Purpose
The purpose of this Senior School Student Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement is to provide clear expectations of - and agreement to - the expectations of technology use as it relates to engagement in school and/or activities that may impact the school and/or community members. Students are expected to act in a safe, responsible, respectful, ethical, and legal manner that aligns with the school's mission, guiding principles, IB learner profile, and overall educational goals. Parents are expected to support students accordingly. This agreement is directly connected to and supplemented by (among other things): ● Senior School Technology Handbook ● Technology Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) ● Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy ● Community Code of Conduct Students and parents are expected to review and abide by these additional supporting documents.
Scope
This agreement applies to Brockton Senior School (grade 6-12) students. Parents/Guardians and Staff are expected to guide children in an age appropriate manner. This agreement applies to the use of: ● The school’s technology systems, networks, and resources, whether used on campus or remotely/ ● Personally owned devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, smart glasses, any device with cellular data, etc) used on school property or for school-related activities.
Acceptable Use
Students are expected to: ● Use technology in accordance with applicable laws, school policies, rules, and expectations including the tenets of the Brockton Community Code of Conduct. ● Use technology as per the directions and requests of school staff in particular learning/school experiences/environments. For example, there will be times when (age appropriate) a teacher may allow the use of a particular technology device for an activity, and times when students will be asked to refrain. ● Respect the privacy and rights of others. ● Access only accounts, files, and systems for which they have authorized permission.

● Communication using technology should be respectful and free of inappropriate language or content.
Unacceptable Use
Unacceptable uses of technology include, but are not limited to: ● Accessing or distributing harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content (e.g., hate speech, pornography, violence). ● Cyberbullying, harassment, or disrespectful communication. ● Using technology for cheating or academic dishonesty. ● Bypassing or attempting to bypass security measures (e.g., firewalls, web filters). ● Downloading or installing unauthorized software or applications. ● Damaging, disabling, or tampering with equipment, systems, or software. ● Impersonating others, misrepresenting themselves, or spreading false information. ● Photos or videos of others must not be taken, shared, or posted without explicit consent. ● Personal use of technology (including access of social media, gaming, or other) on school property should not interfere with learning.
Privacy and Monitoring
● The school reserves the right to monitor all use of its technology systems to ensure compliance with this agreement. ● Users should not expect privacy when using school-owned devices or accessing the school’s network. In accordance with BC PIPA and school safety protocols, Brockton School reserves the right to monitor and log all activity on the school network and school-owned devices. The school may inspect personal devices if there is reasonable suspicion of a violation of this agreement while the device is on school property. ● The school may inspect personal devices if they are suspected of violating this agreement while on school property or for school related activities.
Data Protection and Security
● Users should not share their passwords or use others' login credentials. ● Devices must be used in a secure manner; users should log out of accounts and lock devices when unattended. ● Any suspected data breaches, lost or stolen devices, or security incidents must be reported immediately to school administration. ● Students are fully responsible for their personal devices. Brockton School is not liable for any lost or damaged devices. It is essential that students take proper precautions to safeguard their devices.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can be helpful for learning — but only when used ethically. Students agree to: ● Work with teachers to understand the permitted use of AI for particular assignments and where appropriate, how to apply the appropriate citations. ● Not use AI to cheat, plagiarize, or avoid learning (e.g., writing entire essays or solving test questions). ● Think critically about the accuracy and bias of AI-generated content. ● Avoid entering any personal, private, or sensitive information into AI tools.
Consequences of Misuse
Violations of this agreement may result in: ● Loss of access to school technology and networks ● Disciplinary action under the school’s Code of Conduct ● Notification to parents or guardians ● Suspension or expulsion in severe cases ● Academic consequences ● Legal action or police involvement where required by law

Acknowledgement and Agreement By signing this agreement, I undertake to act in a moral and ethical manner that demonstrates respect for myself, and towards others. I agree to follow the principles that define responsible digital citizenship and accept that failing to follow these expectations will result in disciplinary action by the school which may include, but is not limited to, loss of the school’s technological resources.
