ACADEMIC COURSES
• All Academic Courses will be held at Bishop Montgomery High School on Week 1: July 8 - 11, 2025 and Week 2: July 14-18, 2025 from 8:00AM - 2:45PM.
• A signed participant waiver and student/parent agreement are required for all students. Signed waivers/agreements are due on the first day of class.
• Bishop Montgomery reserves the right to cancel any course that does not meet the minimum enrollment of 10 students. If a course is cancelled, you will be contacted for a full refund or given the option to enroll in another course.
• Voluntary withdrawal prior to June 15, 2025 will receive a 50% refund. Courses are non-refundable after June 15.
Argument and Persuasion
Do you want to learn how to win any argument? Increase your speaking and presentation skills in this interactive course that incorporates speech and debate techniques. Through analyzing texts, debates, and media, students will explore how argumentation influences decision-making in personal, political, and social contexts. In this class we will explore high-profile trials and dissect arguments made throughout the trials to see which persuasive techniques are most effective. For the future lawyer or anyone who wants to take their public speaking skills to the next level!
Comedy Performance and Improv
Do you want to take an entertaining class where you laugh and make jokes? Do you want to take a class where you have fun and can meet other funny people? Well, you’re in luck! This amusing class teaches you different styles of comedy, including improv and sketch writing. You’ll learn to write your own comedy, perform it live, and have fun doing it. Each student will also participate in entertaining comedy games to help them get creative ideas. Comedy performance is a great way to gain confidence and meet new people - It also helps with social skills and public speaking skills. And if you sign up, you’ll get the chance to make some good jokes! No experience is required. Shy students are also welcome, because they will be encouraged to participate without going too far out of their comfort zone. We’ll help you build your confidence, meet new funny people, and have a good time doing it! Hope to see you there!

Comic Construction
Do you want to create the next Spiderman, Wonder Woman, or Naruto? By the end of this course YOU will be a comic creator! Students will lay the groundwork for a great comic by learning how to tell a story using only still pictures and words. They will then put their new skills to use, constructing their very own 5-page comic book! No drawing or writing experience is necessary. Just a big imagination and creativity. Get ready to be the next Stan Lee!
Cooking and Baking
Let’s get cooking! Learn simple recipes that you can make at home using simple ingredients. Impress your family and friends with shareable recipes that will be sure to make you the highlight of any social gathering. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and desserts will all be covered so that you have the perfect dish for any occasion. Move over Gordon Ramsey, there’s a new chef in town!

Music Production: School of Rock
Are you looking for a fun and informative class to take over the summer? Do you want to be creative and meet other creative people?
If so, this class is for you! Whether you are an aspiring musician, a seasoned pro, or have never played music before - you are welcome to join and participate. Students get the chance to write their own songs, which includes coming up with their own ideas, lyrics, and melody. They will work together with other students to perform these songs live. Beginners will learn the basics of functioning in a band, while experienced players will get to practice more advanced concepts. Students will be given the opportunity to give expression to their unique ideas and experience the process of taking something from a mere idea into a final product. If you want to make music, gain the confidence to perform it, and have fun doing it, consider signing up!
Photography and Graphic Design
Discover the art of taking amazing pictures and creating awesome posts. Whether you are a beginner taking pics on your phone or you are an avid photographer shooting on a DSLR, there are skills to learn that can make taking photos enjoyable and captivating. This course will teach you how to compose photographs, how to take photos of animals, people, places and objects, and how light affects those photos. Students will also learn how to edit their photos utilizing design programs including Photoshop to create graphic design layouts on Canva.
Sports Medicine:
Ever wonder what exactly the medical personnel on the sidelines and behind the scenes at sporting events do? Want to know more about treating the physical and emotional well-being of an athlete? Here’s your chance! This interactive and informative course is designed for students with an interest in athletic training and sports medicine. Engaging presentations filled with personal, first-hand experiences, combined with hands-on activities, will help students explore the fundamentals of athletic training including first aid, injury treatment and rehabilitation, sports psychology, kinesiology, and physiology.
Video Production
Lights, Camera, Action! Have you ever thought about making your own movie? Now you can! In this course students will take a hands-on approach to film making. By learning to use cameras, microphones, lights, and editing systems such as Adobe Premiere and iMovie, students will gain a first hand understanding of everything movie making. This course will allow for students to embrace each aspect of filmmaking- from pre-production to post- production, and will conclude the course with their very own original short film!

GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES
While our Jr. High Knights Academy is designed to provide a relaxed and comfortable learning environment, it is important to understand that the program is also designed to present a unique curriculum, foster learning, and support social growth. In order for the program and, more specifically, each of our academic classes and athletic camps to be successful and rewarding, certain student standards of conduct are expected.
When registering for Jr. High Knights Academy, both parents and students sign a contract as part of registration: “The Jr. High Knights Academy will be conducted according to the same standards and policies of conduct maintained by Bishop Montgomery High School for all students. The summer dress code will be strictly enforced. Students who violate the dress code will be sent to the school office and parents contacted to bring appropriate clothing before the student will be permitted to return to class. Serious or consistent infringement of conduct or dress code expectations will result in the student’s removal from the Jr. High Summer Academy.”
Dresscode
Students enrolled in academic classes must adhere to the BMHS’s Jr. High Knights Academy dress code. Students may wear shorts or pants (shorts must be mid-thigh or longer) and collared shirts or t-shirts (shirts permitted with age-appropriate graphics). Sleeveless, strapless, crop tops (no bare midriffs), and tank tops are not permitted. Shoes must be closed-toe. No sandals or Crocs permitted.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones must be turned off and stored in students’ backpacks while they are participating in Jr. High Knights Academy classes or athletic camps. (This includes the break times in between classes.) Students may use their cell phones ONLY in the area in front of the BMHS chapel, before or after their Jr. High Knights Academy classes and/or camps. Students who choose to use their phones during Jr. High Knights Academy classes and/or athletic camps will, first, receive a warning. The second infraction will result in the cell phone’s confiscation, and the phone will only be returned directly to the student’s parent(s).

If a student is absent or tardy, please notify the Jr. High Knight Academy office by sending an email to jhka@bmhs-la.org Questions?
GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES
Discipline
In the event that a students chooses not to adhere to classroom and Jr. High Knights Academy rules and conduct guidelines, the following steps will be taken:
1. First infraction - Student will receive a warning from the classroom teacher/camp coach.
2. Second infraction – Bishop Montgomery will contact parent(s) to discuss student’s choices and behavior.
3. Third infraction – Student will be removed from academic classroom or athletic camp and parent(s) will be contacted and asked to pick up student immediately. Student will not be permitted to return to Jr. High Knights Academy (academic classes or athletic camps) that same day. Refunds for academic class/athletic camp time missed will not be given.
4. Fourth infraction - Student will be asked to withdraw from the Jr. High Knights Academy program. Student will not be permitted to return to Jr. High Knights Academy (academic classes or athletic camps) for the remainder of the Jr. High Knights Academy program. Refunds for missed academic class/athletic camp will not be given.
