Boutique Care Homes commemorated its 5th anniversary with a series of heartfelt ceremonies. Each home celebrated this milestone by planting a cherry blossom tree, symbolising unity and the enduring spirit of the Boutique Care Homes community.
The ‘Okamé’ cherry trees, with carmine pink flowers and ovate leaves that turn orange and red in autumn, are a poignant symbol of strength, wisdom, and deep roots. These trees will bloom together every year, serving as a beautiful reminder of the togetherness and shared values that define Boutique Care Homes The choice of the ‘Okamé’ cherry tree, known for its resilience and stunning seasonal blooms, symbolises the commitment to creating a vibrant and supportive environment
Reflecting on the day, Founder & Managing Director, Ameet Kotecha remarked, “As we gather to commemorate Boutique Care Homes’ 5th Anniversary, I look back with immense pride on the journey of our residents and team. The Nuclear Test Medal holds profound significance, honouring the contributions of veterans and civilians who participated in the British nuclear testing program between 1952 and 1967 Resident, Mr Peter Powney-Jones' steadfast dedication during this pivotal period in history has left an indelible mark on our nation's safety, freedom, and way of life
John Gilmour, Chair of the Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, and Luton Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association, had the privilege of presenting the Nuclear Test Medal to Mr Powney-Jones The ceremony, held at Brampton Manor, was attended by members of Mr Powney-Jones' family who joined in celebrating this momentous occasion with afternoon tea
Speaking after the event, Samantha Gardiner, Peter’s niece remarked, “It was an honour and a delight for my family, to be a part of Peter’s medal presentation I know how proud of Peter his mum, Nelly; father, Harold; brother, John; and sister, Thérèse would have been if they could have seen Peter receive his medal ”

Proudly representing Boutique Care Homes, the vibrant dance ensemble, the 'Brampton Bollywood Trio,' took part in Care Sector's Got Talent 2024 after clinching a coveted spot in the live final
The Brampton Bollywood Trio, comprising of compassionate carers, Divya Sojan, Seena Saju, and Merlin M, discovered their success in making the finals at a surprise announcement at Brampton Manor and were overcome with joy and gratitude at advancing to the final
Akhi Goswami, Home Manager of Brampton Manor, expressed his elation and pride, stating, "I am overjoyed to see Divya, Seena, and Merlin's hard work and passion recognised on such a grand stage Their commitment to bringing joy and energy to our residents through their artistry is truly commendable "
I was born in 1937 in Prague My father was a tram driver, and my mother, a housewife We lived in a small house in Prague, and I started school during the Second World War I remember the war ending in May 1945 with a national uprising, after which the Communists took control.
After high school, I wanted to attend a sixth form college, but the Communists directed me to train as a miner. When this proved physically impossible, I was told to become a chimney sweep With my father's help, I managed to enrol in grammar school in 1952. There, I joined a jazz band as a drummer, which led to regular gigs at a Prague café, where I met my future wife, Mila We married during our university studies, and in 1966, Mila gave birth to our son, Robert
Following the 1968 invasion by Warsaw Pact forces, we immigrated to Cambridge where I had connections In 1972, I was appointed Assistant Director of Research in the Department of Medicine at Cambridge, focusing on advanced statistical methods for clinical diagnoses My research group expanded into the Medical Informatics Unit in 1985 I developed several novel statistical methods for classifying clinical images and became a member of Gonville & Caius College, serving as a University Proctor in 1977-1978
This sparked my interest in university administration, leading to my election to the University Council in 1979 and subsequent roles on its Financial Board. I chaired several committees, including the Joint Telecommunications Committee, overseeing the transition to a unified digital telephone system for all departments and colleges In 1982, I was elected Fellow of Wolfson College, serving in various roles including Vice-President
After political changes in Eastern Europe in 1989, I visited Prague again and in 1992, I became a Knight Commander of the Order of St. Wenceslas. Upon retiring from Cambridge in 2004, I taught at the Czech Economics University in Prague and became the Czech Government's Chief Scientific Adviser in 2012. After a government change in 2014, I resigned and returned to Cambridge, enjoying a quiet retirement with Mila
In 2022, Mila suffered a severe stroke, prompting us to move to Brampton Manor Sadly, Mila had an accident shortly after moving in and passed away two weeks later I now live alone at Brampton Manor, and am very happy here

All the staff are so kind and have endless energy Nothing is too much trouble, and they are all bursting with kindness We thought Mum would take a while to settle but she was happy and settled in no time at all, and we have absolutely no worries knowing she is in very capable and caring hands. Housekeeping does a fantastic job, the place is always gleaming and fresh and the food is excellent
Last month, Brampton Manor residents and their loved ones joined us for our summer menu tasting session - an opportunity to sample new food, and celebrate our fantastic kitchen team
Once again, the team have done themselves proud; the residents and visitors alike were engaged, enjoying the dishes, and happily providing some valuable feedback
On International Nurses Day, we paid a visit to our local nurses The residents of Brampton Manor presented a gift hamper, which was prepared by them to symbolise their profound gratitude for the District Nursing team’s tireless hard work every day.
A very BIG thank you to Denisa who came in recently and gave our residents some lovely facials and hand massages Denisa is a beautician and was asked by her company, Clarins, to undertake a day's volunteering; she chose to come and pamper our residents for the day Our residents really enjoyed the experience, and we look forward to welcoming Denisa again soon
In April, we celebrated Vaisakhi, a Sikh spring festival, here at Brampton Manor Our team enjoyed dressing in traditional attire, offering Indian snacks and traditional Indian tea Our residents enjoyed watching the performance and also got their dancing shoes on!
