Orientation Orientation- Approximately 1.5 h0urs Icebreaker- Remember My Name (25 minutes) The group will all sit in a circle., and the first group member will introduce himself/herself. He/She will do that by giving himself/herself a nickname that starts with the same letter as his/her name. Then he/she will explain why he/ she chose that name. Then, the group works their way around repeating each nickname with each name along the way. If they mess up, they must start back at the beginning. Example: Beautiful Brandie, I think I am beautiful, and I came to volunteer to make others feel beautiful too. Mission and History (15 minutes) Mission: Our mission is to provide exceptional education, expert service, and excellent quality to communities around Utah. We are here to create confidence, build relationships, and educate communities so that they may excel in the future. The first part of this section of the orientation will be going around the room and asking why the volunteers are here. What about the organization sparked interest? Then, the volunteer manager will be playing a 7 minute movie of how the organization came to be, it will include the project that lead to the program, events and overall successes, testimonials from the volunteers and clients, and the excitement of the organization having the new volunteers on board. Services and Goals (30 - 45 minutes) There will be two categories of services provided: Cut for Confidence Events and Cut for Confidence Classes. I will divide the group into two teams. The volunteer coordinator will layout cards that have all services and an extra category, goals, that we have on each card. The coordinator will write on the board Events | Education | Goals, and the teams will have to guess which card falls into which category and tape it to the wall. Once everyone has gone through the game, the coordinator will talk about each service and goal and fix cards if they fell into the same category, and the team with the most right will get a small give away. Volunteer Program (15 minutes) Meet the Executive Director and Founder of the organization. Both of these positions will be speaking about the volunteer program and how much it means to them that the volunteers are there. They will be going over some of the volunteer policies (the rest will be given to the volunteers in their own position training). Conclusion (10 mintues) The four leaders, two from events and two from education, will come to the orientation. These leaders will be introduced and volunteers will be assigned to a leader. The leaders will then take them to their trainings the same day as orientation. Training, depending on the position will go for one hour to four hours.
