COMMODORE’S CORNER: Dear Members, First, I want to thank my fellow Flag Officers (VC Doug Mroz & RC Brian Hitchings), the Executive Committee, all the hard working Board of Governor Chairs & Committees for focusing on Member experiences for the upcoming 2022 Season.

As noted in the December’s Commodore message; efforts to enhance the Club experience are focused on making the Club a welcoming place at all times. When Club Members log on to the website or walk-in, our mission is to ensure that the club is always ready to serve and is available for your use, whether for dinner, Adult Sailing, stopping by to take in the sunset, meet friends for drinks or come by boat for lunch. ✓ A new Awning downstairs along with new teak outdoor furniture to enjoy the bay views, regattas and sunsets have been purchased. ✓ The interior design was presented at the last Board Meeting , all new flooring will be installed in the beginning of April. o

The interior plans include new painting, fabrics, furniture, and lighting that will be phased in over time.

✓ We have hired a new Club Services Manager who we will introduce come April and will be at the Club on select days and evenings to welcome you and answer any questions or requests. ✓ We have expanded the cleaning of the Club to 6 days a week to ensure the club, bathrooms, etc. are ready & presentable at all times. ✓ The Dining Chair and Committee will be announcing some exciting changes for the 2022 season. ✓ The Club’s Website is undergoing a facelift, as you may have already noticed. o

Prospective Members can now apply online!!

Members will be able to register and pay for Saturday events, as well as make dinner reservations all on your phone or computer.

o

Each week during the Season the website will have all the latest information on events & activities.

As you can see all the volunteers have been very busy all winter to make 2022 an experience for all Members!!!

JUNIOR SAILING UPDATE Linda Mroz, Junior Sailing Chairperson

Trees are budding, daffodils are in bloom and Daylight Savings Time has arrived! Spring is here and it is time to look forward to another great summer at the yacht club. We have been very busy planning the Junior Sailing Program for this year and I am excited to say that all information pertaining to Junior Sailing can be found on our newly upgraded OCYC website.

This year we are offering an all day sailing program, previously known as the camp, which will meet Monday thru Friday from 9 – 3. Our more experienced sailors will have the opportunity to sign up for one or more classes in our racing program which will meet at the designated time on the designated day. I am pleased to say that the Minnows program will offer 2 sessions this summer, one in July and one in August.

Boat rentals and scholarships are available. Please see our website for more information.

Registration for all programs will open on our website April 1st and will remain open until May 15th. Parent orientation will be held on Saturday June 18th on the porch at the yacht Club. Please watch for notification of the time. Junior sailing will begin Monday June 20th.

Congratulations to OCYC Member Fred Meno Fred Meno is an OCYC member who competed in the 2022 Force 5 Midwinter Championship in Key Largo, Florida this February . He represented OCYC, finishing second in the 21 boat fleet.

Fred currently holds the class record of having won this championship 11 previous times.

Adult Laser and Sunfish Racing Ocean City Yacht Club offers fun and informal Adult Laser and Sunfish races during the summer months just off the OCYC dock. Races run every other Tuesday June - September. Races begin at (or close) to 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!

OCYC Sailors go Shooting “Pull, BANG”!!! Those are the sounds that you will hear when OCYC’s Sailors go shooting at the “Spring Salvo” seasonal kick-off. The opening event will be held at “Cedar Creek Sporting Clays” in Millville @9:00 AM, Sunday, May 22nd. Lunch and awards will follow at the Deauville Inn as we welcome in the new season.

OCYC’s sporting clay events have grown from 14 participants at the first event in the fall of 2020 to a high of 40 participants last November !

Events are open to novices and experienced shooters as well as both women and men. All are welcome and instructions are provided, which are very easy to follow.

Bay Sailing Series Mark your calendars for this season's bay races. The series will open on Monday, May 31st with a Skipper’s meeting at 9:30 am at the club followed by our traditional Memorial Day Race with a 1:00 pm start. This year we are encouraging our Junior Sailors to sign up and participate. We would love to see Laser’s and 420’s on the starting line!

During Friday Night Bay Races, we will be continuing with the popular “Sunset Celebration,” with a celebratory toast as the sun goes down. I think this may be a new tradition that is here to stay! With Covid restrictions lifting we hope to have Corn hole, Giant Jenga and other fun activities dockside for everyone to enjoy during the races.

We invite all to participate whether you are a Skipper, crew, dockside spectator or want to get involved with Race Committee. Come on out and be a part of our sailing community.

OCYC GOLF The 2022 OCYC Spring Golf Outing was held at “The Club At The Strand” in beautiful Naples Florida on February 6th.

It was a great day of golf followed by a delicious early dinner.

