We are a family bodega from La Rioja focused on preserving the varietal characteristics of our grapes to be able to transmit through them the typicity and essence of our land.

We make high quality wines extracting the most natural characteristics of the region from a balanced and self-regulating vineyard. Knowing how to enhance it’s qualities and employing minimal intervention techniques throughout the production process, combining traditional systems with new methods learnt though travels to different wine producing regions of the world.

We have the maximum respect for the ecosystem in order to obtain the best fruit following organic agricultural principles whenever possible.

Everything comes from our old vines located in Rioja Alta and Rioja Oriental where we work with native varieties which are most representative of Rioja: Tempranillo. Garnacha and Graciano for red and rose wines and Viura, Garnancha Blanca and Sauvignon Blanc for our white wines.

In the following pages we have compiled the medals and awards that our wines have won in recent years. They are awards for the quality and love that we have for our work.

of Bodegas Cornelio Dinastía

From the best land the best grapes are born, vines with many years of history that produce soft voluptuous wines of fine aromas and a full palate with vibrant colours and an intensity that allows the wine to show the nobility of its origin.

We emphasise human value and a commitment to our team based on family values.

1.

La Rioja in body and soul. Thanks to the microclimate of La Rioja and the unique terroirs we obtain wines with maximum expression and an incomparable quality.

2.

The wine is made on the vine. We cultivate the vineyard manually with the minimum intervention possible in the natural process and the growth cycle leading up to the harvest. Constant care is taken which gives us the best bunches, with the best grapes in order to make the best wine.

Everything is produced from our old vines located in Rioja Alta and Rioja Oriental where we work with the most representative native varieties, Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano for the red and rose wines, and Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Sauvignon Blanc for our white wines.

Our passion is to produce wines of a superior quality, drawing out the natural characteristics which our region can offer.

Excellence in the hands that work our vineyards, from the field to the winery. Artisanal work that has been learnt through the wisdom passed down from generation to generation.

Treatments using natural products as an alternative to manage diseases with the smallest environmental impact and risk to health.

We create vegetal cover crops that help to establish a natural microclimate to eliminate pests and diseases as well as regulating water stress in the vines.

Manual harvest with secateurs that allow us to select the best, healthiest and ripest bunches to produce wines of the highest quality. The harvest is only done at the optimal time when the days aren’t too hot, nor wet, without dew, with the first light of the day, quickly and carefully transporting the grapes to the winery.

The fruit stays whole until it reaches the selection table, where not only is unwanted vegetation removed but also anything else that could compromise the final quality.

The experimental sciences come together in perfect harmony to obtain a wine which is highly prized for its complex biochemical evolution, transforming the sugars into alcohol and drawing out aromas and colours from the grape skins. This wine is what someone with a lot of fortune defined as, something more than a mineral and a little less than a life.

From the passion for our work the Cornelio range is born, ‘The wine which is made on the vine’. In addition, our choice of organic viticulture and the purity of the variety has allowed us to make organic wines in a modern style with their own personality resulting in Vega Vella.

We have a deep respect for the land. Our love of the vineyard has been passed down through the generations. Our ancestors cultivated vines with care and tenacity. Vines that are now over 40 years old and, like mankind, with the passing of time become wiser thanks to experience. They give us the gift of high quality fruit, and as they know well, the value of great wines does not come form quantity.

We draw out the natural characteristics of the land from a balanced self-regulating vineyard, knowing how to enhance their qualities and employing minimal intervention techniques throughout the production process, combining traditional systems with new methods learnt though travels to different wine producing regions of the world.

We strongly believe in organic viticulture which is something that makes preventative care of our vineyards even more demanding. This is how we contribute to environmental sustainability while also offering a product that is healthier for the consumer. Our challenge is to get harvests of the same quality as with conventional agriculture, using less resources and totally avoiding chemical products.

Our philosophy of ‘Rioja in body and soul’ is centred around preserving the varietal characteristics of the grape and being able to show through it the seal of Rioja.

The fruit of our labour, in the vineyard as much as in the winery, are the wines that we make. Wines that continually receive both national and international recognition. Awards that are a reward for our daily effort. Medals that are thanks to the workers in our winery who look after and care for the grapes from the vine to the glass, turning wine into bottled poetry.

We highlight here some of them.

CORNELIO Cornelio is tradition, passion, excellence, sustainability and terroir. It is the search for the purity of Rioja. They are wines made using traditional techniques from our region. The carefully selected grapes coming from old gobelet trained vines located in different places in Rioja Alta, in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria. With these wines we strive to show the essence of our land.

Cornelio Imperial Autor – 8 Gold Medals From the best land, balanced in texture and structure, that sustains vines that are over 60 years old at it’s core, we select the best grapes to make Cornelio Imperial Autor. It’s eight gold medals are not a coincidence. They are the fruit of the accumulated knowledge in Rioja Alta of generations, of knowing how to listen to the vineyard, giving it what it asks for in order to get it’s best grapes year after year. It is with these grapes we make the wine.

Cornelio Seleccion Reserva Especial 2014 – Gran Oro Mundus Vini 2021 A highly valued medal, from the 4500 wines which were presented only 36 were awarded the ‘Gran Oro’, one of those being our Seleccion Reserva Especial. A wine of great expression and aromatic complexity.

Vega Vella The wines form the Vega Vella range have been made organically for more than 30 years in Rioja Oriental. It is a terroir with a lot of exposure to the sun, a dry climate between Mediterranean and Atlantic, which is ideal for organic viticulture.

With these wines we want to leave traditional Rioja and offer the consumer other facets of the DOCa Rioja. The name of this range ‘Vega Vella’ means many things. ‘Vega’ makes reference to the location of the vineyards. An arid land of poor soils, scarce rainfall and large temperature differences. ‘Vella’ on the one hand honours the Valencian that Jose Mari, the founder of the bodega, descends from, where ‘vella’ means ‘vieja’, ‘antigua’ or ‘old, ancient’ as are many of the vineyards. On the other hand it is reminiscent of the meaning ‘bella’ or ‘beautiful’, referring to the beauty of the landscapes of the vineyards as much as the wines.

Vega Vella Tinto Reserva 2014 - Gran Oro Mundus Vini 2021 The second ‘Gran Oro’ that we received in Mundus Vini was for our wine Vega Vella Tinto Reserva 2014, making us the only winery for the DOCa Rioja with such recognition. It’s grapes come from the oldest vineyards with a careful selection of only the best grapes. Built to last over time, searching for a powerful structure, polished by barrel ageing and left to discover its noble origin.

Vega Vella Graciano – Eight Golds Our famous and highly decorated Vega Vella Graciano is a surprising mono-varietal of the highest quality. In order to make it the healthiest bunches are selected from our oldest vineyards with the lowest production. Making a mono-varietal with Graciano is a challenge and a way to value the origin and the land. The result is a wine that perfectly expresses the characteristics of the land and climate where the wine was born. It is not made every year, only in those which have been of exceptional quality.
