Smartphone Security Androids, iPhones, and other Smartphones make our lives easier. What could be better than having your phone, e-mail, internet, and of course those amazing Apps everywhere you go. As the popularity of this technology grows, so do the criminals. In June 2011, there were approximately 400 Smartphone apps that contained malware, spyware, or digital fraud. Statistics suggest an estimated 3 out of 10 or 500,000 – 1,000,000 cell phone users were infected by Smartphone malware programs the first 6 months in 2011. Below are some tips to keep your phone secure.
Unsecure auto break-ins still continue to make the police reports of the local newspaper. I need your help to spread the word and get your neighbors involved in community watch. The night of July 18th, an unsecured vehicle was entered on Holly Meadow Drive. A wallet with ID cards and credit cards were taken and used to make fraudulent purchases. Around July 28 an attempted break-in of a locked vehicle resulted in nothing being stolen as the thieves could not enter the vehicle and moved on to an easier target. The police were called; however, the suspects were not caught. Stop being an easy target and remind your neighbors to lock up and join community watch! It’s easy and saves you $. National Night Out was held on Tuesday August 2, 2011 at Jones Park. If you did not get a chance to make it out for the festivities, I gathered some information to share with you. Several pamphlets containing valuable information on the following were distributed:
As hunting season is around the corner, so are the scam artists taking advantage of your lack of land. Looking to lease some land to hunt on? Do your research before shelling out the big bucks. Scam artist are leasing land they don’t own. You meet them at the property, they show you the land, they go over a few rules, you sign the document and hand them your cash only to find out the person does not own the land and is nowhere to be found.

Password protect your Smartphone! Ensure you download firmware updates regularly. Download and regularly update a mobile security tool that scans apps for malware, spyware, and unsafe websites. Some suggested free mobile security products include: BitDefender, Lookout, and Kaspersky to name a few. Go to the app store to locate these items.
