Joining a team or club is a fantastic way for students to have a break from their studies, while also learning new skills, making friends, practising teamwork, and developing leadership skills.
Brockton School is proud to offer over 60 extracurricular and athletic opportunities throughout the year. This booklet gives a brief idea of the types of activities on offer.
Please note, the clubs laid out in this booklet may not be available every year. Information and registration for offerings will be sent to families at the start of each term.

Kindergarten to Grade 2
Students in Art Club have the opportunity to learn and practice different artistic skills, and explore various mediums while creating their own unique art projects.

BOARD GAMES CLUB
Grades 1 to 5
Students in Games Club learn fun new board games, practice old ones, work together on cooperative games with their peers from various grades. Games encourage teamwork, strategic thinking and sportsmanship. Whether it is Chess, Checkers, Connect 4, or a puzzle, this is a club you do not want to miss.
FRENCH CLUB
Grades 1 to 3
Bienvenue au club français! This club encourages the development of French language skills through collaboration and fun. Students will be challenged to converse with their peers in French, while being further challenged through songs, games, and enrichment opportunities.
INTRAMURAL SPORTS
Grades 3 to 5
The Brockton Community Action Team for School Spirit (CAT-SS) student leaders host his lunchtime club, offering intramural activities once a week. Sessions cycle through different activities, and students can come as often or as little as they like as they participate all in the name of house team points! Information will be communicated to students via school assemblies and homeroom teachers.
MINDFUL KIDS YOGA
Kindergarten to Grade 2
Students in Mindful Kids Yoga will learn yoga poses, meditation techniques, and create mindful crafts, while meaningfully connecting with the community. Taught by a professional yoga teacher, this is a great introduction to the practice.

CLIMBING
Grades 4 to 12
Climbing is a popular activity that allows students to develop their climbing skills. The program incorporates lessons and provides students the skills they need to safely pursue this adventure sport. While climbing, students learn new movement and motor skill patterns and develop creative strategies to find their own path to the top. When students are not climbing, they will be supporting their peers.

JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER
Grades 3 to 5
The Boys Soccer team is a fantastic opportunity for players to practice skills with their peers and work together as a team. The team competes against peer schools in friendly match days, which usually consist of multiple smaller 7-aside matches.
JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY
Grades 3 to 5
The Junior Cross Country team is a fabulous opportunity to race on some excellent local courses against athletes from peer schools. With practices set in beautiful Lynn Canyon, athletes train on local trails, alongside running enthusiast coaches. Athletes learn about the tactics of running and are supported to perform at their best on race days as they compete in various Independent Schools Elementary Association (ISEA) fun and friendly meets.

JUNIOR SCHOOL GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Grades 4 to 5
The Girls Volleyball team is an opportunity to improve fundamental volleyball skills and experience competition against peer schools. The team competes in the Independent Schools Elementary Association (ISEA) league, which focuses on friendly values and developing skills. Students follow a ‘tripleball’ format with their gameplay, which focuses on effective rallying.
MULTI SPORT CLINIC
Grades 3 to 5
Any level or experience is welcome! This excitement filled program focuses on FUN, physical literacy, and sport skill improvement through fun games and activities. Participants will move through a variety of sports such as basketball, soccer, tennis, football, hockey, volleyball, handball, pickleball, and more. Participants will be fully submerged in the world of sports and are bound to leave the day with a smile on their face, eager for the next day!
ROBOTICS
Grades 3 to 5
Discovers Robotics! This after-school robotics program offers a unique opportunity for students to engage with technology, develop critical skills, and contribute to meaningful projects aligned with the UN-Sustainable Development Goals. This program aims to enhance students’ problemsolving skills, creativity, and understanding of technology through hands-on activities.
SWIMMING
Grades 4 to 5
The Brockton Swim team is entered into multiple swim meets throughout year, which gives students an opportunity to compete against athletes from other schools. The team trains at Harry Jerome Recreation Centre as they receive excellent coaching to hone their technique and fitness in preparation for the meets.
Prior Experience: Athletes are required to be competent swimmers, with an emphasis on being comfortable in the water. Typically, we ask that athletes can comfortably swim 2 lengths and tread water for 1 minute.

