PICK YOUR OWN STRAWBERRIES IN QUEENSLAND
The perfect sweet treat for kids, strawberries are grown across two growing seasons in Queensland – one in winter (generally May to October) which encompasses growers from Brisbane through to Bundaberg, and a second in the cooler Stanthorpe region during summer (generally from October to May).
Many strawberry farms open to the public at select times to allow for “pick your own” berry days, creating a wonderful opportunity for families to get out in the sunshine to pick a healthy treat to take home for lunchboxes, smoothies, or even jam-making. Here are just some of the berry farms you can visit this year.
PYO dates are only a guide and can change depending on the weather and how many strawberries are left—always check with the farm before you go!

OUR TIPS FOR AN AMAZING STRAWBERRY PICKING EXPERIENCE
• Follow the instructions to ensure everyone has a safe and fun time.
• You cannot eat strawberries as you pick them (best to prep the kids in advance for this).
• Wear gumboots if possible or prepare for dirty shoes.
• Bring a bag for muddy gumboots and shoes (you will thank us for this one later!).
• Wear hats. Aside from sun safety, strawberry picking can be hard work!
• Arrive early for the best selection of untouched strawberries.
• Wash your strawberries before you eat them!
• Many (if not all) of the strawberry fields offer their own special strawberry icecream using freshly picked strawberries. Take an esky so you can take some home with you.

CABOOLTURE REGION ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTRE (CREEC) AND PLAYGROUND
It’s not very often you find a playground that ticks all the boxes—fully fenced, all-abilities equipment, suitable for both toddlers and older kids, with picnic facilities and toilets. But this northside Brisbane playground has it all. Best of all, there’s an on-site education centre to explore as well!
The all-abilities playground at CREEC in Burpengary was already pretty amazing, but in June 2024 it received a substantial upgrade which saw the addition of a large nature-themed play area.
A FULLY FENCED ALL-ABILITIES PLAYGROUND
While kids are usually happy with something to slide and swing on, adults tend to be pickier - looking for fenced safety and nearby toilets. The CREEC playground has all of this and more.
A nature-inspired sandstone and rubber soft fall mountain provides a range of embankment play opportunities, while the surrounding area features a macadamia nut hut, wooden agility course, hammock, water play, in-ground trampolines, and sand play.
Children of all abilities can play alongside one another, thanks to an accessible, dual flying fox, nest swing, accessible carousel, and a fort with ramps and handrails for safe access.
For additional play opportunities, a large, multi-level fort is available, boasting a toddler play hut, musical instruments, swings, gravity rider, and slides.
Concrete paths weave throughout the massive, fenced play area that’s ideal for prams, walking aids, scooters, and balance bikes.
LEARN ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT
Aside from the fabulous playground, CREEC offers so much more.
Outside the fenced play area you will find the Caboolture Region Environmental Education Centre. The centre is generally open Tuesday to Friday and showcases the local natural environment through hands-on exhibits and interactive displays. A relaxed and welcoming vibe awaits visitors, making it ideal for the whole family, with areas and activities for toddlers, primary school kids, and adults.
Children can cosy up with a book in the reading nook, try their hand at a puzzle, create masterpieces with art and craft, or explore nature at the many interactive displays dotted around the centre. There is even an ‘after dark’ room where you can discover animals that come alive at night.
The friendly volunteers of CREEC are always on hand to assist and impart their knowledge - whether it’s helping little ones understand a display, telling them a story about animals, or answering questions.
PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES AT CREEC
While visitors are free to visit and explore the Caboolture Region Environmental Education Centre at their leisure any time during its opening hours, there are several organised activities which take place regularly throughout the year, including:
• Guided walks
• Moreton Bay Library Park Tales
• Talks and workshops
• Activities/displays for special awareness days/ weeks
• Treasure hunts
• Exercise sessions, and more.
EXPLORE NATURE
Enjoy a gentle bushwalk past macadamia and eucalypt plantations and a 300-year-old Moreton Bay Fig tree. The path winds through forest and along the creek before looping back to the main area.
If you are really lucky, you may even spot a koala, echidna, or the elusive platypus that lives in the creek.

• Accessible toilets
• Environmental Education Centre (Tues - Fri)
• Walking trails
• BBQs and picnic tables
