STATION 9: BMHS Summer School (optional)

Many incoming freshmen choose to take one or two summer school classes, allowing for greater flexibility in their future schedules. Common options include a 5-unit semester course such as Health or P.E. (or both for 10 units) or a 10-unit year-long course.

Students can register for summer school on Registration Day or by scanning the QR code below. The cost is $250 per 5-unit course and $500 per 10-unit course, with payment due at the time of registration. Attendance is crucial—students may not exceed three total absences for any academic course (5 or 10 units).

To support the transition to high school coursework, Bishop Montgom ery offers Introduction to High School English and Introduction to High School Algebra 1. These skill-building courses are highly recommended for students who scored below a 7.0 grade level on the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and will help prepare them for 9th-grade college prep Algebra 1 and English 1.

P.E. and Health are in high demand, and while Bishop Montgomery will do its best to accommodate preferred period selections, please understand that your first choice may not be available.

All summer academic classes for incoming freshmen will follow a hybrid format. Students will attend in-person classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with asynchronous assignments to complete on Mondays and Fridays. All students will complete in-person final exams.

We will offer a supervised study space on Mondays and Fridays during summer school (June 18–July 23) for students enrolled in in-person classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This provides a structured environment to complete asynchronous work. A small fee will apply for attendance.

Physical Education (5 units)

Introduction to High School English (5 units)

Introduction to High School Algebra 1 (5 units)

BISHOP MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL

STATION 10: BMHS Athletics and Summer Skills Classes (optional)

BMHS Athletic staff will be available to answer questions about Bishop athletics and our summer skills program.

Sports skills classes are designed to give our coaches and athletes summer instructional time. Thorough conditioning better prepares our athletes for competition at the high school level and reduces the risk of injury. In addition, these programs are an excellent opportunity for students to make new friends, meet coaches, try a new sport, and engage in a healthy, positive activity.

All athletic skills classes are scheduled after 12:45 pm when BMHS Summer School academic courses have concluded. Students who plan to participate in a BMHS sport that offers skills building during the summer are strongly encouraged to sign up for that sport’s summer program. While participation is not mandatory for playing on a BMHS sports team, it is highly encouraged as it provides the coach with an extended opportunity to assess student skills. Students who intend to play a fall sport should enroll in that sport’s summer skills class. Please note that sports skills classes do not count as P.E. credit. Students need to register and pay for each sport’s summer skills class in which they wish to be enrolled.

Please visit the Athletics page of the BMHS to view the summer skills schedule.

STATION 11: Academic Counselors

Athletics Skills Registration

Before proceeding to the Submit Course Request station (STATION 12), our Academic Counselors will review and approve your student’s requested courses.

The Academic Counselors are an excellent resource for questions about Bishop Montgomery and our various academic programs. If you are unsure of any course options / decisions, please ask one of them for more information before proceeding to STATION 12.

STATION 12: Submit Course Request

At this station, a Bishop Montgomery student or teacher supervisor will transfer the course request information to the student database.

STATION 13: Uniforms (purchasing on Registration Day is optional)

After completing the registration process, students and parents are welcome to peruse BMHS uniform options from Norman’s Uniforms. Uniform purchases are welcome, but not required at this time. Please note that students are expected to be in full uniform on the first day of classes, including summer school.

BISHOP MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL

Summer Skills Program:

ATHLETICS

Summer athletic skills classes are an excellent opportunity for incoming freshmen to acclimate to BMHS, meet other new student-athletes, and get to know our seasoned ones. Lifelong friendships are often sparked and fostered during a student’s first summer on campus.

Many of Bishop Montgomery’s sports offer summer skills opportunities. For information about each sport’s summer classes and dates, please see the schedule on the Athletics page of the BMHS website.

For all our sports, summer skills classes help coaches evaluate student-athletes and select their teams. Students who would like to participate in a sport are highly encouraged to join us during the summer. Per each program, special arrangements may be made to accommodate limited family vacations.

To participate in summer skills classes, student-athletes must submit the $175 participation fee for each sport and register for Athletic Clearance through www.athleticclearance.com. Step-by-step instructions for navigating the athleticclearance.com website are located on the next page.

• A platform for social activities among parents. A key indicator of an effective school is a high level of parental support and involvement in curricular and extra-curricular activities.

• Parents with a feeling of ownership and investment in their child’s education. This is our school and we want it to be the best school possible.

• Necessary assistance needed by the school, teachers, coaches, staff and students that would otherwise be an expense to Bishop Montgomery.

Bishop Montgomery requests all parents volunteer ten (10) hours of school involvement per semester on BMHS projects benefiting:

- Student Activities & Organizations

- Athletic Team Activities

- Campus Beautification

- Campus Offices: Main, Attendance, Development

- Classrooms