Grades 1 to 3
Brockton has partnered with Ball Lab Basketball Academy to bring students a very exciting opportunity! Expert coaches from the Ball Lab Academy, including founder Bijan Jiany himself, deliver age appropriate basketball sessions for students to develop their skills and experience a fun introduction to basketball.
DRAMA CLUB
Grades 2 to 5
Students in Drama Club have the opportunity to express themselves creatively through various drama games, activities, role-play, and performing short scenes for each other. There may also be opportunity to perform for bigger audiences in assemblies!
FIELD TEAM SPORTS

Students in Field Team Sports have the opportunity to try out a range of age and developmentally appropriate team sports, including handball, flag football, tag games, and many more. This is a great opportunity to be active at the end of the day, develop skills, and experience some fun team sports!

Students also have the opportunity to compete at the Independent Schools Elementary Association (ISEA) Track & Field Championships in May as well as two open-entry championships at UBC and Minoru.

Brockton’s Junior Leadership team provides opportunities for students in Grades 4 and 5 to explore their leadership potential and develop the communication and thinking skills needed to take action in their community. Students learn to write newsletters, design posters, present in assemblies, make calls to organizations, and promote service, action, and school spirit.
LEADERSHIP LIAISONS
Grades 6 & 7
The Grade 6 & 7 Leadership Liaison group is designed to cultivate essential skills/attributes such as leadership, commitment, communication, professionalism, collaboration, inclusion, and ethical learning. These young leaders are encouraged to present themselves professionally, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with their peers to plan and support engaging and meaningful school events. In addition to their roles within the school, Leadership Liaisons connect with local community members, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and ethical engagement. These interactions provide students with opportunities to understand and address real-world issues, further developing their leadership and problem-solving skills.
COMMUNITY ACTION TEAMS
From Grade 7, students have the opportunity to join the Brockton’s Community Action Teams (CAT). These teams aim to develop student leadership by exploring passion and action through collaborative student-led initiatives. Each team focuses on a different pillar of communitiy action, and helps to organize events and opportunities for team members, the school community, and the broader community (local and global).

SENIOR SCHOOL
THE WORLD MUSIC PROGRAM
From Grade 7, students have the opportunity to join the Brockton World Music Program (WMP). This program focuses on building musical skills alongside life skills such as leadership, teamwork and creative thinking. Students in the WMP play the same instrument (the marimba), and no prior musical experience is needed to join.
JUNIOR SPECIALIZED ENSEMBLE (JSE)
Grades 7 & 8
The Junior Specialized Ensemble (JSE) is a great way for students to discover and build their musical skills and creativity in a collaborative environment. The JSE combines exploratory play with performance, and students have the opportunity to participate in various concerts and performances throughout the year. JSE practices take place each week on Wednesday mornings before school.
INTERMEDIATE SPECIALIZED ENSEMBLE (ISE)
Grades 9 & 10
The Intermediate Specialized Ensemble (ISE) gives students the opportunity to expand their technique and widen their knowledge of musical theory. The ISE combines exploratory play with performance, and students have the opportunity to participate in various concerts and performances throughout the year. ISE practices are scheduled during the academic day.
SENIOR SPECIALIZED ENSEMBLE (SSE)
Grades 11 & 12
The Senior Specialized Ensemble (SSE) is aN opportunity for students to further develop and refine their musical skills, develop practice strategies, and widen their musical literacy and knowledge. The SSE focuses on collaboration, with plenty of opportunity to participate in various concerts and performances throughout the year. The SSE is considered part of the curriculum, and students receive 4 BC credits upon completion. It is scheduled twice per week during the academic day.
SENIOR CHOIR
Grades 7 to 12
The Senior Choir provides Grades 7–12 students with an opportunity to develop their vocal techniques, enunciation, harmony singing, and expression. The repertoire includes a variety of genres, and is chosen based on student interests. In addition to honing live performance skills in advance of community events, students have the opportunity to co-create ideas for music videos, which are professionally recorded and produced.