Thank you to all who attended and supported our annual golf outing. Special thank you to Leo and Debbie Sniger who sponsored us at the Strand again this year. Many thanks to Matt Vollmer for all the great pictures, also Eleanor Parker, Margy Sansone and Debbie Singer for all your work and support putting this outing together. See you all next year!!

SUMMER BOATYARD STORAGE STARTS MAY 15th!

Summer Boatyard Storage begins on May 15th - Fees are due BEFORE the start of the season.

There is an option to pay boatyard storage fees on the OCYC.org website, under "Club Services".

If you would like to pay by check, please mail a check to OCYC, 100 Bay Road, Ocean City, NJ 08226. Include “Winter Boatyard" in the memo section of your check.

Volunteers Needed - Membership Committee Volunteers are needed to make up an official Membership Committee, as outlined in the OCYC ByLaws. PCs and Members are needed to meet with applicants for membership (either in person at the club or virtually) to discuss applicants interest in the club, familiarize applicants with Club activities, answer any questions they may have, and give a tour of the club (if in person). A PC and at least one member would be present at these “interviews”. The time commitment would be 1-2 hours for each meeting with an applicant, and we hope to have enough volunteers so that each member would not be asked to do this more than once or twice during the calendar year. Training would be provided for members. This is a great opportunity for members (singles and couples of all ages) to share their enthusiasm for the Club as well as their experience as members, and to meet new friends.

OCYC House Rules General Swimming is prohibited from the club dock.

Pets are not permitted on club property.

The use of tobacco is permitted only in designated outdoor areas.

The use of marijuana is strictly prohibited on OCYC property.

Bicycles/mopeds must be parked in the rack on the north end of the boat yard.

The Bylaws and House Rules are on the OCYC Website

Bylaws booklets are available at the Club

Motor vehicles may not be parked on the club grounds or in the boat yard.

Authorized persons only are permitted to operate the hoist, sound system or HVAC equipment.

No change is permitted to club decor except by the House Committee.

Members of reciprocating yacht clubs are permitted use of the club for one week upon approval of a Flag Officer.

Posting of notices for business or charitable purposes is prohibited without the permission from the Board of Governors.

The required procedure for complaints regarding employees, members or operation of the club must be directed to a Flag Officer in writing.

Refer to By Laws, Article XII. Members are responsible for their own conduct and for the conduct of their children and their guests.

OCYC requires compliance with City of Ocean City Ordinance 87-17, Section 4-15, regarding noise after 10 p.m. through 8 a.m.

House Rules are enforced by the Flag Officers and the Board of Governors Hours Summer Hours: Sunday: 10 a.m. to end of scheduled activities. Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. to end of scheduled activities.

Saturday: 10 a.m. to end of scheduled activities. • Exceptions may be granted by the Flag Officers and Board of Governors Dining Members should use reservations@ocyc.org to make dinner reservations which will be confirmed by email.

For special club functions, contact the chairperson of the event for reservations.

No food may be brought to the club for consumption when the club steward provides food service.

Comments should be sent to the Dining Committee Chairperson.

Alcoholic Beverages The sale of alcoholic beverages is not permitted.

Possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages is permissible as authorized by the City of Ocean City Ordinance No. 84 -23, provided the affair is not open to the general public and to persons under the age of 21. Identification will be required for young adults .

Guests

Members must register and accompany guests for any club function or activity.

No guests, except those of single members, may attend any evening activity at the club more than once monthly. A Flag Officer may grant an exception.

Members have precedence over guests for any club event especially when attendance is limited.

Attire Wet bathing suits or wet clothing are not to be worn inside the club.

Smart casual to dressy attire is required for evening functions/dinners unless otherwise directed by the chairperson of the Entertainment Committee.

Boat Use and Boat Yard Club boats are to be used only by members/staff for club activities.

Sailboats may be stored in the boat yard as designated by the Boat Yard Chairperson.

Summer boat yard fees cover May 15 through November 14.

Winter boat yard fees cover from November 15 through May 14 and are for members’ sailboats only.

The summer boat yard is for sailboats actively used. For details and rates, contact the Boat Yard Chairperson.

The boat ramp is to be used for sailing activities. Any other use must be approved by a Flag Officer.

Overnight docking must be approved by a Flag Officer.

Junior Members Junior members under the age of 21 will not be admitted to adult functions unless accompanied by a parent.

Food and refreshments are restricted to the porch and patio unless accompanied by a parent.

Junior guests must be accompanied by a member and may attend events no more than twice a month.

Game Room Rules Use of the Game Room is restricted according to rules posted in the Game Room and on the Junior Activities bulletin board.

Membership List The name and address list of OCYC members is provided in the OCYC Directory for the convenience of the membership only.

This list may not be used for any business or charitable purpose without the permission of the Board of Governors.

Qualifications for Membership Membership applications are welcome with the recommendation by two voting memberships. For details contact the Membership Chairperson.
