Ashburton Summer Newsletter 2025

Page 1

Dear Ashburton Area Community Members;

As we head towards our summer months I wanted to remind you that we have quite a few activities in front of us.

Our first charrette(Community Strategic Planning Meeting), being led by Morgan State University students of the School of Architect and Planning on Tuesday, May 5, 2025, at M. Zion, 3050 Liberty Heights Avenue, please join us for the next two.

We have spread the meetings throughout the community for maximum participation. We also included a Saturday gathering on June 7, 2025, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Lunch will be served at the, Liberty Grace Church of God, 3400 Copley Road.

Our final planning meeting will take place at Heritage United Church of Christ, 3106 Liberty Heights Ave. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. This meeting will take place at a regularly scheduled Community meeting.

I am grateful for the many community members who participated, however we need more of you and your families to join us. Please bring your young people because their voices need to be included in our plans.

We are working together to plan the future of Ashburton in terms of keeping us safe, healthy, and engaged as productive members of our community.

The charrettes are a way of having your voice added to our plans for Ashburton’s future.

I am also proud of the work that many of our committee chairs are doing in terms of seeking resources, planting new trees and involving the community in upcoming activities.

You should have received doorhangers announcing the various activities in our community distributed by our Neighborhood Block Captains.

Please rev iew all the upcoming activities and see how you can contribute to their success.

I hope to see you on June 7th and June 17th.

Sincerely,

Saturday, May 17th, was a very special day for the Ashburton community. Our Veterans came out in full force to help plant trees and it was a total success.

We had a great time bonding and working as a collective group to get the job done. Here is a photo we took to show all of Baltimore that working as a cohesive team we can accomplish our mission successfully and on time.

I would like to thank Tori, Maurice and Catherine, our president and the members of our community for working together so we can achieve anything.

An Ambient Weather Station Comes to Ashburton

Ashburton is home to a new weather station, thanks to a partnership with Baltimore Social-Environmental Collaborative (BSEC) and Mt. Zion Church. A team of veterans in Ashburton will work with BSEC scientists to weather data and comparing it with other neighborhoods to draw attention to unique local climate issues that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Martin Odom, pastor of Mt. Zion said, “Our church is excited about this unique partnership opportunity. To be able to work with so many scholars and our Ashburton neighbors to examine how air quality impacts community health is important work. We see it as an extension of our ministry to have a positive impact in our community and be a good neighbor.”

Strong communities start with you. Join our donor community, and help shape a more connected, vibrant neighborhood – one gift at a time.

Ashburton is an historic, close-knit neighborhood of 970 single family, duplex, and townhouse-style homes. Many residents have lived in the neighborhood 50+ years. Others came back as adults to live in the homes where they grew up and are raising their own families. This speaks to the high regard Ashburtonians have for this community and its history. Fifty-eight percent of the residents are between 25 and 65 years of age and 62 percent of the homes in Ashburton are owner-occupied.

As we continue to grow and serve the neighborhood through meaningful programs, events, and initiatives – including our quarterly newsletter and much-loved Home & Garden Tour – we are inviting individuals like you to be a vital part of our mission.