The Chess Club provides a stimulating environment for students to provide critical thinking skills, strategic planning, and problem-solving abilities. Grades 6 to 12
This club welcomes all crafting enthusiasts to add crocheting to their repertoire. Whether students are first-timers or experts, all are welcome to join in to create beautiful projects, while connecting with peers.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH
Grades 8 to 12
The Duke of Edinburgh Program is an internationally recognised program where students build skills and confidence while setting and working towards goals in areas such as service, physical recreation and adventurous journeys. Dedicated participants are able to achieve internationally recognized awards at the bronze, silver, and gold levels.
DRAMA & DANCE
Grades 6 to 12
Students can explore their passion for theater and performing arts. This club is a small dose of Musical Theatre, and provides a welcoming environment

for those interested in acting, directing, stage management, and technical production. It is an excellent way for students to develop their acting skills, gain confidence, and express themselves creatively. It also provides valuable experience in teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving, all within a fun and supportive environment.
ETHICS BOWL DEBATE CLUB
Grades 6 to 12
Speak softly to win hearts and minds! Ethics Bowl is a debate club that mitigates bias. In this educational extracurricular activity, students engage in structured dialogue about the complex, current ethical issues. Unlike traditional debate clubs that often focus on winning arguments, Ethics Bowl emphasizes collaborative thinking, critical analysis, and the ability to understand and articulate multiple perspectives on dilemmas. In this club, students will seek impartial truths and learn to work together to find common ground - a much needed skill in today’s world. Ethics Bowl is a serious competition and the winners aren’t necessarily those who speak the loudest.
FILM CLUB
Grades 10 to 12
This club is designed to provide students a platform to watch films that will stir analysis, debates, and interesting conversations. Films are usually chosen during club time, watched at home, and discussed at the following meeting. The Film Club also hosts various events for the Junior and Senior School students, including Brockton’s Film Festival each spring.
FRENCH CONVERSATIONAL CLUB
Grades 6 to 12
The French Conversation Club is open to all senior school students who like to speak French. The club will offer a casual place for French Speakers of various skill levels (beginners, intermediate or native speakers) to practise the French language. Students will have the opportunity to collaboratively design activities and games to enhance their French language skills. The aim of this club is to support students in speaking French confidently.

Grades 6 to 12
This club is for Harry Potter enthusiasts, who want to expand their familiarity with the expanded Potterverse. Activities include various trivia board games and virtual games, fun discussions, and general Harry Potter loving glory. Whether you are a hufflepuff or a Slytherin, you won’t find a more magical club!

Grades 6 to 12
Homework Club is an after-school program designed to provide students with supportive environment to complete their homework and receive academic assistance (particularly those who may not have access to resources or help at home). This club will not only assist students in completing their homework and understanding academic concepts but also provide a quiet, structured space conducive to studying and learning. It will also help students develop effective study habits and organizational skills.

Math Empowerment & Peer Tutoring provides support and enrichment to students in math. It assists students in understanding and mastering mathematical concepts and skills, and helps students build confidence in their mathematical abilities through guided practice and support. In addition to teacher support and to foster a collaborative learning environment where students can learn from each other, all students are paired with peers from higher grades or those who demonstrated proficiency in mathematics in specific areas.

The Painting Club provides a nurturing environment for students to explore their creativity and express themselves through art. Guided by experienced instructors, students experiment with various painting techniques, mediums and styles to unleash their artistic potential.

The Grade POD Book Club is an exciting opportunity for book lovers and readers in Grades 6 & 7 to come together to read, discuss and explore both fiction and non-fiction books and movies (and enjoy hot chocolate on occasion)!
REACH FOR THE TOP
Grades 8 to 12
The Brockton Reach for the Top team participates in the Schoolreach program for high school students around the province. The Reach team represents Brockton against peer schools in a fast-paced academic/trivia challenge that tests both their knowledge and speed of recall. Students from Grades 8 to 12 participate in Junior and Senior teams in the BC league that occurs from November to April each school year.

Grades 6 to 12
The Science Club is dedicated to fostering a love for science and discovery among students. It offers members the opportunity to delve deeper into various scientific disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science, through interactive activities and experiments. Pending student interest, engagement in competitions may be explored.
SOGI CLUB
Grades 6 to 12
SOGI (pronounced so-jee) stands for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. Brockton’s SOGI Club is open to anyone, no matter what their sexual orientation or gender identity. The club supports creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for ALL students at Brockton, and helps organize initiatives such as International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, and annual Pride celebrations.
TABLE TOP GAMES
Grades 6 to 12
The TableTop Games Club creates a space for Brockton students to connect with each other, to engage creatively, and to pursue their hobbies. The club mostly focuses on three table top games: Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and Warhammer 40K. However, all games are welcome, as are all students - from seasoned players to curious beginners!

