Fires Plague County Fire Destroys Shuckey Bean Home

Jim Neace, of Todd Hollow Road near Watts, KY. was not injured when several trees were thrown into the roof of his home on Monday evening after severe thunderstorms hit the area. Neighbors say they saw the trees being thrown into the home and sought immediate shelter. The dwelling was a total loss and county workers took the time to help Neace on Tuesday clear the trees from the area.

Litterbugs Dump On Cemetery

A weekend fire destroyed a garage, an apartment, a home and an outbuilding and officials are investigating the fire as arson.

South Fork Water Project Funding Approved It was announced this week that funding to construct the South Fork Water project has been approved. Water district officials say that a total of $1,217,000 was approved by three funding agencies including CDBG grant of $566,000, Rural Development funding in the amount of $244,000, and Coal Severance funding in the amount of $400,000. The Breathitt Water District will be meeting on the project at its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 4pm at the Fiscal Courtroom.

Citizens are upset over dumping of debris and garbage on a local cemetery and are seeking help to remedy the problem. Help may be on the way. The Arrowood Cemetery, located on Canoe hill, has been the location of illegal dumping for years by culprits who dump garbage on the hill near the 50 plus graves. Recently, illegal dumpers have unloaded construction debris on the hill, which has angered neighbors who look out for the cemetery. The debris, which consists of mobile home drywall, trim, and insulation, has been dumped in the area for the past two weeks and neighbors in the area say they have contacted local officials but haven’t received any help. Neighbors in the area say they have been watching closely for the past two weeks since the

Five people were injured when a fight broke out at Prince Hollow Apartments on Monday evening. Jackson Police Officers Shawn Howard and Brian Haddix along with KSP Trooper Holiday and personnel from Trans Star Ambulance Service responded to a report of a fight at the location at approximately 10:39PM. on Monday and found that five people were injured as a result of a fight, some of which were assaulted with a knife, baseball bat, and a claw hammer. Officials close to the investigation say that three of the five injured were transported to the Kentucky River Medical Center for treatment. No one suffered life threatening injuries as a result of the altercation. Sources also say that a club type weapon and a claw hammer were taken into evidence at the scene. Police did say it appears no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. Names of those injured were not available as of press time and due to privacy laws and pending investigation. Officers Howard and Haddix continue their investigation into the incident and plan to turn the case over to the Breathitt County Grand Jury.
