Webfoot Painting gives us a big gift

As you can see from this group photo taken in front of the shelter on the morning of May 18, Webfoot is staffed with energetic, enthusiastic employees.

On the weekends of May 11 and 18, 2019, Webfoot Painters in Bend brought their annual community charity giveaway called Project Serious to the BrightSide Animal Center, armed with dozens of their employees volunteering to give the Shelter a facelift. All in all, Webfoot donated material costs of about $6,300 and 475 total work hours. Though Webfoot markets their annual project as a $25,000 giveaway, in reality, given the hours they spent on the project, its value actually came in at a little under $50,000. Through its close association with Webfoot Painting, Sherwin-Williams of Bend donated approximately $5,700 of highly durable, premium epoxy paint to the project. Thank you, Sherwin-Williams!

SAVE THE DATE! Volunteer Dinner and Annual Meeting Oct. 4 We’re replacing the Volunteer Picnic with an even better event, a nice dinner. In addition to delicious food and drink, our evening of recognition for volunteers will include our annual membership meeting.

This extraordinary contribution to BrightSide is just a continuation of the Project Serious tradition of giving established by Webfoot in Central Oregon ten years ago. Every year, Webfoot contributes its employees, equipment and expertise with painting, carpentry, decks and drywall repair to an individual in need or a non-profit organization. They began Project Serious by contributing 360 hours of work, valued at around $25,000, to the Ronald McDonald House in Bend. Other lucky non-profits to receive Webfoot’s beneficence have included the Cascade Youth and Family Center and the High Desert Museum. Last year, Webfoot stepped up to construct a deck, and then repair and paint, in red, white and blue no less, the home of a disabled veteran in Bend. The house shines in her

as a unbridled beacon topatriotism this female neighborhood as a beacon to thisneighborhood female veteran’s veteran’s unbridled patriotism and and Webfoot’s uncommon generosity.

Webfoot, it should be noted, contributes to the community in more ways than just Project Serious. They renew their giving spirit every year around Halloween when they engage the Bend community in pumpkin-carving at Carving For Kids, which is a fundraiser for Mountainstar Family Relief Nursery. To cultivate the giving spirit, Webfoot rewards their employees Webfoot, it should be noted, contributes for the volunteer work they do bytomatching their service hours with the community in more ways than just personal time off from work.

They renew their giving spirit every year around Halloween Bryan Fitzpartick is a drywall expert for Webfoot who began this project by making advance trips to the Shelter prepping for the two weekends, and thereafter served as the point person for Project Serious. Bryan has continued to help BrightSide with some of the problem areas he discovered while on the project.

As Bryan says in true Webfoot spirit: “We make a living by what we get.

We make a life by what we give.” (Winston Churchill). BrightSide is so grateful to you, Bryan, thank you!

Yappy Hour We’ve partnered with Gompers Distillery, Porter Brewery, Dry Fields Cider, and Bad Boys BBQ for an awesome summer event. Live music, silent auction, great food & drink. Aug. 10, 3-6 p.m. at 611 NE Jackpine in Redmond. $40 ticket benefits our Animal Relief Fund.

Red Dog Classic This fundraising golf outing is back! Sign up just yourself or a foursome. Aug. 22, 12 – 7 p.m., at Juniper Golf Course in Redmond. $125.

NaMEOWste Yoga with cats is fun for all ages and abilities.

Sundays Aug. 18 & Sept. 8 at 2 p.m., at the shelter ($10 suggested donation).

SAFE KENNELS PROJECT Our dogs need your help urgently We work hard to get all of the dogs that come through our doors into new, loving forever homes, and we successfully placed or returned to their owners 686 dogs last year.

Our outdoor day-use dog kennels, where dogs stay when they are not in a play group or being walked by a volunteer, have been in constant use for 15 years and are seriously deteriorated. They have been repaired repeatedly but have reached the end of their useful life and need to be replaced.

In addition to replacing the individual kennels with American Kennel Club-approved models, we need to pour a concrete slab for them to rest on to prevent “diggers” from tunneling under to escape, and to make kennels easier to scrub clean. And we need to build a roof over the kennels that are not already roofed to protect the dogs from the elements (we are currently using tarps). We have received bids from contractors that estimate the entire project cost at about $100,000. So far we’ve raised about $30,000.

Every gift of any amount helps us get to our goal of $100,000, and we are very grateful for whatever you may be able to give. Event spotlight: Dog Gone Run

The 7th annual Dog Gone Run – a 5K, 10K and 1-mile fun run/walk in Sam Johnson Park and the Dry Canyon in Redmond – raised about $5,700 for BrightSide programs and gave a whole lot of people and their dogs a fun morning, with great prizes and goodie bags, thanks to our sponsors. .

Petey and Molly are special dogs that share a truly special home with Brian and Arianna Lease.

Petey arrived at BrightSide in November 2016. He was adopted in February 2017, but returned just two days later. Then he sat for several more months. He was progressing, but he was struggling being at the shelter for so long. Then along came Brian and Arianna. Petey found his forever home with them in June of 2017, and has been thriving ever since.

“The moment we met Petey,” they said,”we already knew that what he really needed was a family with lots of love, quite a bit of humor, and patience.”

Shelby (now Molly) arrived at BrightSide a year after Petey in November 2017, along with her beloved brother, and BrightSide was thrilled to find them a home together in just a couple of weeks but their first adopters returned both of them in April 2018. Weeks turned into months. We decided to let a great family adopt her brother, and poor Molly was heartbroken.

But then came Brian and Arianna again.

“Molly came to us very weak and emotionally shut down, slowly dying from a broken heart.

Our family fell in love instantly. Molly now enjoys lying next to the fireplace, hiking in the snowy mountains, and cuddling with her big brother, Petey, who has taught her how to have fun and even fetch a ball! Petey and Molly joined their rescue caniner, Rocky, and rescue felines, Tino and Rosie.

Thank you, BrightSide, for changing our lives and theirs! We are extremely grateful for what your shelter does and for the lives you save every day. Your organization is a big part of Central Oregon and you have made it a safer place for all the helpless souls without voices.
