment provided students with practical insight into starch identification in foods, enhancing their understanding of biological concepts. Encourage further exploration of science at home to foster a lifelong love of learning.

Science Showpiece

On the 6th of March our students from year 7 all the way to year 13 showcased their prowess in science as they go to explore the vast wonders of the discipline.

Our year 10 students particularly wowed the audiences with their inventions or discoveries ranging from: making yoghurt, water powered wind mills to the automatic shower that switches off after a given period. Some students even brought out bacteria and tested their samples.

Certainly the pick of the bunch had to be the hydroponics experiment where our students showcased incredible resolve and mastery in the agricultural plane impressing not only the judges but our school director, Prof Ruth Waweru

Spirit Week Was FUN!

Spirit week is designed to bring a spark of joy and creativity at school. our students enjoyed a relaxing last week of the term as they participated as follows;

March Monday was the mismatch and crazy hair day, followed by Tuesday’s pajama and no backpack day and finally Wednesday’s favourite sports attire and gaming day. This brought out the students’ creativity and boosted their morale. Additionally, it brought a sense of pride and community to a school to see everyone wearing similar things for the same reason

Physical Education At Karura Forest

As per the British National Curriculum, the team taking Physical Education as one of their subjects had the opportunity to go for a rock-climbing assessment at Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha along with trips to Karura Forest for cycling and cross-country.

Reflecting on our recent expeditions, we're reminded of the sheer thrill and excitement that filled the air Scaling the rugged cliffs of Naivasha's iconic park and making laps at Karura was not just a physical challenge but a test of our student’s determination and teamwork.

As the students conquered each precipice, they pushed their limits, supported by the unwavering encouragement of their peers and teachers present. The breathtaking views from the summit and beautiful scenes at Karura served as a reminder of their collective achievement and the boundless beauty of our natural surroundings.

Together, the team made memories that will inspire them to reach new heights in the future as they prepare for their last papers in their final exams.

What an electrifying March weekend it was at St Nicholas School as our talented athletes took center stage on the basketball courts and football fields! The echoes of stunning layups, three-pointers, strategic plays, and goal-scoring brilliance filled the air, creating an atmosphere of excitement and celebration.

Basketball Extravaganza: Under 17 Boys Showcase Skill and Finesse

The basketball courts were ablaze with the incredible skill and finesse displayed by our boys' teams in the Under 17 category. From dazzling layups to jaw-dropping threepointers, our athletes left spectators in awe of their prowess. The weekend showcased not only individual talent but also the exceptional teamwork that defines our basketball program.

It was a true testament to the dedication and hard work of our boys and their coaches.

Football Dominance: Girls Rule the Pitch in Under 15s and 17s Categories

Meanwhile, our girls from Kiserian Campus demonstrated unmatched prowess on the football fields. In both the Under 15 and 17s categories, our football stars dominated the pitch with strategic plays and goal-scoring brilliance. The determination and teamwork displayed by our girls were nothing short of inspiring, leaving an indelible mark on the weekend's sporting events.
