Retirement 401(a) All eligible University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics employees are automatically enrolled in the 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan as of the date of hire into a benefits eligible position.
Flexible spending accounts are a pretax way to save on eligible medical and day care expenses. Starting July 1, 2013 the annual maximum for the Medical FSA is $2,500, and the annual maximum for a Dependent FSA is $5,000. Employees are required to re-enroll every year if they would like to participate in the plan. This is a “use it or lose it” plan. There is a grace period till September 15th, meaning an employee can use the money you contributed into the plan year until September 15th of the next plan year. Employees have until December 30th to actually submit the claim.

403(b) and 457(b) All University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics employees are eligible to participate in the 403(b) and/or 457(b) Supplemental Retirement Plan. If employees choose to contribute to the 403(b) plan, and are in a benefit eligible position the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics will match the amount that is contributed up to 3%. Note: In order to receive the full matching contribution under this plan, you must be vested. Employees will be 50% vested after four years of service and 100% vested after six years of service • Contributions are made through payroll deduction. • You choose how the funds are invested and can start, stop, or change contributions at any time. • The minimum amount you may contribute is $25 per month or $12.50 per paycheck, and the maximum annual contribution allowed for the 2013 year is $17,500 • Contributions can be made on a pre-tax or after-tax (Roth) basis or you may choose to elect to contribute on both, a pretax and after-tax basis. To withdraw funds out of the 403(b) employees must be 59 and 6 months. To withdraw funds out of the 457(b) employees must be 70 and 6 months.