The Yearbook Committee allows students to expand their connections with the school community in a creative and collaborative environment. Students have the opportunity to connect with stakeholders, create page layouts, gather content, and develop themes for the yearbook.

Students on the Senior Cross Country Running team compete in the North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSSAA) league, as well as the Independent School Athletic Association (ISAA) Championships. Through these leagues, athletes gain valuable experience of competitive running and have the opportunity to proceed to the Provincial Championships.

Grades 6 to 12
The Brockton Senior Swim team is entered into multiple swim meets, giving students an opportunity to compete against athletes from other schools. Students grow the skills necessary for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly (optional), diving, and racing techniques. Training takes place at Harry Jerome Recreation Centre, where students receive excellent coaching to hone their technique and fitness in preparation for the meets.

This Bantam Boys Volleyball team is the first point of entry to our renowned boys volleyball program. No experience is necessary, but the eagerness to learn is essential as athletes develop the range of skills required to play volleyball. The team is entered into the Greater Vancouver Independent Schools Athletic Association (GVISSA) league, where they have the opportunity to compete against peer schools.
Senior Varsity - Grades 9 to 12
The Senior Boys Volleyball team is a fantastic opportunity to experience one of Brockton’s strongest teams as they compete in the North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSSAA) and Greater Vancouver Independent Schools Athletic Association (GVISSA) leagues, as well as other local tournaments. This team builds on a strong history of success and holds the potential to reach the Provincial Championships.

The Junior Girls Volleyball team is a growing program that provides an excellent opportunity during the fall season. Athletes will develop core skills and have the chance to competein the Greater Vancouver Independent Schools Athletic Association (GVISSA) league, as well as maches and tournaments against other peer schools. Grade 11 and 12 students participate in all practices and exhibition matches as the program looks to grow in the following year.

The Futsal club sees students building foundational skills in soccer/futsal, and focuses on fun gameplay, giving students the opportunity to socialize with friends.

The Grade 8-12 Senior Run Club is all about fun and personal achievement, and is a great personal challenge to take advantage of the world class surroundings Brockton is located in. Note that runners should be confident when running longer distances from between 4-6 km.

Grades 8 to 12
Grade 8-12 Badminton is a club that focuses on participation and developing core skills. This is a recreational lunchtime activity and provides a social setting for students to play with their peers.
GOLF
Grades 8 to 12
The Golf Club is a fun, participation based club, with coaching advice on technique given to students during sessions at the driving range. There may also be opportunities to play rounds of golf during the season, as well as to represent the school at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Championships.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Grades 6 - 12
The Brockton mountain biking program allows us to take advantage of our beautiful surroundings. The team competes in the North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSSAA) Mountain Biking League which sees students compete at different locations in Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast.
Prior Experience: To ensure that participants have an appropriate level of competence and skill to actively participate, student athletes may be required to demonstrate their ability by attempting obstacles with the support of and under the supervision of the coaches / chaperones.

Brockton has growing programs for boys and girls, and this club will feature master coaches as we focus on core skill development, play matches, and having fun as a group. Abilities will be appropriately managed between the ages as we create an inclusive environment for all. No prior volleyball experience necessary - just a willingness to learn!
TRACK & FIELD
POD - Grades 6 & 7
The Grade 6 & 7 Track & Field team is a fantastic environment for students to have fun and represent the school. Students have the opportunity to try out a range of running, throwing, and jumping events, as they look to find their favorite activities. The team competes at the Independent Schools Elementary Association (ISEA) Track & Field Championships, as well as open-entry championships at UBC and Minorou.
Senior - Grades 8 to 12
The Senior Track & Field team is Brockton’s largest and most-popular athletic team. It is a fantastic opportunity to represent the school, and try out a range of running, throwing, and jumping events. The team attends various track and field meets throughout the season and compete against peer schools.
