Thank you to all our neighbors who participated in recent activities, especially the three charrettes at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Liberty Grace Church of God, and Heritage United Church of Christ. Your feedback is helping us guide our organization’s future. We appreciate the Morgan State University Architecture and Planning team and students for leading this process and delivering an excellent presentation at our August meeting. There presentation will serve as a guide for future projects we undertake.
Many great suggestions were made including improving lighting, traffic calming, safety patrols, senior care, gateway beautification, signage, sidewalk upgrades and a community coffee shop. The report provides us with a plan that we believe is exciting for the future of Ashburton.
Our veterans consistently demonstrate exceptional dedication by providing high-quality service for our neighborhood tree planting project, contributing significantly to the ongoing greening of Ashburton.
Our National Night Out Celebration showcased something for everyone, music, games, fish fry, surrounded by a delicious strawberry salad and baked beans using the talents of our community members. Hats off to the bakers in our community who brought homemade desserts
that went with our selections of ice cream. We were careful to include vegetarian offerings including ice cream and veggie dogs.
The next community meeting will be held at Baltimore City Community College/Nursing Building on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. This meeting includes general business and elections. The calendar year for the Ashburton Area Community Association starts in October, when annual dues are collected. Individuals who paid dues in August or at the Fish Fry will be credited beginning in October, and their dues are considered paid for the year.
We’re hosting an Octoberfest and invite you to join us for games, food, music, and fun. We’re also seeking homemade desserts for the event.
We are excited about our upcoming year. Christmas Party and presentations will take place in December along with our annual Christmas caroling tribute to the community. You don’t have to be a rock star to sing-along with us. Join the fun. Again, thank you for your participation. Let’s see how many neighbors can bring a new member that can be introduced at our next meeting. We get more done with your participation! See you October 21, 2025!
Sincerely,
Join Ashburton’s Tree-Planting Movement
Ashburton’s Urban Trees team had an awesome day planting trees for neighbors Saturday, September 25th – complete with white glove service from Ashburton Veterans and made possible by a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust grant.
Not sure if a tree is right for your yard? Here’s what neighbors are saying:
“Many thanks to you and to your team of retired Veterans who delivered my dogwood tree . . . I appreciate the ‘white glove treatment’ from each phase of its delivery and I sincerely thank each of you for your service to our country and to our Ashburton community.” ~ Elizabeth Allen, Barrington Road (pictured left)
“I was extremely fortunate to spend time with a group of thoughtful veterans. They were very pleasant and they gave pertinent guidance to ensure that my fig tree would grow. I highly recommend this program” ~ Kimberly Briscoe, Sequoia Avenue (pictured above)
There’s still time to get YOUR free tree and join the growing number of residents making a lasting impact on Ashburton. Visit ashburton1920.org to learn more.
Ashburton’s New Weather Station: Tracking Climate, Building Knowledge
Ashburton is now home to a new weather station, thanks to a partnership between Baltimore Social-Environmental Collaborative (BSEC) and Mt. Zion Church. Our Ashburton Veteran Team is working with BSEC scientists to study weather data – providing valuable insights about how neighborhoods across Baltimore are uniquely impacted by climate-related issues.
Martin Odom, pastor of Mt. Zion said, “Our church is excited about this unique partnership opportunity. To be able to work with so many scholars and our Ashburton neighbors to examine how air quality impacts community health is important work. We see it as an extension of our ministry to have a positive impact in our community and be a good neighbor.”
As part of this project, Ashburton is partnering with BSEC to host a community workshop to:
• Learn about weather stations and the type of data they collect.
• Understand how Baltimore experiences climate change, with a focus on research, data, and community empowerment.
What to explore the data yourself? Visit https://ambientweather.net/ and login using: guest.bsec@gmail; password: Weather0!). Once logged in, search for ‘BSEC Mt Zion Church’. The workshop is Sunday, October 26 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Church.

Strong communities start with you. Join our donor community, and help shape a more connected, vibrant neighborhood – one gift at a time.
Ashburton is an historic, close-knit neighborhood of 970 single family, duplex, and townhouse-style homes. Many residents have lived in the neighborhood 50+ years. Others came back as adults to live in the homes where they grew up and are raising their own families. This speaks to the high regard Ashburtonians have for this community and its history. Fifty-eight percent of the residents are between 25 and 65 years of age and 62 percent of the homes in Ashburton are owner-occupied.
As we continue to grow and serve the neighborhood through meaningful programs, events, and initiatives – including our quarterly newsletter and much-loved Home & Garden Tour – we are inviting individuals like you to be a vital part of our mission.
