Matias started with Qredits

Matias Jaurretche, the visionary behind Pizzeria El Punto, dreamed of opening his own restaurant but was halted by the need for financial backing. That's when Qredits stepped in, recommended by a friend who had experienced our straightforward financing process firsthand. Unlike traditional banks, Qredits' entrepreneurfocused approach resonated with Matias, convincing him that we were the ally he needed in his corner.

Having honed his skills in the culinary world, Matias initially toyed with the idea of a food truck but soon realized the golden opportunity a pizzeria presented, thanks to its lower operational costs. However, securing a prime location proved challenging until Qredits' advisors proposed an innovative solution: converting a container into his dream pizzeria. This advice was the key that unlocked his venture's potential.

Matias’ “Next Level” journey

Despite his culinary expertise, Matias was navigating uncharted business waters, a journey made smoother with Qredits' guidance.

“I have realized that for my business to continue to grow, I must further develop my entrepreneurial knowledge.”

By outsourcing marketing and focusing on his strengths, he laid the groundwork for success. However, recognizing the importance of a solid business foundation, Matias is now seeking to deepen his understanding of various business aspects to safeguard his venture's future.

With ambitions to expand his pizzeria and diversify the menu within the next five years, Matias credits Qredits as the catalyst for his entrepreneurial debut. His journey underscores the importance of accessible financing and the courage to pursue one's dreams. Matias encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to reach out to Qredits, highlighting the transformative impact of our support on his business.

Beyond his experience, Matias also has the following advice: "If you have an idea and you need financing, you can approach Qredits for help. Besides seeking financial support, be prepared to dedicate the hard work and energy needed to elevate your business."

Island Arts

Leaving behind a trail of art

There are many motives when it comes to making art. For instance people may make art to send a message, to leave a legacy behind, or to express themselves. In the case of 35-year-old self-taught local artist Dietrich Winklaar, it’s to express his appreciation to others, to show appreciation to the island as a whole, to show the link between the past & the present and as a way to preserve this link through his art.

While he was always drawing from a young age, Dietrich’s endeavors into the world of art really started to shape after he had moved to Curaçao from Bonaire at the age of 12. Missing his home & his family as well as having to adapt to a new routine on a new island, Dietrich decided to pick up a pencil and start drawing to distract himself. In the beginning he mainly drew portraits, and one of his earliest works was a portrait of Jennifer Lopez. This evolved into a habit of drawing portraits of people he was fascinated by or the people he knew in his personal life.

While Dietrich did have an affinity for drawing portraits, it was not something he did consistently. In the beginning it was more of a way to fill in the absence of home & family rather than something he did as a hobby. Over the years he would do art in phases, sometimes taking years off from it while he was occupied with other interests. However, when making his return, he would still possess his talent while also trying new techniques and working more outside of his comfort zone. Eventually his joy of making art is what made him pick it up as a hobby.

From the beginning, Dietrich would commit to drawing whatever had meaning to him and would scarcely settle for less than that. Even when asked for portraits by those around him, he only did it when he felt he would be putting 100% of himself in the art. Being an introvert, he would make art to express himself and show his love & appreciation to others in a way he could not so easily describe with words. Moments of emotional vulnerability, especially when it comes to his loved ones, is also one of Dietrich’s motivating factors and was often the reason why he would return to making

art after taking breaks.

After his grandfather passed away in 2015, he would return and make his first ever acrylic painting on a canvas and in 2020 one year after the passing of his uncle he honored all those who passed away in this side of the family by making his first ever portrait (using acrylic paint) of someone who bounded them all; his greatgrandmother. Aside from drawing portraits he would also make paintings centered around the island’s culture, flora, fauna and architecture. What stood out to me was the link he made with the love for his family and the love for his island. This has made him want to learn more about the island’s history and his family background. One such example of this is him taking a black-and-white photograph of his late grandfather and turning it into a colorized painting of him. He especially feels a bond towards Rincon because of his family history, according to stories told by other family members.

Dietrich has been getting more recognition and demand for his work, which pushes him to break past his shyness and willingness to work outside of his comfort zone. One of his first moments of recognition was when he gave Izaline Callister a portrait he made of herself, which ended up in the newspaper. Other stand-out moments for him were his participation in making the mural on the TCB building, a pop-up mural for Dia di Rincon in 2023, and most recently his art on clothing for Miss Teen Bonaire entrants Nicole Cardenas & Angeliz Gerder. Dietrich’s advice for future artists is to dare to try new things. As an introvert myself who knows how it feels to limit myself, I can definitely agree with his advice.
