MirrorLok mirror extenders by Bill Wiegand #180584 SOMETIMES A PRODUCT SHOWS

up on your desk you didn’t know you needed. A creation from Al Jesse, the MirrorLok mirror extender was one such product. See more, less vibration, lock your stuff, the packaging said. The possibilities piqued my interest. Like most riders, I’m used to a third of my mirrors showing my jacket sleeves and if there was a vibrating mass in the remaining twothirds, I’d know there was something behind me. As for locking gear to my bike, well, that just may be the icing on the cake, as the fear of having my gear stolen while on the road means anything not bolted to me or my bike accompanies me when going into restaurants, gas stations or rest areas. Two thumbs up for MirrorLok marketing! Included in the package were two MirrorLok units along with all necessary hardware to secure the MirrorLoks to my motorcycle and my mirrors to the MirrorLoks. A key is also included to release the MirrorLok shackle. The MirrorLok body itself is a three-inch piece of machined aluminum with a counterbored hole on the top of the body at one end, and a larger counterbored hole drilled from the bottom of the MirrorLok body at the other end. Inside the larger counterbore are four o-rings surrounding a threaded insert which mates with and secures the mirrors to the unit. The locking shackle pivots from near the center of the body and when installation is complete will close into the head of the Allen bolt

holding the MirrorLok body to the motorcycle mirror mount. Installation is simple and straightforward, requiring only an 8mm Allen wrench and an open-end wrench to fit your mirror. Once you've removed your mirrors, place a spacer and o-ring over the mirror threads and thread the mirror to the threaded damper installed inside the MirrorLok and use an 8mm Allen wrench to tighten. Because the damper will be compressing the o-rings inside the bore, how tight this connection is will determine how tight the

friction fit is and how easily the mirrors move. At this point, do not worry about mirror angle as this will be adjusted later. Place the mounting bolt with lock washer into the other end of the MirrorLok and add one of the spacers below the unit to bring the MirrorLok above your control clusters. Position the MirrorLok unit so it is angled toward the ball end of your lever and tighten the bolt using the 8mm Allen

wrench. Repeat the procedure on the other side. Once both MirrorLoks are installed, adjust the mirrors as needed, being aware that your mirror stems will rotate, though stiffly, even though everything is snug. Lift and turn the locking shackle so that the end is positioned over the head of the 8mm Allen bolt. Push down the shackle and push in the lock button and the unit is now locked. Installation of the left and right MirrorLok along with mirror adjustment on my S 1000 XR took less than 30 minutes.
